Jo 5JoãoJo 7
MSG
1After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee (some call it Tiberias).
AMP
1After this, Jesus went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Sea of Tiberias).
MSG
2A huge crowd followed him, attracted by the miracles they had seen him do among the sick.
AMP
2A large crowd was following Him because they had seen the signs (attesting miracles) which He continually performed on those who were sick.
MSG
3When he got to the other side, he climbed a hill and sat down, surrounded by his disciples.
AMP
3And Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down there with His disciples.
MSG
4It was nearly time for the Feast of Passover, kept annually by the Jews.
AMP
4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was approaching.
MSG
5When Jesus looked out and saw that a large crowd had arrived, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy bread to feed these people?"
AMP
5Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming toward Him, and He said to Philip, "Where will we buy bread for these people to eat?"
MSG
6He said this to stretch Philip's faith. He already knew what he was going to do.
AMP
6But He said this to test Philip, because He knew what He was about to do.
MSG
7Philip answered, "Two hundred silver pieces wouldn't be enough to buy bread for each person to get a piece."
AMP
7Philip answered, "Two hundred denarii (200 days' wages) worth of bread is not enough for each one to receive even a little."
MSG
8One of the disciples—it was Andrew, brother to Simon Peter—said,
AMP
8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,
MSG
9"There's a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But that's a drop in the bucket for a crowd like this."
AMP
9"There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?"
MSG
10Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." There was a nice carpet of green grass in this place. They sat down, about five thousand of them.
AMP
10Jesus said, "Have the people sit down ." Now there was an abundance of grass, so the men sat down, about5,000 in number.
MSG
11Then Jesus took the bread and, having given thanks, gave it to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish. All ate as much as they wanted.
AMP
11Then Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to those who were seated; the same also with the fish, as much as they wanted.
MSG
12When the people had eaten their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the leftovers so nothing is wasted."
AMP
12When they had eaten enough, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the leftover pieces so that nothing will be lost."
MSG
13They went to work and filled twelve large baskets with leftovers from the five barley loaves.
AMP
13So they gathered them up, and they filled twelve large baskets with pieces from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
MSG
14The people realized that God was at work among them in what Jesus had just done. They said, "This is the Prophet for sure, God's Prophet right here in Galilee!"
AMP
14When the people saw the sign (attesting miracle) that He had done, they began saying, "This is without a doubt the promised Prophet who is to come into the world!"
MSG
15Jesus saw that in their enthusiasm, they were about to grab him and make him king, so he slipped off and went back up the mountain to be by himself.
AMP
15Then Jesus, knowing that they were going to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountainside by Himself.
MSG
16In the evening his disciples went down to the sea,
AMP
16When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
MSG
17got in the boat, and headed back across the water to Capernaum. It had grown quite dark and Jesus had not yet returned.
AMP
17and they got into a boat and started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had still not come to them.
MSG
18A huge wind blew up, churning the sea.
AMP
18The sea was getting rough and rising high because a strong wind was blowing.
MSG
19They were maybe three or four miles out when they saw Jesus walking on the sea, quite near the boat. They were scared senseless,
AMP
19Then, when they had rowed three or four miles , they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat; and they were frightened.
MSG
20but he reassured them, "It's me. It's all right. Don't be afraid."
AMP
20But Jesus said to them, "It is I (I Am); do not be afraid."
MSG
21So they took him on board. In no time they reached land—the exact spot they were headed to.
AMP
21Then they were willing to take Him on board the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land to which they were going.
MSG
22The next day the crowd that was left behind realized that there had been only one boat, and that Jesus had not gotten into it with his disciples. They had seen them go off without him.
AMP
22The next day the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea realized that there had been only one small boat there, and that Jesus had not boarded the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone.
MSG
23By now boats from Tiberias had pulled up near where they had eaten the bread blessed by the Master.
AMP
23other small boats from Tiberias had come in near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
MSG
24So when the crowd realized he was gone and wasn't coming back, they piled into the Tiberias boats and headed for Capernaum, looking for Jesus.
AMP
24So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they boarded the small boats themselves and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
MSG
25When they found him back across the sea, they said, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
AMP
25And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did You get here?"
MSG
26Jesus answered, "You've come looking for me not because you saw God in my actions but because I fed you, filled your stomachs—and for free.
AMP
26Jesus answered, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the signs (attesting miracles), but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
MSG
27"Don't waste your energy striving for perishable food like that. Work for the food that sticks with you, food that nourishes your lasting life, food the Son of Man provides. He and what he does are guaranteed by God the Father to last."
AMP
27Do not work for food that perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you; for God the Father has authorized Him and put His seal on Him."
MSG
28To that they said, "Well, what do we do then to get in on God's works?"
AMP
28Then they asked Him, "What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?"
MSG
29Jesus said, "Throw your lot in with the One that God has sent. That kind of a commitment gets you in on God's works."
AMP
29Jesus answered, "This is the work of God: that you believe in the One whom He has sent."
MSG
30They waffled: "Why don't you give us a clue about who you are, just a hint of what's going on? When we see what's up, we'll commit ourselves. Show us what you can do.
AMP
30So they said to Him, "What sign (attesting miracle) will You do that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do ?
MSG
31Moses fed our ancestors with bread in the desert. It says so in the Scriptures: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"
AMP
31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written , 'He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.'"
MSG
32Jesus responded, "The real significance of that Scripture is not that Moses gave you bread from heaven but that my Father is right now offering you bread from heaven, the real bread.
AMP
32Then Jesus said to them, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
MSG
33The Bread of God came down out of heaven and is giving life to the world."
AMP
33For the Bread of God is He who comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."
MSG
34They jumped at that: "Master, give us this bread, now and forever!"
AMP
34Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
MSG
35Jesus said, "I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever.
AMP
35Jesus replied to them, " I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty .
MSG
36I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don't really believe me.
AMP
36But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe.
MSG
37Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don't let go.
AMP
37All that My Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out .
MSG
38I came down from heaven not to follow my own whim but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me.
AMP
38For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.
MSG
39"This, in a nutshell, is that will: that everything handed over to me by the Father be completed—not a single detail missed—and at the wrap-up of time I have everything and everyone put together, upright and whole.
AMP
39This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but that I raise it up at the last day.
MSG
40This is what my Father wants: that anyone who sees the Son and trusts who he is and what he does and then aligns with him will enter real life, eternal life. My part is to put them on their feet alive and whole at the completion of time."
AMP
40For this is My Father's will and purpose, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day."
MSG
41At this, because he said, "I am the Bread that came down from heaven," the Jews started arguing over him:
AMP
41Now the Jews murmured and found fault with Him because He said, "I am the Bread that came down out of heaven."
MSG
42"Isn't this the son of Joseph? Don't we know his father? Don't we know his mother? How can he now say, 'I came down out of heaven' and expect anyone to believe him?"
AMP
42They kept saying, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, 'I have come down out of heaven'?"
MSG
43Jesus said, "Don't bicker among yourselves over me.
AMP
43So Jesus answered, "Stop murmuring among yourselves.
MSG
44You're not in charge here. The Father who sent me is in charge. He draws people to me—that's the only way you'll ever come. Only then do I do my work, putting people together, setting them on their feet, ready for the End.
AMP
44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him ; and I will raise him up on the last day.
MSG
45This is what the prophets meant when they wrote, 'And then they will all be personally taught by God.' Anyone who has spent any time at all listening to the Father, really listening and therefore learning, comes to me to be taught personally—to see it with his own eyes, hear it with his own ears, from me, since I have it firsthand from the Father.
AMP
45It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught of God.' Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father, comes to Me.
MSG
46No one has seen the Father except the One who has his Being alongside the Father—and you can see me.
AMP
46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.
MSG
47"I'm telling you the most solemn and sober truth now: Whoever believes in me has real life, eternal life.
AMP
47I assure you and most solemnly say to you, he who believes has eternal life .
MSG
48I am the Bread of Life.
AMP
48I am the Bread of Life .
MSG
49Your ancestors ate the manna bread in the desert and died.
AMP
49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
MSG
50But now here is Bread that truly comes down out of heaven. Anyone eating this Bread will not die, ever.
AMP
50This is the Bread that comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
MSG
51I am the Bread—living Bread!—who came down out of heaven. Anyone who eats this Bread will live—and forever! The Bread that I present to the world so that it can eat and live is myself, this flesh-and-blood self."
AMP
51I am the Living Bread that came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread , he will live forever. And the Bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh (body)."
MSG
52At this, the Jews started fighting among themselves: "How can this man serve up his flesh for a meal?"
AMP
52Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, "How can this man give us His flesh to eat?"
MSG
53But Jesus didn't give an inch. "Only insofar as you eat and drink flesh and blood, the flesh and blood of the Son of Man, do you have life within you.
AMP
53And Jesus said to them, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood , you do not have life in yourselves.
MSG
54The one who brings a hearty appetite to this eating and drinking has eternal life and will be fit and ready for the Final Day.
AMP
54The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life , and I will raise him up on the last day.
MSG
55My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
AMP
55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
MSG
56By eating my flesh and drinking my blood you enter into me and I into you.
AMP
56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.
MSG
57In the same way that the fully alive Father sent me here and I live because of him, so the one who makes a meal of me lives because of me.
AMP
57Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, even so the one who feeds on Me will also live because of Me.
MSG
58This is the Bread from heaven. Your ancestors ate bread and later died. Whoever eats this Bread will live always."
AMP
58This is the Bread which came down out of heaven. It is not like our fathers ate and they died; the one who eats this Bread will live forever."
MSG
59He said these things while teaching in the meeting place in Capernaum.
AMP
59He said these things in a synagogue while He was teaching in Capernaum.
MSG
60Many among his disciples heard this and said, "This is tough teaching, too tough to swallow."
AMP
60When many of His disciples heard this, they said, "This is a difficult and harsh and offensive statement. Who can listen to it?"
MSG
61Jesus sensed that his disciples were having a hard time with this and said, "Does this throw you completely?
AMP
61But Jesus, aware that His disciples were complaining about it, asked them, "Does this cause you to stumble and take offense?
MSG
62What would happen if you saw the Son of Man ascending to where he came from?
AMP
62What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
MSG
63The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and willpower don't make anything happen. Every word I've spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making.
AMP
63It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit . The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life .
MSG
64But some of you are resisting, refusing to have any part in this." (Jesus knew from the start that some weren't going to risk themselves with him. He knew also who would betray him.)
AMP
64But there are some of you who do not believe and have faith." For Jesus knew from the beginning who did not believe, and who would betray Him.
MSG
65He went on to say, "This is why I told you earlier that no one is capable of coming to me on his own. You get to me only as a gift from the Father."
AMP
65And He was saying, "This is the reason why I have told you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him by the Father."
MSG
66After this a lot of his disciples left. They no longer wanted to be associated with him.
AMP
66As a result of this many of His disciples abandoned Him, and no longer walked with Him.
MSG
67Then Jesus gave the Twelve their chance: "Do you also want to leave?"
AMP
67So Jesus said to the twelve , "You do not want to leave too, do you?"
MSG
68Peter replied, "Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life.
AMP
68Simon Peter answered, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life .
MSG
69We've already committed ourselves, confident that you are the Holy One of God."
AMP
69We have believed and confidently trusted, and we have come to know that You are the Holy One of God ."
MSG
70Jesus responded, "Haven't I handpicked you, the Twelve? Still, one of you is a devil!"
AMP
70Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve ? And yet one of you is a devil (ally of Satan)."
MSG
71He was referring to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. This man—one from the Twelve!—was even then getting ready to betray him.
AMP
71Now He was speaking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot; for he, one of the twelve , was about to betray Him.
