MSG
1I saw—it took my breath away!—the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, One Hundred and Forty-four Thousand standing there with him, his Name and the Name of his Father inscribed on their foreheads.
AMP
1Then I looked, and this is what I saw: the Lamb stood on Mount Zion, and with Him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had His name and His Father's name inscribed on their foreheads .
MSG
2And I heard a voice out of Heaven, the sound like a cataract, like the crash of thunder. And then I heard music, harp music
AMP
2And I heard a voice from heaven, like the sound of great waters and like the rumbling of mighty thunder; and the voice that I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps.
MSG
3and the harpists singing a new song before the Throne and the Four Animals and the Elders. Only the Hundred and Forty-four Thousand could learn to sing the song. They were bought from earth,
AMP
3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one could learn the song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been purchased (ransomed, redeemed) from the earth.
MSG
4lived without compromise, virgin-fresh before God. Wherever the Lamb went, they followed. They were bought from humankind, firstfruits of the harvest for God and the Lamb.
AMP
4These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they are celibate. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased and redeemed from among men as the first fruits for God and the Lamb.
MSG
5Not a false word in their mouths. A perfect offering.
AMP
5No lie was found in their mouth, for they are blameless (spotless, untainted, beyond reproach).
MSG
6I saw another Angel soaring in Middle-Heaven. He had an Eternal Message to preach to all who were still on earth, every nation and tribe, every tongue and people.
AMP
6Then I saw another angel flying in midheaven, with an eternal gospel to preach to the inhabitants of the earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people;
MSG
7He preached in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory! His hour of judgment has come! Worship the Maker of Heaven and earth, salt sea and fresh water!"
AMP
7and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God , and give Him glory , because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who created the heaven and the earth, the sea and the springs of water."
MSG
8A second Angel followed, calling out, "Ruined, ruined, Great Babylon ruined! She made all the nations drunk on the wine of her whoring!"
AMP
8Then another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her immorality ."
MSG
9A third Angel followed, shouting, warning, "If anyone worships the Beast and its image and takes the mark on forehead or hand,
AMP
9Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "Whoever worships the beast and his image and receives the mark on his forehead or on his hand,
MSG
10that person will drink the wine of God's wrath, prepared unmixed in his chalice of anger, and suffer torment from fire and brimstone in the presence of Holy Angels, in the presence of the Lamb.
AMP
10he too will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, mixed undiluted into the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone (flaming sulfur) in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb (Christ).
MSG
11Smoke from their torment will rise age after age. No respite for those who worship the Beast and its image, who take the mark of its name."
AMP
11And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day and night—those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."
MSG
12Meanwhile, the saints stand passionately patient, keeping God's commands, staying faithful to Jesus.
AMP
12Here is the steadfast endurance of the saints (God's people), those who habitually keep God's commandments and their faith in Jesus.
MSG
13I heard a voice out of Heaven, "Write this: Blessed are those who die in the Master from now on; how blessed to die that way!" "Yes," says the Spirit, "and blessed rest from their hard, hard work. None of what they've done is wasted; God blesses them for it all in the end."
AMP
13Then I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, ' Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" "Yes, ," says the Spirit, "so that they may rest and have relief from their labors, for their deeds do follow them."
MSG
14I looked up, I caught my breath!—a white cloud and one like the Son of Man sitting on it. He wore a gold crown and held a sharp sickle.
AMP
14Again I looked, and this is what I saw: a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was One like the Son of Man, with a crown of gold on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.
MSG
15Another Angel came out of the Temple, shouting to the Cloud-Enthroned, "Swing your sickle and reap. It's harvest time. Earth's harvest is ripe for reaping."
AMP
15And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to Him who was sitting upon the cloud, "Put in Your sickle and reap , for the hour to reap has arrived, because the earth's harvest is fully ripened."
MSG
16The Cloud-Enthroned gave a mighty sweep of his sickle, began harvesting earth in a stroke.
AMP
16So He who was sitting on the cloud cast His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped (judged).
MSG
17Then another Angel came out of the Temple in Heaven. He also had a sharp sickle.
AMP
17Then another angel came out of the temple (sanctuary) in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle.
MSG
18Yet another Angel, the one in charge of tending the fire, came from the Altar. He thundered to the Angel who held the sharp sickle, "Swing your sharp sickle. Harvest earth's vineyard. The grapes are bursting with ripeness."
AMP
18And another angel came from the altar, the one who has power over fire; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, "Put in your sharp sickle and reap the clusters of grapes from the vine of the earth, because her grapes are ripe ."
MSG
19The Angel swung his sickle, harvested earth's vintage, and heaved it into the winepress, the giant winepress of God's wrath.
AMP
19So the angel swung his sickle to the earth and harvested the grapevine of the earth, and threw the grapes into the great wine press of the wrath and indignation of God .
MSG
20The winepress was outside the City. As the vintage was trodden, blood poured from the winepress as high as a horse's bridle, a river of blood for two hundred miles.
AMP
20And the grapes in the wine press were trampled and crushed outside the city, and blood poured from the wine press, reaching up to the horses' bridles, for a distance of sixteen hundred stadia.
