1E ACONTECEU que, concluindo Jesus estes discursos, saiu da Galiléia, e dirigiu-se aos confins da Judéia, além do Jordão;

1When Jesus had completed these teachings, he left Galilee and crossed the region of Judea on the other side of the Jordan.

2E seguiram-no grandes multidões, e curou-as ali.

2Great crowds followed him there, and he healed them.

3Então chegaram ao pé dele os fariseus, tentando-o, e dizendo-lhe: É lícito ao homem repudiar sua mulher por qualquer motivo?

3One day the Pharisees were badgering him: "Is it legal for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"

4Ele, porém, respondendo, disse-lhes: Não tendes lido que aquele que os fez no princípio macho e fêmea os fez,

4He answered, "Haven't you read in your Bible that the Creator originally made man and woman for each other, male and female?

5E disse: Portanto, deixará o homem pai e mãe, e se unirá a sua mulher, e serão dois numa só carne?

5And because of this, a man leaves father and mother and is firmly bonded to his wife, becoming one flesh—no longer two bodies but one.

7They shot back in rebuttal, "If that's so, why did Moses give instructions for divorce papers and divorce procedures?"

8Jesus said, "Moses provided for divorce as a concession to your hardheartedness, but it is not part of God's original plan.

9Eu vos digo, porém, que qualquer que repudiar sua mulher, não sendo por causa de fornicação, e casar com outra, comete adultério; e o que casar com a repudiada também comete adultério.

9I'm holding you to the original plan, and holding you liable for adultery if you divorce your faithful wife and then marry someone else. I make an exception in cases where the spouse has committed adultery."

10Disseram-lhe seus discípulos: Se assim é a condição do homem relativamente à mulher, não convém casar.

10Jesus' disciples objected, "If those are the terms of marriage, we're stuck. Why get married?"

11Ele, porém, lhes disse: Nem todos podem receber esta palavra, mas só aqueles a quem foi concedido.

11But Jesus said, "Not everyone is mature enough to live a married life. It requires a certain aptitude and grace. Marriage isn't for everyone.

12Porque há eunucos que assim nasceram do ventre da mãe; e há eunucos que foram castrados pelos homens; e há eunucos que se castraram a si mesmos, por causa do reino dos céus. Quem pode receber isto, receba-o.

12Some, from birth seemingly, never give marriage a thought. Others never get asked—or accepted. And some decide not to get married for kingdom reasons. But if you're capable of growing into the largeness of marriage, do it."

13Trouxeram-lhe, então, alguns meninos, para que sobre eles pusesse as mãos, e orasse; mas os discípulos os repreendiam.

13One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off.

14Jesus, porém, disse: Deixai os meninos, e não os estorveis de vir a mim; porque dos tais é o reino dos céus.

14But Jesus intervened: "Let the children alone, don't prevent them from coming to me. God's kingdom is made up of people like these."

15After laying hands on them, he left.

16E eis que, aproximando-se dele um jovem, disse-lhe: Bom Mestre, que bem farei para conseguir a vida eterna?

16Another day, a man stopped Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

17E ele disse-lhe: Por que me chamas bom? Não há bom senão um só, que é Deus. Se queres, porém, entrar na vida, guarda os mandamentos.

17Jesus said, "Why do you question me about what's good? God is the One who is good. If you want to enter the life of God, just do what he tells you."

18Disse-lhe ele: Quais? E Jesus disse: Não matarás, não cometerás adultério, não furtarás, não dirás falso testemunho;

18The man asked, "What in particular?" Jesus said, "Don't murder, don't commit adultery, don't steal, don't lie,

19Honra teu pai e tua mãe, e amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo.

19honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as you do yourself."

20Disse-lhe o jovem: Tudo isso tenho guardado desde a minha mocidade; que me falta ainda?

20The young man said, "I've done all that. What's left?"

21Disse-lhe Jesus: Se queres ser perfeito, vai, vende tudo o que tens e dá-o aos pobres, e terás um tesouro no céu; e vem, e segue-me.

21"If you want to give it all you've got," Jesus replied, "go sell your possessions; give everything to the poor. All your wealth will then be in heaven. Then come follow me."

22E o jovem, ouvindo esta palavra, retirou-se triste, porque possuía muitas propriedades.

22That was the last thing the young man expected to hear. And so, crestfallen, he walked away. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and he couldn't bear to let go.

23Disse então Jesus aos seus discípulos: Em verdade vos digo que é difícil entrar um rico no reino dos céus.

23As he watched him go, Jesus told his disciples, "Do you have any idea how difficult it is for the rich to enter God's kingdom?

24E, outra vez vos digo que é mais fácil passar um camelo pelo fundo de uma agulha do que entrar um rico no reino de Deus.

24Let me tell you, it's easier to gallop a camel through a needle's eye than for the rich to enter God's kingdom."

25Os seus discípulos, ouvindo isto, admiraram-se muito, dizendo: Quem poderá pois salvar-se?

25The disciples were staggered. "Then who has any chance at all?"

26E Jesus, olhando para eles, disse-lhes: Aos homens é isso impossível, mas a Deus tudo é possível.
MSG
26Jesus looked hard at them and said, "No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it."

27Então Pedro, tomando a palavra, disse-lhe: Eis que nós deixamos tudo, e te seguimos; que receberemos?

27Then Peter chimed in, "We left everything and followed you. What do we get out of it?"

28E Jesus disse-lhes: Em verdade vos digo que vós, que me seguistes, quando, na regeneração, o Filho do homem se assentar no trono da sua glória, também vos assentareis sobre doze tronos, para julgar as doze tribos de Israel.

28Jesus replied, "Yes, you have followed me. In the re-creation of the world, when the Son of Man will rule gloriously, you who have followed me will also rule, starting with the twelve tribes of Israel.

29E todo aquele que tiver deixado casas, ou irmãos, ou irmãs, ou pai, ou mãe, ou mulher, ou filhos, ou terras, por amor de meu nome, receberá cem vezes tanto, e herdará a vida eterna.

29And not only you, but anyone who sacrifices home, family, fields—whatever—because of me will get it all back a hundred times over, not to mention the considerable bonus of eternal life.
