1Enquanto eles estavam falando ao povo, chegaram os sacerdotes, o capitão dos guardas do templo e os saduceus,

1While Peter and John were addressing the people, the priests, the chief of the Temple police, and some Sadducees came up,

2muito incomodados porque os discípulos ensinavam o povo e anunciavam em Jesus a ressurreição dentre os mortos.

2indignant that these upstart apostles were instructing the people and proclaiming that the resurrection from the dead had taken place in Jesus.

3Então os prenderam e os colocaram na prisão até o dia seguinte, pois já era tarde.

3They arrested them and threw them in jail until morning, for by now it was late in the evening.

4Contudo, muitos dos que ouviram a palavra creram, e o número dos homens que creram aumentou para quase cinco mil.

4But many of those who listened had already believed the Message—in round numbers about five thousand!

5No dia seguinte, reuniram-se em Jerusalém as autoridades, os líderes religiosos e os escribas,

5The next day a meeting was called in Jerusalem. The rulers, religious leaders, religion scholars,

6Annas the Chief Priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander—everybody who was anybody was there.

7E, colocando-os diante de si, perguntaram-lhes: Com que poder ou em nome de quem fizestes isso?

7They stood Peter and John in the middle of the room and grilled them: "Who put you in charge here? What business do you have doing this?"

8Então Pedro, cheio do Espírito Santo, lhes disse: Autoridades do povo e vós, líderes religiosos,

8With that, Peter, full of the Holy Spirit, let loose: "Rulers and leaders of the people,

9se hoje somos questionados acerca do benefício feito a um doente, e pelo modo como foi curado,

9if we have been brought to trial today for helping a sick man, put under investigation regarding this healing,

10seja do conhecimento de todos vós e de todo o povo de Israel que, em nome de Jesus Cristo, o Nazareno, aquele a quem crucificastes e a quem Deus ressuscitou dentre os mortos, sim, por meio desse nome, este homem está aqui com boa saúde diante de vós.

10I'll be completely frank with you—we have nothing to hide. By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the One you killed on a cross, the One God raised from the dead, by means of his name this man stands before you healthy and whole.

13Observando a coragem de Pedro e de João, e percebendo que eram homens simples e sem erudição, eles se admiravam; e reconheceram que eles haviam convivido com Jesus.

13They couldn't take their eyes off them—Peter and John standing there so confident, so sure of themselves! Their fascination deepened when they realized these two were laymen with no training in Scripture or formal education. They recognized them as companions of Jesus,

14E, vendo com eles, em pé, o homem que havia sido curado, nada tinham para dizer em contrário.

14but with the man right before them, seeing him standing there so upright—so healed!—what could they say against that?

15Todavia, depois de mandá-los sair do Sinédrio, começaram a debater entre si,

15They sent them out of the room so they could work out a plan. They talked it over:

16dizendo: Que faremos a estes homens? Porque todos os que habitam em Jerusalém sabem que foi feito um sinal evidente por meio deles, e não o podemos negar.

16"What can we do with these men? By now it's known all over town that a miracle has occurred, and that they are behind it. There is no way we can refute that.

17Mas, para que isso não se divulgue mais entre o povo, vamos ameaçá-los para que de agora em diante a ninguém mais falem neste nome.

17But so that it doesn't go any further, let's silence them with threats so they won't dare to use Jesus' name ever again with anyone."

18E, chamando-os, ordenaram-lhes expressamente que não falassem nem ensinassem em nome de Jesus.

18They called them back and warned them that they were on no account ever again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.

19Mas, respondendo, Pedro e João lhes disseram: Julgai se é justo diante de Deus dar ouvidos a vós e não a Deus,

19But Peter and John spoke right back, "Whether it's right in God's eyes to listen to you rather than to God, you decide.

20pois não podemos deixar de falar das coisas que vimos e ouvimos.
MSG
20As for us, there's no question—we can't keep quiet about what we've seen and heard."

21Mas eles os ameaçaram ainda mais e, não achando motivo para castigá-los, soltaram-nos por causa do povo. Porque todos glorificavam a Deus pelo que acontecera;

21The religious leaders renewed their threats, but then released them. They couldn't come up with a charge that would stick, that would keep them in jail. The people wouldn't have stood for it—they were all praising God over what had happened.

22pois o homem em quem se operara a cura miraculosa tinha mais de quarenta anos.

22The man who had been miraculously healed was over forty years old.

23As soon as Peter and John were let go, they went to their friends and told them what the high priests and religious leaders had said.

24Hearing the report, they lifted their voices in a wonderful harmony in prayer: "Strong God, you made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.

25que, pelo Espírito Santo, disseste pela boca de nosso pai Davi, teu servo: Por que os gentios se enfureceram, e os povos imaginaram coisas vãs?

25By the Holy Spirit you spoke through the mouth of your servant and our father, David: Why the big noise, nations? Why the mean plots, peoples?

26Os reis da terra levantaram-se, e as autoridades aliaram-se contra o Senhor e contra o seu Ungido.

26Earth's leaders push for position, Potentates meet for summit talks, The God-deniers, the Messiah-defiers!

27Pois, nesta cidade, eles de fato se aliaram contra o teu santo Servo Jesus, a quem ungiste; não só Herodes, mas também Pôncio Pilatos com os gentios e os povos de Israel;

27"For in fact they did meet—Herod and Pontius Pilate with nations and peoples, even Israel itself!—met in this very city to plot against your holy Son Jesus, the One you made Messiah,

28para fazer tudo o que a tua mão e a tua vontade predeterminaram que se fizesse.

28to carry out the plans you long ago set in motion.

29Agora pois, ó Senhor, olha para as suas ameaças e concede aos teus servos que falem a tua palavra com toda coragem,

29"And now they're at it again! Take care of their threats and give your servants fearless confidence in preaching your Message,

30enquanto estendes a mão para curar e para realizar sinais e feitos extraordinários pelo nome de teu santo Servo Jesus.

30as you stretch out your hand to us in healings and miracles and wonders done in the name of your holy servant Jesus."

31E, quando terminaram de orar, o lugar em que estavam reunidos tremeu. Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo e passaram a anunciar com coragem a palavra de Deus.

31While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God's Word with fearless confidence.

32A multidão dos que criam estava unida de coração e de propósito; ninguém afirmava ser sua alguma coisa que possuísse, mas tudo era compartilhado por todos.

32The whole congregation of believers was united as one—one heart, one mind! They didn't even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, "That's mine; you can't have it." They shared everything.
