1King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you!

2Pareceu-me bem divulgar os sinais e as maravilhas que Deus, o Altíssimo, tem feito para comigo.

2It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me.

3Quão grandes são os seus sinais, e quão poderosas as suas maravilhas! O seu reino é um reino que dura para sempre, e o seu domínio é de geração em geração.

3How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation.

4Eu, Nabucodonosor, estava sossegado em minha casa, e próspero no meu palácio.

4I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and prospering in my palace.

5Tive um sonho que me deixou impressionado; deitado na minha cama, os pensamentos e as visões da minha mente me perturbaram.

5I saw a dream that made me afraid. As I lay in bed the fancies and the visions of my head alarmed me.

6Portanto, expedi um decreto de que fossem trazidos à minha presença todos os sábios da Babilônia, para que me revelassem a interpretação do sonho.

6So I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

7Então entraram os magos, os adivinhos, os astrólogos e os prognosticadores, e lhes contei o sonho; mas não puderam interpretá-lo.

7Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers came in, and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its interpretation.

8Por fim, veio à minha presença Daniel, cujo nome é Beltessazar, conforme o nome do meu deus, e que tem o espírito dos deuses santos, e eu lhe contei o sonho:

8At last Daniel came in before me — he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods — and I told him the dream, saying,

9Ó Beltessazar, chefe dos magos, sei que tens o espírito dos deuses santos, e nenhum mistério te é difícil, conta-me as visões do sonho que tive e a sua interpretação.

9“O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too difficult for you, tell me the visions of my dream that I saw and their interpretation.

10Eram assim as visões do meu sonho, quando estava na minha cama: eu olhava, e via uma árvore no meio da terra, e ela era muito alta.

10The visions of my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

11A árvore cresceu e se fortaleceu, e a sua altura chegou até o céu, e era vista até os confins da terra.

11The tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth.

12Sua folhagem era bela, e seu fruto era tanto que havia sustento para todos; os animais do campo achavam sombra debaixo dela, e as aves do céu faziam morada nos seus ramos, e toda criatura se sustentava dela.

12Its leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all. The beasts of the field found shade under it, and the birds of the heavens lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

13Tive essas visões no meu sonho, deitado na minha cama, e vi uma sentinela, um ser santo, descendo do céu.

13“I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven.

14Ele clamou bem alto e disse assim: Derrubai a árvore, cortai-lhe os ramos, sacudi suas folhas e espalhai o seu fruto; afugentem-se os animais de debaixo dela, e as aves dos seus ramos.

14He proclaimed aloud and said thus: ‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches.

15Mas deixai na terra o tronco com as raízes, numa cinta de ferro e de bronze, no meio da grama verde do campo; seja molhado pelo orvalho do céu e se alimente da grama da terra, como os animais.

15But leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, amid the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of heaven. Let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth.

16Seja mudada a sua mente, que deixará de ser humana, e lhe seja dada mente de animal; até que se passem sete tempos.

16Let his mind be changed from a man's, and let a beast's mind be given to him; and let seven periods of time pass over him.

17Esta sentença é por decreto das sentinelas e por mandado dos santos, a fim de que os que vivem saibam que o Altíssimo tem domínio sobre o reino dos homens, e o dá a quem quer, e até o mais humilde dos homens constitui sobre eles.

17The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.’

18Eu, rei Nabucodonosor, tive esse sonho. Tu, Beltessazar, diz a interpretação, porque nenhum sábio do meu reino pôde me revelar a interpretação; mas tu podes, pois tens o espírito dos deuses santos.

18This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. And you, O Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation, but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”

19Então Daniel, cujo nome era Beltessazar, ficou perplexo por algum tempo, e os seus pensamentos o perturbaram. O rei então disse: Beltessazar, não te impressiones com o sonho, nem com a interpretação. Beltessazar respondeu: Senhor meu, seja o sonho contra os que te odeiam, e a sua interpretação contra os teus inimigos.

19Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was dismayed for a while, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king answered and said, “Belteshazzar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies!

20A árvore que viste, que cresceu e se fortaleceu, cuja altura chegava até o céu, e que era vista por toda a terra;

20The tree you saw, which grew and became strong, so that its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth,

21cujas folhas eram belas, e o seu fruto era tanto que havia sustento para todos, debaixo da qual os animais do campo achavam sombra, e em cujos ramos habitavam as aves do céu;

21whose leaves were beautiful and its fruit abundant, and in which was food for all, under which beasts of the field found shade, and in whose branches the birds of the heavens lived —

22essa árvore és tu, que cresceste e te fortaleceste, ó rei; a tua grandeza cresceu e chegou até o céu, e o teu domínio, até a extremidade da terra.

22it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. Your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth.

23E quanto à sentinela que o rei viu, o ser santo que descia do céu e dizia: Cortai a árvore e destruí-a; porém deixai na terra o tronco com as raízes, numa cinta de ferro e de bronze, no meio da grama verde do campo; seja molhado pelo orvalho do céu e se alimente da grama da terra, como os animais, até que se passem sete tempos;

23And because the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven periods of time pass over him,’

24esta é a interpretação, ó rei: é o decreto do Altíssimo, que é enviado ao rei, meu senhor:

24this is the interpretation, O king: It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king,

25Tu serás expulso do meio dos homens, e a tua morada será com os animais do campo, e te farão comer grama como os bois; serás molhado pelo orvalho do céu, até que se passem sete tempos, até que reconheças que o Altíssimo tem domínio sobre o reino dos homens e o dá a quem quer.

25that you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.

26E quanto ao que foi dito, que deixassem o tronco com as raízes da árvore, o teu reino voltará para ti, depois que tiveres reconhecido que o céu reina.

26And as it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules.

27Portanto, aceita o meu conselho, ó rei: Abandona teus pecados, praticando a justiça, e renuncia às tuas maldades, usando de misericórdia com os pobres, se quiseres prolongar a tua tranquilidade.

27Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

28All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.

29Depois de doze meses, quando andava no palácio real da Babilônia,

29At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,

30o rei disse: Não é esta a grande Babilônia que edifiquei para a morada real, pela força do meu poder, e para a glória da minha majestade?

30and the king answered and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”

31O rei ainda estava falando quando veio uma voz do céu: A ti se diz, ó rei Nabucodonosor: O reino te foi tirado.

31While the words were still in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you,

32Serás expulso do meio dos homens e a tua morada será com os animais do campo; te farão comer grama como os bois, e passarão sete tempos até que reconheças que o Altíssimo tem domínio sobre o reino dos homens e o dá a quem quer.

33Na mesma hora, a palavra se cumpriu sobre Nabucodonosor: ele foi expulso do meio dos homens e começou a comer grama como os bois, e o seu corpo foi molhado pelo orvalho do céu, até que lhe cresceram pelos como as penas da águia, e as suas unhas, como as das aves.

33Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from among men and ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles' feathers, and his nails were like birds' claws.

34Mas ao fim daqueles dias, eu, Nabucodonosor, levantei os olhos ao céu e voltou a mim o meu entendimento, e eu bendisse o Altíssimo, e louvei e glorifiquei ao que vive para sempre; porque o seu domínio é um domínio eterno, e o seu reino é de geração em geração.

34At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation;

35E todos os moradores da terra são considerados nada; e ele age no exército do céu e entre os moradores da terra segundo a sua vontade; ninguém pode deter a sua mão, nem lhe dizer: Que fazes?

35all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”

36No mesmo tempo, voltou a mim o meu entendimento; e voltou a mim a minha majestade e o meu resplendor, para a glória do meu reino. Os meus conselheiros e os meus nobres me procuraram; e fui restabelecido no meu reino, e minha grandeza se tornou ainda maior.

36At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me. My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me.

37Portanto, eu, Nabucodonosor, agora louvo, exalto e glorifico ao Rei do céu; porque todas as suas obras são corretas, e os seus caminhos, justos, e ele pode humilhar aqueles que vivem orgulhosamente.

37Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.
