1ESTAS, pois, são as nações que o SENHOR deixou ficar, para por elas provar a Israel, a saber, a todos os que não sabiam de todas as guerras de Canaã.

1These are the nations that God left there, using them to test the Israelites who had no experience in the Canaanite wars.

2Tão-somente para que as gerações dos filhos de Israel delas soubessem (para lhes ensinar a guerra), pelo menos os que dantes não sabiam delas.

2He did it to train the descendants of Israel, the ones who had no battle experience, in the art of war.

8Então a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel, e ele os vendeu na mão de Cusã-Risataim, rei da Mesopotâmia; e os filhos de Israel serviram a Cusã-Risataim oito anos.

8God's hot anger blazed against Israel. He sold them off to Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim. The People of Israel were in servitude to Cushan-Rishathaim for eight years.

9E os filhos de Israel clamaram ao SENHOR, e o SENHOR levantou-lhes um libertador, que os libertou: Otniel, filho de Quenaz, irmão de Calebe, mais novo do que ele.

12Porém os filhos de Israel tornaram a fazer o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR; então o SENHOR fortaleceu a Eglom, rei dos moabitas, contra Israel; porquanto fizeram o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR.

12But the People of Israel went back to doing evil in God's sight. So God made Eglon king of Moab a power against Israel because they did evil in God's sight.

13E reuniu consigo os filhos de Amom e os amalequitas, e foi, e feriu a Israel, e tomaram a cidade das palmeiras.

13He recruited the Ammonites and Amalekites and went out and struck Israel. They took the City of Palms.

14E os filhos de Israel serviram a Eglom, rei dos moabitas, dezoito anos.

14The People of Israel were in servitude to Eglon fourteen years.

15Então os filhos de Israel clamaram ao SENHOR, e o SENHOR lhes levantou um libertador, a Eúde, filho de Gera, filho de Jemim, homem canhoto. E os filhos de Israel enviaram pela sua mão um presente a Eglom, rei dos moabitas.

15The People of Israel cried out to God and God raised up for them a savior, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjaminite. He was left-handed. The People of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon king of Moab.

16E Eúde fez para si uma espada de dois fios, do comprimento de um côvado; e cingiu-a por baixo das suas vestes, à sua coxa direita.

17E levou aquele presente a Eglom, rei dos moabitas; e era Eglom homem muito gordo.

17He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Eglon was grossly fat.

18E sucedeu que, acabando de entregar o presente, despediu a gente que o trouxera.

18After Ehud finished presenting the tribute, he went a little way with the men who had carried it.

19Porém ele mesmo voltou das imagens de escultura que estavam ao pé de Gilgal, e disse: Tenho uma palavra secreta para ti, ó rei. O qual disse: Cala-te. E todos os que lhe assistiam saíram de diante dele.

19But when he got as far as the stone images near Gilgal, he went back and said, "I have a private message for you, O king."The king told his servants, "Leave." They all left.

20E Eúde entrou numa sala de verão, que o rei tinha só para si, onde estava sentado, e disse: Tenho, para dizer-te, uma palavra de Deus. E levantou-se da cadeira.

20Ehud approached him—the king was now quite alone in his cool rooftop room—and said, "I have a word of God for you." Eglon stood up from his throne.

21Então Eúde estendeu a sua mão esquerda, e tirou a espada de sobre sua coxa direita, e lha cravou no ventre,

21Ehud reached with his left hand and took his sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king's big belly.

22De tal maneira que entrou até o cabo após a lâmina, e a gordura encerrou a lâmina (porque não tirou a espada do ventre); e saiu-lhe o excremento.

22Not only the blade but the hilt went in. The fat closed in over it so he couldn't pull it out.

23Então Eúde saiu ao pátio, e fechou as portas da sala e as trancou.

23Ehud slipped out by way of the porch and shut and locked the doors of the rooftop room behind him.

24E, saindo ele, vieram os servos do rei, e viram, e eis que as portas da sala estavam fechadas; e disseram: Sem dúvida está cobrindo seus pés na recâmara da sala de verão.

24Then he was gone.When the servants came, they saw with surprise that the doors to the rooftop room were locked. They said, "He's probably relieving himself in the restroom."

25E, esperando até se alarmarem, eis que ele não abria as portas da sala; então tomaram a chave, e abriram, e eis ali seu senhor estendido morto em terra.

25They waited. And then they worried—no one was coming out of those locked doors. Finally, they got a key and unlocked them. There was their master, fallen on the floor, dead!

26While they were standing around wondering what to do, Ehud was long gone. He got past the stone images and escaped to Seirah.

28He said, "Follow me, for God has given your enemies—yes, Moab!—to you." They went down after him and secured the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites. They let no one cross over.

29E naquele tempo feriram dos moabitas uns dez mil homens, todos corpulentos, e todos homens valorosos; e não escapou nenhum.

29At that time, they struck down about ten companies of Moabites, all of them well-fed and robust. Not one escaped.

30Assim foi subjugado Moabe naquele dia debaixo da mão de Israel; e a terra sossegou oitenta anos.

30That day Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel.The land was quiet for eighty years.

31Depois dele foi Sangar, filho de Anate, que feriu a seiscentos homens dos filisteus com uma aguilhada de bois; e também ele libertou a Israel.

31Shamgar son of Anath came after Ehud. Using a cattle prod, he killed six hundred Philistines single-handed. He too saved Israel.
