1Y el hombre conoció a Eva, su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: He adquirido varón con la ayuda del SEÑOR.

1Adam slept with Eve his wife. She conceived and had Cain. She said, "I've gotten a man, with God's help!"

2Después dio a luz a su hermano Abel. Y Abel fue pastor de ovejas y Caín fue labrador de la tierra.

2Then she had another baby, Abel. Abel was a herdsman and Cain a farmer.

3Y aconteció que al transcurrir el tiempo, Caín trajo al SEÑOR una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra.

3Time passed. Cain brought an offering to God from the produce of his farm.

4También Abel, por su parte, trajo de los primogénitos de sus ovejas y de la grosura de los mismos. Y el SEÑOR miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda,

4Abel also brought an offering, but from the firstborn animals of his herd, choice cuts of meat. God liked Abel and his offering,

5pero a Caín y su ofrenda no miró con agrado. Y Caín se enojó mucho y su semblante se demudó.

5but Cain and his offering didn't get his approval. Cain lost his temper and went into a sulk.

6Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué estás enojado, y por qué se ha demudado tu semblante?

6God spoke to Cain: "Why this tantrum? Why the sulking?

7Si haces bien, ¿no serás aceptado? Y si no haces bien, el pecado yace a la puerta y te codicia, pero tú debes dominarlo.

7If you do well, won't you be accepted? And if you don't do well, sin is lying in wait for you, ready to pounce; it's out to get you, you've got to master it."

8Y Caín dijo a su hermano Abel: vayamos • al • campo •. Y aconteció que cuando estaban en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel y lo mató.

8Cain had words with his brother. They were out in the field; Cain came at Abel his brother and killed him.

9Entonces el SEÑOR dijo a Caín: ¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo acaso • guardián de mi hermano?

9God said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?"He said, "How should I know? Am I his babysitter?"

10Y El le • dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra.

10God said, "What have you done! The voice of your brother's blood is calling to me from the ground.

11Ahora pues, maldito eres de la tierra, que ha abierto su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano.

11From now on you'll get nothing but curses from this ground; you'll be driven from this ground that has opened its arms to receive the blood of your murdered brother.

12Cuando cultives el suelo, no te dará más su vigor; vagabundo y errante serás en la tierra.

12You'll farm this ground, but it will no longer give you its best. You'll be a homeless wanderer on Earth."

13Y Caín dijo al SEÑOR: Mi castigo es • demasiado grande para soportarlo.

13Cain said to God, "My punishment is too much. I can't take it!

14He aquí, me has arrojado hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé, y seré vagabundo y errante en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me halle me matará.

14You've thrown me off the land and I can never again face you. I'm a homeless wanderer on Earth and whoever finds me will kill me."

15Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo: No • será • así •; pues • cualquiera que mate a • Caín, siete veces sufrirá venganza. Y puso el SEÑOR una senal sobre Caín, para que cualquiera que • lo hallase no lo matara.

15God told him, "No. Anyone who kills Cain will pay for it seven times over." God put a mark on Cain to protect him so that no one who met him would kill him.

16Y salió Caín de la presencia del SEÑOR, y se estableció en la tierra de Nod, al oriente del Edén.

17Y conoció Caín a su mujer, y ella concibió y dio a luz a Enoc; y edificó una ciudad y la llamó Enoc, como el nombre de su hijo.

17Cain slept with his wife. She conceived and had Enoch. He then built a city and named it after his son, Enoch.

22Y Zila a su vez dio a luz a Tubal-caín, forjador de todo utensilio de bronce y de • hierro; y la hermana de Tubal-caín era • Naama.

22Zillah gave birth to Tubal-Cain, who worked at the forge making bronze and iron tools. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.

23Y Lamec dijo a sus mujeres: Ada y Zila, oíd mi voz; mujeres de Lamec, prestad oído a mis palabras, pues he dado muerte a un hombre por haberme herido, y a un muchacho por haberme pegado.

25Y conoció Adán otra vez a su mujer; y ella dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Set, porque, dijo • ella • : Dios me ha dado otro hijo en lugar de Abel, pues Caín lo mató.

25Adam slept with his wife again. She had a son whom she named Seth. She said, "God has given me another child in place of Abel whom Cain killed."

26A Set le nació también un hijo y le puso por nombre Enós. Por ese tiempo comenzaron los • hombres • a invocar el nombre del SEÑOR.
