1E subiu o Anjo do SENHOR de Gilgal a Boquim e disse: Do Egito vos fiz subir, e vos trouxe à terra que a vossos pais tinha jurado, e disse: Nunca invalidarei o meu concerto convosco.

1Godangel went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, "I brought you out of Egypt; I led you to the land that I promised to your fathers; and I said, I'll never break my covenant with you—never!

2E, quanto a vós, não fareis concerto com os moradores desta terra; antes, derrubareis os seus altares. Mas vós não obedecestes à minha voz. Por que fizestes isso?

2And you're never to make a covenant with the people who live in this land. Tear down their altars! But you haven't obeyed me! What's this that you're doing?

3Pelo que também eu disse: Não os expelirei de diante de vós; antes, estarão às vossas costas, e os seus deuses vos serão por laço.

3"So now I'm telling you that I won't drive them out before you. They'll trip you up and their gods will become a trap."

4E sucedeu que, falando o Anjo do SENHOR estas palavras a todos os filhos de Israel, o povo levantou a sua voz e chorou.

4When God's angel had spoken these words to all the People of Israel, they cried out—oh! how they wept!

5Pelo que chamaram àquele lugar Boquim; e sacrificaram ali ao SENHOR.
MSG
5They named the place Bokim (Weepers). And there they sacrificed to God.

6E, havendo Josué despedido o povo, foram-se os filhos de Israel, cada um à sua herdade, para possuírem a terra.

6After Joshua had dismissed them, the People of Israel went off to claim their allotted territories and take possession of the land.

7E serviu o povo ao SENHOR todos os dias de Josué e todos os dias dos anciãos que prolongaram os seus dias depois de Josué e viram toda aquela grande obra do SENHOR, a qual ele fizera a Israel.

7The people worshiped God throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the time of the leaders who survived him, leaders who had been in on all of God's great work that he had done for Israel.

8Faleceu, porém, Josué, filho de Num, servo do SENHOR, da idade de cento e dez anos.

8Then Joshua son of Nun, the servant of God, died. He was 110 years old.

9E sepultaram-no no termo da sua herdade, em Timnate-Heres, no monte de Efraim, para o norte do monte Gaás.
MSG
9They buried him in his allotted inheritance at Timnath Heres in the hills of Ephraim north of Mount Gaash.

10E foi também congregada toda aquela geração a seus pais, e outra geração após eles se levantou, que não conhecia o SENHOR, nem tampouco a obra que fizera a Israel.

10Eventually that entire generation died and was buried. Then another generation grew up that didn't know anything of God or the work he had done for Israel.

11Então, fizeram os filhos de Israel o que parecia mal aos olhos do SENHOR; e serviram aos baalins.

11The People of Israel did evil in God's sight:

12E deixaram o SENHOR, Deus de seus pais, que os tirara da terra do Egito, e foram-se após outros deuses, dentre os deuses das gentes que havia ao redor deles, e encurvaram-se a eles, e provocaram o SENHOR à ira.

12they served Baal-gods; they deserted God, the God of their parents who had led them out of Egypt; they took up with other gods, gods of the peoples around them. They actually worshiped them! And oh, how they angered God

13Porquanto deixaram ao SENHOR e serviram a Baal e a Astarote.

13as they worshiped god Baal and goddess Astarte!

14Pelo que a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel, e os deu na mão dos roubadores, e os roubaram; e os entregou na mão dos seus inimigos ao redor; e não puderam mais estar em pé diante dos seus inimigos.

14God's anger was hot against Israel: He handed them off to plunderers who stripped them; he sold them cheap to enemies on all sides. They were helpless before their enemies.

15Por onde quer que saíam, a mão do SENHOR era contra eles para mal, como o SENHOR tinha dito e como o SENHOR lho tinha jurado; e estavam em grande aperto.

15Every time they walked out the door God was with them—but for evil, just as God had said, just as he had sworn he would do. They were in a bad way.

16E levantou o SENHOR juízes, que os livraram da mão dos que os roubaram.
MSG
16But then God raised up judges who saved them from their plunderers.
ARC
17Porém tampouco ouviram aos juízes; antes, se prostituíram após outros deuses e encurvaram-se a eles; depressa se desviaram do caminho por onde andaram seus pais ouvindo os mandamentos do SENHOR; mas eles não fizeram assim.

17But they wouldn't listen to their judges; they prostituted themselves to other gods—worshiped them! They lost no time leaving the road walked by their parents, the road of obedience to God's commands. They refused to have anything to do with it.

18E, quando o SENHOR lhes levantava juízes, o SENHOR era com o juiz e os livrava da mão dos seus inimigos, todos os dias daquele juiz; porquanto o SENHOR se arrependia pelo seu gemido, por causa dos que os apertavam e oprimiam.

18When God was setting up judges for them, he would be right there with the judge: He would save them from their enemies' oppression as long as the judge was alive, for God was moved to compassion when he heard their groaning because of those who afflicted and beat them.

19Porém sucedia que, falecendo o juiz, tornavam e se corrompiam mais do que seus pais, andando após outros deuses, servindo-os e encurvando-se a eles; nada deixavam das suas obras, nem do seu duro caminho.

19But when the judge died, the people went right back to their old ways—but even worse than their parents!—running after other gods, serving and worshiping them. Stubborn as mules, they didn't drop a single evil practice.

20Pelo que a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel; e disse: Porquanto este povo traspassou o meu concerto que tinha ordenado a seus pais e não deu ouvidos à minha voz.

20And God's anger blazed against Israel. He said, "Because these people have thrown out my covenant that I commanded their parents and haven't listened to me,

21Tampouco desapossarei mais de diante deles a nenhuma das nações que Josué deixou, morrendo;

21I'm not driving out one more person from the nations that Joshua left behind when he died.

22para por elas provar a Israel, se hão de guardar o caminho do SENHOR, como seus pais o guardaram, para por ele andarem ou não.
MSG
22I'll use them to test Israel and see whether they stay on God's road and walk down it as their parents did."

23Assim, o SENHOR deixou ficar aquelas nações e não as desterrou logo, nem as entregou na mão de Josué.

23That's why God let those nations remain. He didn't drive them out or let Joshua get rid of them.
