1"God's kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and went out to greet the bridegroom.

1Então, o Reino dos céus será semelhante a dez virgens que, tomando as suas lâmpadas, saíram ao encontro do esposo.

2Five were silly and five were smart.

2E cinco delas eram prudentes, e cinco, loucas.

3The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil.

4The smart virgins took jars of oil to feed their lamps.

5The bridegroom didn't show up when they expected him, and they all fell asleep.

10"They did, but while they were out buying oil, the bridegroom arrived. When everyone who was there to greet him had gone into the wedding feast, the door was locked.

10E, tendo elas ido comprá-lo, chegou o esposo, e as que estavam preparadas entraram com ele para as bodas, e fechou-se a porta.

11"Much later, the other virgins, the silly ones, showed up and knocked on the door, saying, 'Master, we're here. Let us in.'

11E, depois, chegaram também as outras virgens, dizendo: Senhor, senhor, abre-nos a porta!

12"He answered, 'Do I know you? I don't think I know you.'

12E ele, respondendo, disse: Em verdade vos digo que vos não conheço.

13"So stay alert. You have no idea when he might arrive.

13Vigiai, pois, porque não sabeis o Dia nem a hora em que o Filho do Homem há de vir.

14"It's also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities.

14Porque isto é também como um homem que, partindo para fora da terra, chamou os seus servos, e entregou-lhes os seus bens,

15To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left.

21His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'

21E o seu senhor lhe disse: Bem está, servo bom e fiel. Sobre o pouco foste fiel, sobre muito te colocarei; entra no gozo do teu senhor.

22"The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master's investment.

22E, chegando também o que tinha recebido dois talentos, disse: Senhor, entregaste-me dois talentos; eis que com eles ganhei outros dois talentos.

23His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'

23Disse-lhe o seu senhor: Bem está, bom e fiel servo. Sobre o pouco foste fiel, sobre muito te colocarei; entra no gozo do teu senhor.

24"The servant given one thousand said, 'Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error.

24Mas, chegando também o que recebera um talento disse: Senhor, eu conhecia-te, que és um homem duro, que ceifas onde não semeaste e ajuntas onde não espalhaste;

25I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.'

25e, atemorizado, escondi na terra o teu talento; aqui tens o que é teu.

26"The master was furious. 'That's a terrible way to live! It's criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least?

26Respondendo, porém, o seu senhor, disse-lhe: Mau e negligente servo; sabes que ceifo onde não semeei e ajunto onde não espalhei;

27The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.

27devias, então, ter dado o meu dinheiro aos banqueiros, e, quando eu viesse, receberia o que é meu com os juros.

28" 'Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this "play-it-safe" who won't go out on a limb.

29Porque a qualquer que tiver será dado, e terá em abundância; mas ao que não tiver, até o que tem ser-lhe-á tirado.

30Throw him out into utter darkness.'

30Lançai, pois, o servo inútil nas trevas exteriores; ali, haverá pranto e ranger de dentes.

31"When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne.

31E, quando o Filho do Homem vier em sua glória, e todos os santos anjos, com ele, então, se assentará no trono da sua glória;

32Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats,

32e todas as nações serão reunidas diante dele, e apartará uns dos outros, como o pastor aparta dos bodes as ovelhas.

33putting sheep to his right and goats to his left.

33E porá as ovelhas à sua direita, mas os bodes à esquerda.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation.

34Então, dirá o Rei aos que estiverem à sua direita: Vinde, benditos de meu Pai, possuí por herança o Reino que vos está preparado desde a fundação do mundo;

35And here's why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room,

35porque tive fome, e destes-me de comer; tive sede, e destes-me de beber; era estrangeiro, e hospedastes-me;

36I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.'

37"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink?

37Então, os justos lhe responderão, dizendo: Senhor, quando te vimos com fome e te demos de comer? Ou com sede e te demos de beber?

38And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?'

38E, quando te vimos estrangeiro e te hospedamos? Ou nu e te vestimos?

39E, quando te vimos enfermo ou na prisão e fomos ver-te?

40Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.'

40E, respondendo o Rei, lhes dirá: Em verdade vos digo que, quando o fizestes a um destes meus pequeninos irmãos, a mim o fizestes.

41"Then he will turn to the 'goats,' the ones on his left, and say, 'Get out, worthless goats! You're good for nothing but the fires of hell.

41Então, dirá também aos que estiverem à sua esquerda: Apartai-vos de mim, malditos, para o fogo eterno, preparado para o diabo e seus anjos;

42And why? Because— I was hungry and you gave me no meal, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

42porque tive fome, e não me destes de comer; tive sede, e não me destes de beber;

43I was homeless and you gave me no bed, I was shivering and you gave me no clothes, Sick and in prison, and you never visited.'

43sendo estrangeiro, não me recolhestes; estando nu, não me vestistes; e estando enfermo e na prisão, não me visitastes.

44"Then those 'goats' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn't help?'

44Então, eles também lhe responderão, dizendo: Senhor, quando te vimos com fome, ou com sede, ou estrangeiro, ou nu, ou enfermo, ou na prisão e não te servimos?

45"He will answer them, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me—you failed to do it to me.'

45Então, lhes responderá, dizendo: Em verdade vos digo que, quando a um destes pequeninos o não fizestes, não o fizestes a mim.

46"Then those 'goats' will be herded to their eternal doom, but the 'sheep' to their eternal reward."

46E irão estes para o tormento eterno, mas os justos, para a vida eterna.
