1Quando Mardoqueu soube de tudo o que se tinha passado, rasgou as vestes, vestiu-se de pano de saco e cobriu-se de cinza, e saiu pela cidade, chorando com alto e amargo clamor.

1When Mordecai learned what had been done, he ripped his clothes to shreds and put on sackcloth and ashes. Then he went out in the streets of the city crying out in loud and bitter cries.

2Chegou até a entrada do palácio real, pois ninguém vestido de pano de saco podia entrar pelas portas do rei.

2He came only as far as the King's Gate, for no one dressed in sackcloth was allowed to enter the King's Gate.

3Em todas as províncias onde a ordem e o decreto do rei chegaram, houve grande pranto entre os judeus, com jejum, choro e lamentação. Muitos se deitaram em pano de saco e em cinza.

3As the king's order was posted in every province, there was loud lament among the Jews—fasting, weeping, wailing. And most of them stretched out on sackcloth and ashes.

4Quando as criadas de Ester e os oficiais contaram tudo a ela, a rainha se angustiou muito e mandou roupas para que Mardoqueu as vestisse e tirasse o pano de saco; mas ele não as aceitou.

4Esther's maids and eunuchs came and told her. The queen was stunned. She sent fresh clothes to Mordecai so he could take off his sackcloth but he wouldn't accept them.

5Então Ester mandou chamar Hatá, um dos oficiais do rei, designado para servi-la, e mandou que ele falasse com Mardoqueu e descobrisse por que ele estava agindo daquela maneira.

5Esther called for Hathach, one of the royal eunuchs whom the king had assigned to wait on her, and told him to go to Mordecai and get the full story of what was happening.

6Então Hatá foi falar com Mardoqueu na praça da cidade, diante da porta do palácio real.

6So Hathach went to Mordecai in the town square in front of the King's Gate.

7Mardoqueu lhe contou tudo o que se tinha passado com ele e a soma exata da prata que Hamã tinha prometido depositar na tesouraria do rei para o extermínio dos judeus.
MSG
7Mordecai told him everything that had happened to him. He also told him the exact amount of money that Haman had promised to deposit in the royal bank to finance the massacre of the Jews.

8Também lhe deu a cópia do decreto anunciado em Susã, que falava do extermínio dos judeus, para que ele a mostrasse a Ester e lhe explicasse tudo, e lhe ordenasse que fosse falar com o rei, lhe pedisse misericórdia e intercedesse diante dele a favor do seu povo.

8Mordecai also gave him a copy of the bulletin that had been posted in Susa ordering the massacre so he could show it to Esther when he reported back with instructions to go to the king and intercede and plead with him for her people.

9Então Hatá veio e relatou a Ester as palavras de Mardoqueu.

9Hathach came back and told Esther everything Mordecai had said.

10Ester mandou que Hatá dissesse o seguinte a Mardoqueu:

10Esther talked it over with Hathach and then sent him back to Mordecai with this message:

11Todos os que serviam o rei e o povo das províncias do rei bem sabem que só há uma sentença para qualquer homem ou mulher que for à presença do rei no pátio interior sem ser chamado: a morte; a menos que o rei lhe estenda o cetro de ouro e lhe poupe a vida. Mas já faz trinta dias que não sou chamada para entrar na presença do rei.

11"Everyone who works for the king here, and even the people out in the provinces, knows that there is a single fate for every man or woman who approaches the king without being invited: death. The one exception is if the king extends his gold scepter; then he or she may live. And it's been thirty days now since I've been invited to come to the king."

12When Hathach told Mordecai what Esther had said,

13este mandou que respondessem a Ester: Não imagines que, por estares no palácio do rei, serás a única a escapar entre os judeus,

13Mordecai sent her this message: "Don't think that just because you live in the king's house you're the one Jew who will get out of this alive.

14pois se te calares agora, socorro e livramento surgirão de outra parte para os judeus, mas tu e a tua família sereis eliminados. Quem sabe se não foi para este momento que foste conduzida à realeza?

14If you persist in staying silent at a time like this, help and deliverance will arrive for the Jews from someplace else; but you and your family will be wiped out. Who knows? Maybe you were made queen for just such a time as this."

15E Ester mandou a seguinte resposta a Mardoqueu:

15Esther sent back her answer to Mordecai:

16Vai e reúne todos os judeus que estão em Susã, e jejuai por mim. Não comais nem bebais por três dias, nem de noite nem de dia; e eu e as minhas criadas também jejuaremos como vós. Depois irei à presença do rei, ainda que isso seja contra a lei. Se for preciso morrer, morrerei.

16"Go and get all the Jews living in Susa together. Fast for me. Don't eat or drink for three days, either day or night. I and my maids will fast with you. If you will do this, I'll go to the king, even though it's forbidden. If I die, I die."

17Então Mardoqueu foi e fez tudo o que Ester havia ordenado.

17Mordecai left and carried out Esther's instructions.
