1Ai da impura e rebelde cidade de Jerusalém, cidade corrompida!

1Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!

2No seu orgulho não dá sequer ouvidos à voz de Deus. Ninguém lhe pode dizer nada; recusa qualquer espécie de correção. Não confia no SENHOR; não procura o seu Deus.

2She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she does not draw near to her God.

3Os seus chefes são como leões, rugindo à procura das suas vítimas; tudo lhes serve na sua gula. Os juízes são semelhantes a lobos esfomeados ao cair da noite; ao amanhecer nem vestígios deixam das suas matanças.

3Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing till the morning.

4Quanto aos profetas, esses vivem só de mentiras; só pensam nos seus interesses pessoais. Os sacerdotes profanam o templo, desobedecendo à Lei de Deus.

4Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy; they do violence to the law.

5Mas o SENHOR, que é justo, está no meio da cidade e não comete iniquidade. Cada manhã a sua justiça se torna evidente, manifestando-a a toda a gente. Contudo, o perverso, esse não tem vergonha.

5The LORD within her is righteous; he does no injustice; every morning he shows forth his justice; each dawn he does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.

6“Exterminei muitas nações, deixando-as assoladas até ao limite das suas fronteiras; deixei as ruas num silêncio de ruínas; as cidades ficaram desertas, sem sobreviventes para contar como aquilo aconteceu.

6“I have cut off nations; their battlements are in ruins; I have laid waste their streets so that no one walks in them; their cities have been made desolate, without a man, without an inhabitant.

7Dizia para comigo: ‘Agora, com certeza que vão ouvir-me e prestar atenção aos meus avisos; dessa forma não terei necessidade de os ferir novamente.’ Mas não! Por muito que castigue, continuam nos seus maus caminhos, desde a madrugada até à noite, e desde a noite até à manhã seguinte.

7I said, ‘Surely you will fear me; you will accept correction. Then your dwelling would not be cut off according to all that I have appointed against you.’ But all the more they were eager to make all their deeds corrupt.

8Mas diz o SENHOR: esperem por mim! Está a chegar o tempo em que me levantarei e julgarei estas nações malignas. Já decidi juntar os reis da Terra e derramar sobre eles a minha indignação e todo o ardor da minha ira. Toda a Terra será consumida pelo fogo do meu zelo.

8“Therefore wait for me,” declares the LORD, “for the day when I rise up to seize the prey. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all my burning anger; for in the fire of my jealousy all the earth shall be consumed.

9Então darei lábios puros aos povos, para que todos invoquem o nome do SENHOR, para que sirvam com um mesmo espírito.

9“For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord.

10Os meus adoradores que estão dispersos para além dos rios de Cuche virão trazer-me as suas ofertas.

10From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering.

11Naquele dia, não se envergonharão de vós mesmos, por causa da vossa rebelião contra mim. Tirarei do vosso meio todos os que se exaltam na sua soberba. Não haverá mais orgulho ou altivez no meu santo monte.

11“On that day you shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me; for then I will remove from your midst your proudly exultant ones, and you shall no longer be haughty in my holy mountain.

12No meio de ti ficarão os pobres e os humildes; esses confiarão no nome do SENHOR.

12But I will leave in your midst a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the LORD,

13Não cometerão iniquidade, nem andarão no meio da mentira e do engano. Viverão sossegadamente, em paz, e deitar-se-ão em segurança; ninguém os aterrorizará.

13those who are left in Israel; they shall do no injustice and speak no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall graze and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.”

14Canta alegremente, ó filha de Sião! Rejubila, ó Israel! Regozija-te e exulta de todo o teu coração, ó filha de Jerusalém!

14Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

15O SENHOR afastará as mãos que deveriam exterminar-te e dispersará os exércitos dos teus inimigos. O SENHOR mesmo, o Rei de Israel, viverá no meio de ti! Os teus males acabarão, não terás mais receios!

15The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil.

16Naquele dia, dir-se-á a Jerusalém: Alegra-te, não tenhas medo, ó Sião! Não deixes as tuas mãos desanimarem!

16On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak.

17O SENHOR teu Deus veio para viver no meio de ti. Ele é um poderoso Salvador e far-te-á vencer; terá grande prazer em ti; amar-te-á e não mais te acusará. Ouço um alegre cântico que traduz a própria alegria que o Senhor sente em ti.”

17The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

18“Tornei a juntar os que lamentam a falta das festas solenes, os que se afastaram da vossa companhia, e fiz desaparecer a tua afronta.

18I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.

19Tratarei severamente todos os que te oprimiram, salvarei os aleijados, reunirei os que foram expulsos. Honrarei novamente os expatriados que foram desprezados e aviltados.

19Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth.

20Nesse tempo, recolher-vos-ei; reunir-vos-ei e vos darei um nome honroso, um nome prestigioso entre as nações da Terra, as quais vos louvarão, quando constatarem que tornei a dar-vos prosperidade!”, diz o SENHOR.

20At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the LORD.
