1Assim, deixando os aspectos elementares do ensino de Cristo, prossigamos para o aperfeiçoamento, não lançando de novo o alicerce do arrependimento de obras mortas e da fé em Deus,

1Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection — not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,

2o ensino sobre batismos, imposição de mãos, ressurreição dos mortos e juízo eterno.

2of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3Faremos isso, se Deus assim o permitir.

3This will we do, if God permits.

4Pois é impossível que aqueles que uma vez foram iluminados, experimentaram o dom celestial e se tornaram participantes do Espírito Santo,

4For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

5e experimentaram a boa palavra de Deus e os poderes do mundo vindouro,

5and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come,

6e caíram, sejam outra vez renovados para o arrependimento; visto que eles estão crucificando de novo o Filho de Deus e expondo-o à vergonha pública.

6and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.

7Pois a terra que absorve a chuva, que cai muitas vezes sobre ela, e produz planta útil para aqueles por quem é cultivada recebe a bênção da parte de Deus;

7For the land which has drunk the rain that comes often on it, and produces a crop suitable for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God;

8mas, se produz espinhos e ervas daninhas, é rejeitada e está perto da maldição. O seu destino é ser queimada.

8but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

9Mas acerca de vós, ó amados, ainda que falemos assim, estamos certos de coisas melhores e relativas à salvação.

9But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.

10Porque Deus não é injusto para se esquecer do vosso trabalho e do amor que mostrastes para com o seu nome, pois servistes os santos, e ainda os servis.

10For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.

11E desejamos que cada um de vós mostre o mesmo esforço dedicado até o fim, para a completa certeza da esperança,

11We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,

12para que não vos torneis indiferentes, mas sejais imitadores dos que herdam as promessas por meio da fé e da paciência.

12that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherited the promises.

13Quando Deus fez a promessa a Abraão, jurou por si mesmo, visto não ter outro maior por quem jurar,

13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,

14e disse: Por certo te abençoarei e te multiplicarei grandemente.

14saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”

15Assim, Abraão, tendo esperado com paciência, alcançou a promessa.

15Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

16Pois os homens juram por quem é maior que eles, e para eles o juramento para confirmação é o fim de toda disputa.

16For men indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

17Assim, Deus, querendo mostrar mais claramente aos herdeiros da promessa a imutabilidade de seu propósito, interveio com juramento,

17In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;
AS21
18para que nós, que nos refugiamos no acesso à esperança proposta, tenhamos grande ânimo por meio de duas coisas imutáveis, nas quais é impossível que Deus minta.

18that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.

19Essa esperança é para nós âncora da alma, segura e firme, que entra no lugar interior, além do véu,

19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil;

20onde Jesus entrou por nós, como precursor, tornando-se sumo sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.

20where as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
