1O rei e Hamã foram ao banquete com a rainha Ester,

1So the king and Haman went to dinner with Queen Esther.

2e, enquanto estavam bebendo vinho, o rei perguntou novamente a Ester: Qual é a tua petição? Serás atendida. Qual é o teu desejo? Até a metade do reino te será dada.

2At this second dinner, while they were drinking wine the king again asked, "Queen Esther, what would you like? Half of my kingdom! Just ask and it's yours."

3Então a rainha Ester respondeu: Ó rei! Se alcancei o teu favor e se for do agrado do rei, que sejam poupadas a minha vida e a vida do meu povo; esta é a minha petição e o meu desejo.

3Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor in your eyes, O King, and if it please the king, give me my life, and give my people their lives.

4Pois o meu povo e eu fomos vendidos para destruição, morte e extermínio. Se nos tivessem vendido somente como escravos e escravas eu ficaria calada, pois essa perturbação não justificaria a preocupação do rei.

4"We've been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed—sold to be massacred, eliminated. If we had just been sold off into slavery, I wouldn't even have brought it up; our troubles wouldn't have been worth bothering the king over."

5Então o rei Xerxes perguntou à rainha Ester: Quem é esse que ousa fazer uma coisa dessas? E onde ele está?

5King Xerxes exploded, "Who? Where is he? This is monstrous!"

6Ester respondeu: O adversário e inimigo é este perverso Hamã! Então Hamã ficou aterrorizado diante do rei e da rainha.

6"An enemy. An adversary. This evil Haman," said Esther.Haman was terror-stricken before the king and queen.

7E o rei, furioso, levantou-se do banquete do vinho e foi para o jardim do palácio. Hamã percebeu que o rei já tinha determinado a sua condenação e, por isso, ficou para implorar por sua vida à rainha Ester.

7The king, raging, left his wine and stalked out into the palace garden.Haman stood there pleading with Queen Esther for his life—he could see that the king was finished with him and that he was doomed.

8Quando o rei voltou do jardim do palácio à sala do banquete do vinho, viu Hamã caído sobre o assento em que Ester estava. E então falou: Será que ele chegaria ao ponto de violentar a rainha na minha presença e na minha própria casa? Quando ele acabou de dizer isso, cobriram o rosto de Hamã.

8As the king came back from the palace garden into the banquet hall, Haman was groveling at the couch on which Esther reclined. The king roared out, "Will he even molest the queen while I'm just around the corner?"When that word left the king's mouth, all the blood drained from Haman's face.

9Então Harbona, um dos oficiais que serviam diante do rei, disse: Há uma forca de cinquenta côvados de altura que Hamã fez para Mardoqueu, aquele que intercedeu pelo rei, que está junto à casa de Hamã. Então o rei ordenou: Enforcai-o nela.

9Harbona, one of the eunuchs attending the king, spoke up: "Look over there! There's the gallows that Haman had built for Mordecai, who saved the king's life. It's right next to Haman's house—seventy-five feet high!"The king said, "Hang him on it!"

10E eles o enforcaram na forca que ele havia preparado para Mardoqueu. Então o furor do rei se acalmou.

10So Haman was hanged on the very gallows that he had built for Mordecai. And the king's hot anger cooled.
