Ef 5Efésios
MSG
1Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right.
NLT
1Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.
MSG
2"Honor your father and mother" is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely,
NLT
2“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise:
MSG
3"so you will live well and have a long life."
NLT
3If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
MSG
4Fathers, don't exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.
NLT
4Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
MSG
5Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ.
NLT
5Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.
MSG
6Don't just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ's servants doing what God wants you to do.
NLT
6Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.
MSG
7And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you're really serving God.
NLT
7Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
MSG
8Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free.
NLT
8Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.
MSG
9Masters, it's the same with you. No abuse, please, and no threats. You and your servants are both under the same Master in heaven. He makes no distinction between you and them.
NLT
9Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.
MSG
10And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong.
NLT
10A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
MSG
11So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way.
NLT
11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
MSG
12This is no afternoon athletic contest that we'll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
NLT
12For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
MSG
13Be prepared. You're up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it's all over but the shouting you'll still be on your feet.
NLT
13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
MSG
14Truth, righteousness,
NLT
14Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
MSG
15peace,
NLT
15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
MSG
16faith,
NLT
16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
MSG
17and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's Word is an indispensable weapon.
NLT
17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
MSG
18In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
NLT
18Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
MSG
19And don't forget to pray for me. Pray that I'll know what to say and have the courage to say it at the right time, telling the mystery to one and all, the Message that I,
NLT
19And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.
MSG
20jailbird preacher that I am, am responsible for getting out.
NLT
20I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.
MSG
21Tychicus, my good friend here, will tell you what I'm doing and how things are going with me. He is certainly a dependable servant of the Master!
NLT
21To bring you up to date, Tychicus will give you a full report about what I am doing and how I am getting along. He is a beloved brother and faithful helper in the Lord’s work.
MSG
22I've sent him not only to tell you about us but to cheer you on in your faith.
NLT
22I have sent him to you for this very purpose — to let you know how we are doing and to encourage you.
MSG
23Good-bye, friends. Love mixed with faith be yours from God the Father and from the Master, Jesus Christ.
NLT
23Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters, and may God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you love with faithfulness.
MSG
24Pure grace and nothing but grace be with all who love our Master, Jesus Christ.
NLT
