6For the wicked, though, it's a different story—he doesn't give them the time of day,but champions the rights of their victims.

7He never takes his eyes off the righteous;he honors them lavishly, promotes them endlessly.

8E se estão presos em grilhões, amarrados com cordas de aflição,

8When things go badly,when affliction and suffering descend,

9Então lhes faz saber a obra deles, e as suas transgressões, porquanto prevaleceram nelas.

9God tells them where they've gone wrong,shows them how their pride has caused their trouble.

10Abre-lhes também os seus ouvidos, para sua disciplina, e ordena-lhes que se convertam da maldade.

10He forces them to heed his warning,tells them they must repent of their bad life.

11Se o ouvirem, e o servirem, acabarão seus dias em bem, e os seus anos em delícias.

11If they obey and serve him,they'll have a good, long life on easy street.

12Porém se não o ouvirem, à espada serão passados, e expirarão sem conhecimento.

12But if they disobey, they'll be cut down in their primeand never know the first thing about life.

13E os hipócritas de coração amontoam para si a ira; e amarrando-os ele, não clamam por socorro.

13Angry people without God pile grievance upon grievance,always blaming others for their troubles.

14A sua alma morre na mocidade, e a sua vida perece entre os impuros.

14Living it up in sexual excesses,virility wasted, they die young.

15Ao aflito livra da sua aflição, e na opressão se revela aos seus ouvidos.

15But those who learn from their suffering,God delivers from their suffering.

16Assim também te desviará da boca da angústia para um lugar espaçoso, em que não há aperto, e as iguarias da tua mesa serão cheias de gordura.

16"Oh, Job, don't you see how God's wooing youfrom the jaws of danger?How he's drawing you into wide-open places—inviting you to feast at a table laden with blessings?

17Mas tu estás cheio do juízo do ímpio; o juízo e a justiça te sustentam.

17And here you are laden with the guilt of the wicked,obsessed with putting the blame on God!

18Porquanto há furor, guarda-te de que não sejas atingido pelo castigo violento, pois nem com resgate algum te livrarias dele.

18Don't let your great riches mislead you;don't think you can bribe your way out of this.

19Estimaria ele tanto tuas riquezas? Não, nem ouro, nem todas as forças do poder.

19Did you plan to buy your way out of this?Not on your life!

20Não suspires pela noite, em que os povos sejam tomados do seu lugar.

20And don't think that night,when people sleep off their troubles,will bring you any relief.

21Guarda-te, e não declines para a iniqüidade; porquanto isso escolheste antes que a aflição.

21Above all, don't make things worse with more evil—that's what's behind your suffering as it is!

22Eis que Deus é excelso em seu poder; quem ensina como ele?

22"Do you have any idea how powerful God is?Have you ever heard of a teacher like him?

23Quem lhe prescreveu o seu caminho? Ou, quem lhe dirá: Tu cometeste maldade?

23Has anyone ever had to tell him what to do,or correct him, saying, 'You did that all wrong!'?

24Lembra-te de engrandecer a sua obra, que os homens contemplam.

24Remember, then, to praise his workmanship,which is so often celebrated in song.

25Todos os homens a vêem, e o homem a enxerga de longe.

25Everybody sees it;nobody is too far away to see it.

26Eis que Deus é grande, e nós não o compreendemos, e o número dos seus anos não se pode esquadrinhar.

31Porque por estas coisas julga os povos e lhes dá mantimento em abundância.

31These are the symbols of his sovereignty,his generosity, his loving care.

32Com as nuvens encobre a luz, e ordena não brilhar, interpondo a nuvem.

32He hurls arrows of light,taking sure and accurate aim.

33O que nos dá a entender o seu pensamento, como também ao gado, acerca do temporal que sobe.
