1Assim diz o SENHOR: Pelas três transgressões de Moabe, sim, e pela quarta, não retirarei o castigo; pois queimou os ossos do rei de Edom até reduzi-los a cinzas.

1God's Message:"Because of the three great sins of Moab—make that four—I'm not putting up with her any longer.She violated the corpse of Edom's king,burning it to cinders.

2Por isso atearei fogo a Moabe, e ele consumirá os palácios de Queriote; e Moabe morrerá com grande tumulto, com gritos de guerra e som de trombeta.

2For that, I'm burning down Moab,burning down the forts of Kerioth.Moab will die in the shouting,go out in the blare of war trumpets.

3Eliminarei o juiz do seu meio e matarei todos os seus príncipes junto com ele, diz o SENHOR.

4Assim diz o SENHOR: Pelas três transgressões de Judá, sim, e pela quarta, não retirarei o castigo; pois rejeitaram a lei do SENHOR e não obedeceram aos seus estatutos, mas se deixaram enganar por suas ilusões, atrás das quais seus pais andaram.

4God's Message:"Because of the three great sins of Judah—make that four—I'm not putting up with them any longer.They rejected God's revelation,refused to keep my commands.But they swallowed the same old liesthat got their ancestors onto dead-end roads.

5Por isso atearei fogo a Judá, e ele consumirá os palácios de Jerusalém.

6Assim diz o SENHOR: Pelas três transgressões de Israel, sim, e pela quarta, não retirarei o castigo; pois vendem o justo por prata, e o necessitado, por um par de sandálias.

6God's Message:"Because of the three great sins of Israel—make that four—I'm not putting up with them any longer.They buy and sell upstanding people.People for them are only things—ways of making money.They'd sell a poor man for a pair of shoes.They'd sell their own grandmother!

7Esmagam a cabeça dos pobres no pó da terra, pervertem o caminho dos oprimidos; um homem e seu pai deitam-se com a mesma moça, profanando assim o meu santo nome.

7They grind the penniless into the dirt,shove the luckless into the ditch.Everyone and his brother sleeps with the 'sacred whore'—a sacrilege against my Holy Name.

8Também se deitam sobre roupas empenhadas junto a qualquer altar e bebem o vinho exigido como multa no templo de seu Deus.

8Stuff they've extorted from the pooris piled up at the shrine of their god,While they sit around drinking winethey've conned from their victims.

9Mas eu destruí diante deles os amorreus, tão altos quanto os cedros, cuja força era como a dos carvalhos; destruí seu fruto na parte de cima e suas raízes na parte de baixo.

9"In contrast, I was always on your side.I destroyed the Amorites who confronted you,Amorites with the stature of great cedars,tough as thick oaks.I destroyed them from the top branches down.I destroyed them from the roots up.

11Escolhi alguns de vossos filhos para serem profetas, e alguns de vossos jovens para serem nazireus. Por acaso não foi assim, israelitas?, diz o SENHOR.

13Agora, eu vos esmagarei no vosso lugar como se esmaga uma carroça carregada de feixes.

13You're too much for me.I'm hard-pressed—to the breaking point.I'm like a wagon piled high and overloaded,creaking and groaning.

14Assim, de nada adiantará ao ágil tentar fugir, nem o forte usará sua força, nem o valente salvará sua vida.

14"When I go into action, what will you do?There's no place to run no matter how fast you run.The strength of the strong won't count.Fighters won't make it.

15O que maneja o arco não ficará em pé, nem o veloz se livrará, nem mesmo o cavaleiro;

15Skilled archers won't make it.Fast runners won't make it.Chariot drivers won't make it.

16naquele dia, o mais corajoso entre os guerreiros fugirá nu, diz o SENHOR.
