1At about the same time, the disciples came to Jesus asking, "Who gets the highest rank in God's kingdom?"

1En aquella hora los discípulos se acercaron a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Quién es el mayor en el reino de los cielos?°

2For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room,

2Y llamando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos,

3and said, "I'm telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you're not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in.

3y dijo: De cierto os digo: Si no fuerais transformados° y llegarais a ser como niños, de ningún modo entraréis en el reino de los cielos.°

4Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God's kingdom.

4Por tanto, cualquiera que se humilla como este niño, éste es el mayor en el reino de los cielos;

5What's more, when you receive the childlike on my account, it's the same as receiving me.

6"But if you give them a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't. You'd be better off dropped in the middle of the lake with a millstone around your neck.

6Pero cualquiera que haga tropezar a uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, mejor le sería que le colgaran al cuello una piedra de molino de asno,° y lo hundieran en lo profundo del mar.

7Doom to the world for giving these God-believing children a hard time! Hard times are inevitable, but you don't have to make it worse—and it's doomsday to you if you do.

8"If your hand or your foot gets in the way of God, chop it off and throw it away. You're better off maimed or lame and alive than the proud owners of two hands and two feet, godless in a furnace of eternal fire.

8Por tanto, si tu mano o tu pie te es ocasión de caer, córtalo y échalo de ti. Más te vale entrar en la vida manco o cojo, que teniendo dos manos o dos pies, ser echado en el fuego eterno.°

9And if your eye distracts you from God, pull it out and throw it away. You're better off one-eyed and alive than exercising your twenty-twenty vision from inside the fire of hell.

9Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de caer, sácalo y échalo de ti. Más te vale entrar tuerto en la vida, que teniendo dos ojos ser echado en el fuego del infierno.°

10"Watch that you don't treat a single one of these childlike believers arrogantly. You realize, don't you, that their personal angels are constantly in touch with my Father in heaven?

10Mirad que no menospreciéis a uno de estos pequeños, porque os digo que sus ángeles en los cielos ven siempre el rostro de mi Padre que está en los cielos.°

12"Look at it this way. If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn't he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one?

12¿Qué os parece? Si algún hombre tuviera cien ovejas y se extravía una de ellas, ¿no dejará acaso las noventa y nueve en las montañas e irá a buscar la extraviada?

13And if he finds it, doesn't he make far more over it than over the ninety-nine who stay put?

13Y si llega a encontrarla, de cierto os digo que se regocija más por ella que por las noventa y nueve que no estaban extraviadas.

14Your Father in heaven feels the same way. He doesn't want to lose even one of these simple believers.

14Así también, no es la voluntad ante vuestro Padre celestial que se pierda uno de estos pequeños.

15"If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him—work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you've made a friend.

15Por tanto, si tu hermano peca,° ve, repréndelo estando tú y él solos.° Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano;°

16If he won't listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again.

16pero si no escucha, toma contigo a uno o dos, para que por boca de dos o de tres testigos° quede firme toda palabra.

17If he still won't listen, tell the church. If he won't listen to the church, you'll have to start over from scratch, confront him with the need for repentance, and offer again God's forgiving love.

17Y si los desoye a ellos, dilo a la iglesia;° y si desoye a la iglesia, sea para ti como el gentil y el publicano.

18"Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this.

18De cierto os digo que todo cuanto prohibáis en la tierra habrá sido prohibido en el cielo, y todo cuanto permitáis en la tierra habrá sido permitido en el cielo.°

19When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action.

19Otra vez os digo, que si dos de vosotros se ponen de acuerdo° en la tierra acerca de cualquier cosa que pidan, les será hecha por mi Padre que está en los cielos.

20And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there."

20Porque donde están dos o tres congregados en mi nombre, allí estoy Yo en medio de ellos.

21At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, "Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?"

21Acercándose entonces Pedro, le dijo: Señor, ¿cuántas veces pecará mi hermano contra mí y lo perdonaré? ¿Hasta siete veces?

22Jesus replied, "Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times seven.

22Jesús le dice: No te digo hasta siete veces, sino hasta setenta veces siete.°

23"The kingdom of God is like a king who decided to square accounts with his servants.
BTX
23Por esto, el reino de los cielos es semejante a cierto rey que quiso arreglar cuentas con sus siervos.

24As he got under way, one servant was brought before him who had run up a debt of a hundred thousand dollars.

24Y cuando comenzó a arreglarlas, le fue presentado uno que debía diez mil talentos.°

25He couldn't pay up, so the king ordered the man, along with his wife, children, and goods, to be auctioned off at the slave market.

25Y no teniendo éste con qué pagar, el señor ordenó que fuera vendido junto con la esposa, los hijos y todo cuanto tenía,° para que fuera pagada la deuda.

26"The poor wretch threw himself at the king's feet and begged, 'Give me a chance and I'll pay it all back.'

26El siervo entonces, cayó postrado ante él, diciendo:° Ten paciencia° conmigo, y te pagaré todo.

27Touched by his plea, the king let him off, erasing the debt.

27Y movido a compasión, el señor de aquel siervo lo soltó y le perdonó la deuda.

28"The servant was no sooner out of the room when he came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him ten dollars. He seized him by the throat and demanded, 'Pay up. Now!'

28Pero al salir aquel siervo, halló a uno de sus consiervos que le debía cien denarios,° y agarrándolo, lo sofocaba, diciendo: ¡Si debes° algo, paga!

29"The poor wretch threw himself down and begged, 'Give me a chance and I'll pay it all back.'

29Su consiervo entonces, postrado° le rogaba diciendo: Ten paciencia conmigo, y te pagaré.°
MSG
30But he wouldn't do it. He had him arrested and put in jail until the debt was paid.

30Pero él no quiso, sino que fue y lo echó en la cárcel hasta que pagara lo debido.

31When the other servants saw this going on, they were outraged and brought a detailed report to the king.

31Viendo pues lo ocurrido, sus consiervos se entristecieron mucho, y fueron a referir a su señor todo lo sucedido.

32"The king summoned the man and said, 'You evil servant! I forgave your entire debt when you begged me for mercy.

32Su señor entonces, llamándolo, le dice: Siervo malvado, toda aquella deuda te perdoné, porque me rogaste.
MSG
33Shouldn't you be compelled to be merciful to your fellow servant who asked for mercy?'
BTX
33¿No debías tú también tener misericordia de tu consiervo, como yo tuve misericordia de ti?

34The king was furious and put the screws to the man until he paid back his entire debt.

34Y enfurecido, su señor lo entregó a los verdugos hasta que pagara todo lo que debía.°
MSG
35And that's exactly what my Father in heaven is going to do to each one of you who doesn't forgive unconditionally anyone who asks for mercy."

35Así también os hará mi Padre celestial si no perdonáis cada uno de corazón a su hermano.°
