1Três dias depois, Ester vestiu os trajes reais e foi ao pátio interior do palácio do rei, que fica diante da sala do rei. O rei estava sentado em seu trono, na sala real, de frente para a entrada.

1Three days later Esther dressed in her royal robes and took up a position in the inner court of the palace in front of the king's throne room. The king was on his throne facing the entrance.

2Quando o rei viu a rainha Ester, que estava em pé no pátio, teve misericórdia dela e estendeu para Ester o cetro de ouro que tinha na mão. Ester aproximou-se e tocou na ponta do cetro.

2When he noticed Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased to see her; the king extended the gold scepter in his hand. Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

3Então o rei lhe disse: O que há, rainha Ester? Qual é a tua petição? Até a metade do reino te será dada.
MSG
3The king asked, "And what's your desire, Queen Esther? What do you want? Ask and it's yours—even if it's half my kingdom!"

4Ester respondeu: Se for do agrado do rei, venha hoje com Hamã ao banquete que eu lhe preparei.
MSG
4"If it please the king," said Esther, "let the king come with Haman to a dinner I've prepared for him."

5Então o rei disse: Depressa, trazei Hamã para que atendamos ao pedido de Ester. Então o rei e Hamã foram ao banquete que Ester tinha preparado.
MSG
5"Get Haman at once," said the king, "so we can go to dinner with Esther."So the king and Haman joined Esther at the dinner she had arranged.

6Enquanto bebiam vinho, o rei perguntou novamente a Ester: Qual é a tua petição? Serás atendida. Qual é o teu desejo? Até a metade do reino te será dada.

6As they were drinking the wine, the king said, "Now, what is it you want? Half of my kingdom isn't too much to ask! Just ask."

7Então Ester respondeu: Aqui está a minha petição e o meu desejo:

7Esther answered, "Here's what I want.

8Se o rei quiser ser bondoso comigo, e se for do agrado do rei atender a minha petição e cumprir o meu desejo, que o rei e Hamã venham amanhã ao banquete que vou preparar-lhes. Então responderei à pergunta do rei.

8If the king favors me and is pleased to do what I desire and ask, let the king and Haman come again tomorrow to the dinner that I will fix for them. Then I'll give a straight answer to the king's question."

9Naquele dia, Hamã saiu alegre e satisfeito. Mas quando viu Mardoqueu junto à porta do palácio real, e este não se levantou nem lhe mostrou respeito, ficou irado com Mardoqueu.

9Haman left the palace that day happy, beaming. And then he saw Mordecai sitting at the King's Gate ignoring him, oblivious to him. Haman was furious with Mordecai.

10Porém Hamã se controlou e foi para casa. Mandou buscar seus amigos e Zeres, sua mulher.

10But he held himself in and went on home. He got his friends together with his wife Zeresh

11Hamã se vangloriou das suas riquezas, dos seus muitos filhos e do quanto o rei o havia honrado e promovido acima dos outros príncipes e homens que o serviam.

11and started bragging about how much money he had, his many sons, all the times the king had honored him, and his promotion to the highest position in the government.

12E Hamã acrescentou: Além disso, a rainha Ester não chamou mais ninguém ao banquete que preparou para o rei, senão a mim. Também me convidou para comparecer com o rei amanhã.

12"On top of all that," Haman continued, "Queen Esther invited me to a private dinner she gave for the king, just the three of us. And she's invited me to another one tomorrow.

13Mas tudo isso não me satisfaz enquanto eu vir o judeu Mardoqueu sentado à porta do palácio real.

13But I can't enjoy any of it when I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King's Gate."

14Então Zeres, sua mulher, e todos os seus amigos lhe disseram: Manda fazer uma forca de cinquenta côvados de altura, e pela manhã pede ao rei que Mardoqueu seja enforcado nela. Depois, alegra-te e vai com o rei para o banquete. Hamã gostou do conselho e mandou fazer a forca.

14His wife Zeresh and all his friends said, "Build a gallows seventy-five feet high. First thing in the morning speak with the king; get him to order Mordecai hanged on it. Then happily go with the king to dinner."Haman liked that. He had the gallows built.
