1E no segundo ano do reinado de Nabucodonosor, teve Nabucodonosor uns sonhos; e o seu espírito se perturbou, e passou-se-lhe o seu sono.

1In the second year of his reign, King Nebuchadnezzar started having dreams that disturbed him deeply. He couldn't sleep.

2E o rei mandou chamar os magos, e os astrólogos, e os encantadores, e os caldeus, para que declarassem ao rei qual tinha sido o seu sonho; e eles vieram e se apresentaram diante do rei.

2He called in all the Babylonian magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and fortunetellers to interpret his dreams for him. When they came and lined up before the king,

3E o rei lhes disse: Tive um sonho; e, para saber o sonho, está perturbado o meu espírito.

3he said to them, "I had a dream that I can't get out of my mind. I can't sleep until I know what it means."

4E os caldeus disseram ao rei em siríaco: Ó rei, vive eternamente! Dize o sonho a teus servos, e daremos a interpretação.

4The fortunetellers, speaking in the Aramaic language, said, "Long live the king! Tell us the dream and we will interpret it."

5Respondeu o rei e disse aos caldeus: O que foi me tem escapado; se me não fizerdes saber o sonho e a sua interpretação, sereis despedaçados, e as vossas casas serão feitas um monturo;

5The king answered the fortunetellers, "This is my decree: If you can't tell me both the dream itself and its interpretation, I'll have you ripped to pieces, limb from limb, and your homes torn down.

6mas, se vós me declarardes o sonho e a sua interpretação, recebereis de mim presentes, e dádivas, e grande honra; portanto, declarai-me o sonho e a sua interpretação.

6But if you tell me both the dream and its interpretation, I'll lavish you with gifts and honors. So go to it: Tell me the dream and its interpretation."

7Responderam segunda vez e disseram: Diga o rei o sonho a seus servos, e daremos a sua interpretação.

7They answered, "If it please your majesty, tell us the dream. We'll give the interpretation."

8Respondeu o rei e disse: Percebo muito bem que vós quereis ganhar tempo; porque vedes que o que eu sonhei me tem escapado.

8But the king said, "I know what you're up to—you're just playing for time. You know you're up a tree.

9Por consequência, se me não fazeis saber o sonho, uma só sentença será a vossa; pois vós preparastes palavras mentirosas e perversas para as proferirdes na minha presença, até que se mude o tempo; portanto, dizei-me o sonho, para que eu entenda que me podeis dar a sua interpretação.

9You know that if you can't tell me my dream, you're doomed. I see right through you—you're going to cook up some fancy stories and confuse the issue until I change my mind. Nothing doing! First tell me the dream, then I'll know that you're on the up and up with the interpretation and not just blowing smoke in my eyes."

10Responderam os caldeus na presença do rei e disseram: Não há ninguém sobre a terra que possa declarar a palavra ao rei; pois nenhum rei há, senhor ou dominador, que requeira coisa semelhante de algum mago, ou astrólogo, ou caldeu.

10The fortunetellers said, "Nobody anywhere can do what you ask. And no king, great or small, has ever demanded anything like this from any magician, enchanter, or fortuneteller.

11Porquanto a coisa que o rei requer é difícil, e ninguém há que a possa declarar diante do rei, senão os deuses, cuja morada não é com a carne.

11What you're asking is impossible unless some god or goddess should reveal it—and they don't hang around with people like us."

12Então, o rei muito se irou e enfureceu; e ordenou que matassem a todos os sábios de Babilônia.
MSG
12That set the king off. He lost his temper and ordered the whole company of Babylonian wise men killed.

13E saiu o decreto segundo o qual deviam ser mortos os sábios; e buscaram Daniel e os seus companheiros, para que fossem mortos.

13When the death warrant was issued, Daniel and his companions were included. They also were marked for execution.

14Então, Daniel falou avisada e prudentemente a Arioque, capitão da guarda do rei, que tinha saído para matar os sábios de Babilônia.

14When Arioch, chief of the royal guards, was making arrangements for the execution, Daniel wisely took him aside

15Respondeu e disse a Arioque, encarregado do rei: Por que se apressa tanto o mandado da parte do rei? Então, Arioque explicou o caso a Daniel.

15and quietly asked what was going on: "Why this all of a sudden?"After Arioch filled in the background,

16E Daniel entrou e pediu ao rei que lhe desse tempo, para que pudesse dar a interpretação.

16Daniel went to the king and asked for a little time so that he could interpret the dream.

17Então, Daniel foi para a sua casa e fez saber o caso a Hananias, Misael e Azarias, seus companheiros,

17Daniel then went home and told his companions Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what was going on.

18para que pedissem misericórdia ao Deus dos céus sobre este segredo, a fim de que Daniel e seus companheiros não perecessem com o resto dos sábios da Babilônia.

18He asked them to pray to the God of heaven for mercy in solving this mystery so that the four of them wouldn't be killed along with the whole company of Babylonian wise men.

19Então, foi revelado o segredo a Daniel numa visão de noite; e Daniel louvou o Deus do céu.

19That night the answer to the mystery was given to Daniel in a vision. Daniel blessed the God of heaven,

20Falou Daniel e disse: Seja bendito o nome de Deus para todo o sempre, porque dele é a sabedoria e a força;

20saying,"Blessed be the name of God,forever and ever.He knows all, does all:

21ele muda os tempos e as horas; ele remove os reis e estabelece os reis; ele dá sabedoria aos sábios e ciência aos inteligentes.

21He changes the seasons and guides history,He raises up kings and also brings them down,he provides both intelligence and discernment,

22Ele revela o profundo e o escondido e conhece o que está em trevas; e com ele mora a luz.

22He opens up the depths, tells secrets,sees in the dark—light spills out of him!

23Ó Deus de meus pais, eu te louvo e celebro porque me deste sabedoria e força; e, agora, me fizeste saber o que te pedimos, porque nos fizeste saber este assunto do rei.

23God of all my ancestors, all thanks! all praise!You made me wise and strong.And now you've shown us what we asked for.You've solved the king's mystery."

24Por isso, Daniel foi ter com Arioque, ao qual o rei tinha constituído para matar os sábios da Babilônia; entrou e disse-lhe assim: Não mates os sábios de Babilônia; introduze-me na presença do rei, e darei ao rei a interpretação.

24So Daniel went back to Arioch, who had been put in charge of the execution. He said, "Call off the execution! Take me to the king and I'll interpret his dream."

25Então, Arioque depressa introduziu Daniel na presença do rei e disse-lhe assim: Achei um dentre os filhos dos cativos de Judá, o qual fará saber ao rei a interpretação.

25Arioch didn't lose a minute. He ran to the king, bringing Daniel with him, and said, "I've found a man from the exiles of Judah who can interpret the king's dream!"

26Respondeu o rei e disse a Daniel (cujo nome era Beltessazar): Podes tu fazer-me saber o sonho que vi e a sua interpretação?

26The king asked Daniel (renamed in Babylonian, Belteshazzar), "Are you sure you can do this—tell me the dream I had and interpret it for me?"

27Respondeu Daniel na presença do rei e disse: O segredo que o rei requer, nem sábios, nem astrólogos, nem magos, nem adivinhos o podem descobrir ao rei.

27Daniel answered the king, "No mere human can solve the king's mystery, I don't care who it is—no wise man, enchanter, magician, diviner.

28Mas há um Deus nos céus, o qual revela os segredos; ele, pois, fez saber ao rei Nabucodonosor o que há de ser no fim dos dias; o teu sonho e as visões da tua cabeça na tua cama são estas:

28But there is a God in heaven who solves mysteries, and he has solved this one. He is letting King Nebuchadnezzar in on what is going to happen in the days ahead. This is the dream you had when you were lying on your bed, the vision that filled your mind:

29Estando tu, ó rei, na tua cama, subiram os teus pensamentos ao que há de ser depois disto. Aquele, pois, que revela os segredos te fez saber o que há de ser.

29"While you were stretched out on your bed, O king, thoughts came to you regarding what is coming in the days ahead. The Revealer of Mysteries showed you what will happen.

30E a mim me foi revelado este segredo, não porque haja em mim mais sabedoria do que em todos os viventes, mas para que a interpretação se fizesse saber ao rei e para que entendesses os pensamentos do teu coração.

30But the interpretation is given through me, not because I'm any smarter than anyone else in the country, but so that you will know what it means, so that you will understand what you dreamed.

31Tu, ó rei, estavas vendo, e eis aqui uma grande estátua; essa estátua, que era grande, e cujo esplendor era excelente, estava em pé diante de ti; e a sua vista era terrível.

31"What you saw, O king, was a huge statue standing before you, striking in appearance. And terrifying.

32A cabeça daquela estátua era de ouro fino; o seu peito e os seus braços, de prata; o seu ventre e as suas coxas, de cobre;

32The head of the statue was pure gold, the chest and arms were silver, the belly and hips were bronze,

33as pernas, de ferro; os seus pés, em parte de ferro e em parte de barro.

33the legs were iron, and the feet were an iron-ceramic mixture.

34Estavas vendo isso, quando uma pedra foi cortada, sem mão, a qual feriu a estátua nos pés de ferro e de barro e os esmiuçou.

34While you were looking at this statue, a stone cut out of a mountain by an invisible hand hit the statue, smashing its iron-ceramic feet.

35Então, foi juntamente esmiuçado o ferro, o barro, o cobre, a prata e o ouro, os quais se fizeram como a pragana das eiras no estio, e o vento os levou, e não se achou lugar algum para eles; mas a pedra que feriu a estátua se fez um grande monte e encheu toda a terra.

35Then the whole thing fell to pieces—iron, tile, bronze, silver, and gold, smashed to bits. It was like scraps of old newspapers in a vacant lot in a hot dry summer, blown every which way by the wind, scattered to oblivion. But the stone that hit the statue became a huge mountain, dominating the horizon.

36Este é o sonho; também a interpretação dele diremos na presença do rei.

36This was your dream."And now we'll interpret it for the king.

37Tu, ó rei, és rei de reis, pois o Deus dos céus te tem dado o reino, e o poder, e a força, e a majestade.

37You, O king, are the most powerful king on earth. The God of heaven has given you the works: rule, power, strength, and glory.

38E, onde quer que habitem filhos de homens, animais do campo e aves do céu, ele tos entregou na tua mão e fez que dominasses sobre todos eles; tu és a cabeça de ouro.

38He has put you in charge of men and women, wild animals and birds, all over the world—you're the head ruler, you are the head of gold.

39E, depois de ti, se levantará outro reino, inferior ao teu, e um terceiro reino, de metal, o qual terá domínio sobre toda a terra.

39But your rule will be taken over by another kingdom, inferior to yours, and that one by a third, a bronze kingdom, but still ruling the whole land,

40E o quarto reino será forte como ferro; pois, como o ferro esmiúça e quebra tudo, como o ferro quebra todas as coisas, ele esmiuçará e quebrantará.

40and after that by a fourth kingdom, iron-like in strength. Just as iron smashes things to bits, breaking and pulverizing, it will bust up the previous kingdoms.

41E, quanto ao que viste dos pés e dos artelhos, em parte de barro de oleiro e em parte de ferro, isso será um reino dividido; contudo, haverá nele alguma coisa da firmeza do ferro, pois que viste o ferro misturado com barro de lodo.

41"But then the feet and toes that ended up as a mixture of ceramic and iron will deteriorate into a mongrel kingdom with some remains of iron in it. Just as the toes of the feet were part ceramic and part iron,

42E, como os artelhos eram em parte de ferro e em parte de barro, assim por uma parte o reino será forte e por outra será frágil.

42it will end up a mixed bag of the breakable and unbreakable.

43Quanto ao que viste do ferro misturado com barro de lodo, misturar-se-ão com semente humana, mas não se ligarão um ao outro, assim como o ferro se não mistura com o barro.

43That kingdom won't bond, won't hold together any more than iron and clay hold together.

44Mas, nos dias desses reis, o Deus do céu levantará um reino que não será jamais destruído; e esse reino não passará a outro povo; esmiuçará e consumirá todos esses reinos e será estabelecido para sempre.

44"But throughout the history of these kingdoms, the God of heaven will be building a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will this kingdom ever fall under the domination of another. In the end it will crush the other kingdoms and finish them off and come through it all standing strong and eternal.

45Da maneira como viste que do monte foi cortada uma pedra, sem mãos, e ela esmiuçou o ferro, o cobre, o barro, a prata e o ouro, o Deus grande fez saber ao rei o que há de ser depois disso; e certo é o sonho, e fiel a sua interpretação.

45It will be like the stone cut from the mountain by the invisible hand that crushed the iron, the bronze, the ceramic, the silver, and the gold."The great God has let the king know what will happen in the years to come. This is an accurate telling of the dream, and the interpretation is also accurate."

46Então, o rei Nabucodonosor caiu sobre o seu rosto, e adorou a Daniel, e ordenou que lhe fizessem oferta de manjares e perfumes suaves.

46When Daniel finished, King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face in awe before Daniel. He ordered the offering of sacrifices and burning of incense in Daniel's honor.

47Respondeu o rei a Daniel e disse: Certamente, o vosso Deus é Deus dos deuses, e o Senhor dos reis, e o revelador dos segredos, pois pudeste revelar este segredo.

47He said to Daniel, "Your God is beyond question the God of all gods, the Master of all kings. And he solves all mysteries, I know, because you've solved this mystery."

48Então, o rei engrandeceu a Daniel, e lhe deu muitos e grandes presentes, e o pôs por governador de toda a província de Babilônia, como também por principal governador de todos os sábios de Babilônia.

48Then the king promoted Daniel to a high position in the kingdom, lavished him with gifts, and made him governor over the entire province of Babylon and the chief in charge of all the Babylonian wise men.

49E pediu Daniel ao rei, e constituiu ele sobre os negócios da província de Babilônia a Sadraque, Mesaque e Abede-Nego; mas Daniel estava às portas do rei.

49At Daniel's request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to administrative posts throughout Babylon, while Daniel governed from the royal headquarters.
