1Naquele mesmo dia, o rei Xerxes deu à rainha Ester os bens de Hamã, o inimigo dos judeus. E Mardoqueu apresentou-se diante do rei, pois Ester tinha revelado quem ele era.

1That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, archenemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king because Esther had explained their relationship.

2O rei tirou o anel de selar que havia tomado de Hamã e o deu a Mardoqueu. E Ester encarregou Mardoqueu dos bens de Hamã.

2The king took off his signet ring, which he had taken back from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. Esther appointed Mordecai over Haman's estate.

3Mas Ester voltou a implorar ao rei e, lançando-se aos pés dele, suplicou-lhe com lágrimas que revogasse o plano perverso que Hamã, o descendente de Agague, tinha maquinado contra os judeus.

3Then Esther again spoke to the king, falling at his feet, begging with tears to counter the evil of Haman the Agagite and revoke the plan that he had plotted against the Jews.

4The king extended his gold scepter to Esther. She got to her feet and stood before the king.

5e disse: Se for do agrado do rei, e se eu alcancei o seu favor, e se ele considerar justo, e se eu lhe agrado, que se revoguem por escrito as cartas que Hamã, filho de Hamedata, descendente de Agague, escreveu para exterminar os judeus em todas as províncias do rei.

5She said, "If it please the king and he regards me with favor and thinks this is right, and if he has any affection for me at all, let an order be written that cancels the bulletins authorizing the plan of Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite to annihilate the Jews in all the king's provinces.

6Pois como poderei suportar a calamidade que sobrevirá ao meu povo? Como suportarei a destruição da minha família?

6How can I stand to see this catastrophe wipe out my people? How can I bear to stand by and watch the massacre of my own relatives?"

7Então o rei Xerxes respondeu à rainha Ester e ao judeu Mardoqueu: Entreguei os bens de Hamã a Ester e mandei enforcá-lo porque ergueu a mão contra os judeus.

7King Xerxes said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew: "I've given Haman's estate to Esther and he's been hanged on the gallows because he attacked the Jews.

8Escrevei outro decreto a favor dos judeus, em nome do rei, como melhor vos parecer, e selai-o com o anel do rei, pois um documento escrito em nome do rei e selado com o anel do rei não pode ser revogado.

8So go ahead now and write whatever you decide on behalf of the Jews; then seal it with the signet ring." (An order written in the king's name and sealed with his signet ring is irrevocable.)

9Isso ocorreu no vigésimo terceiro dia do terceiro mês, o mês de sivã. Os secretários foram chamados e escreveram tudo o que Mardoqueu tinha ordenado acerca dos judeus, aos sátrapas, aos governadores e aos príncipes das cento e vinte e sete províncias que se estendem da Índia até a Etiópia. Essas ordens foram redigidas na escrita de cada província e na língua de cada povo, como também aos judeus, na sua escrita e na sua língua.

9So the king's secretaries were brought in on the twenty-third day of the third month, the month of Sivan, and the order regarding the Jews was written word for word as Mordecai dictated and was addressed to the satraps, governors, and officials of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, 127 provinces in all, to each province in its own script and each people in their own language, including the Jews in their script and language.

10Mardoqueu escreveu as cartas em nome do rei Xerxes, selou-as com o anel do rei e as enviou com os mensageiros montados em cavalos velozes, da cavalaria real.

10He wrote under the name of King Xerxes and sealed the order with the royal signet ring; he sent out the bulletins by couriers on horseback, riding the fastest royal steeds bred from the royal stud.

11Nessas cartas, o rei permitia aos judeus de cada cidade que se reunissem e se dispusessem para defender sua vida e para eliminar, matar e exterminar todas as forças armadas do povo e da província que os quisessem atacar, juntamente com suas mulheres e crianças, e que saqueassem os seus bens.

11The king's order authorized the Jews in every city to arm and defend themselves to the death, killing anyone who threatened them or their women and children, and confiscating for themselves anything owned by their enemies.

12O dia marcado para todas as províncias do rei Xerxes foi o décimo terceiro dia do décimo segundo mês, o mês de adar.

12The day set for this in all King Xerxes' provinces was the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar.

13Uma cópia da carta que seria divulgada como decreto em todas as províncias foi publicada entre todos os povos, para que os judeus estivessem preparados para aquele dia, a fim de se vingarem dos seus inimigos.

13The order was posted in public places in each province so everyone could read it, authorizing the Jews to be prepared on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

14Os mensageiros montados nos cavalos velozes da cavalaria real partiram apressadamente por causa da ordem do rei. O decreto foi proclamado também na cidadela de Susã.

14The couriers, fired up by the king's order, raced off on their royal horses. At the same time, the order was posted in the palace complex of Susa.

15Então Mardoqueu saiu da presença do rei, vestido de um traje real azul celeste e branco, trazendo uma grande coroa de ouro e um manto de linho fino e de púrpura. E a cidadela de Susã exultava de alegria.

15Mordecai walked out of the king's presence wearing a royal robe of violet and white, a huge gold crown, and a purple cape of fine linen. The city of Susa exploded with joy.

16E houve felicidade, alegria, júbilo e honra para os judeus.

16For Jews it was all sunshine and laughter: they celebrated, they were honored.

17Havia alegria e júbilo, com banquetes e festas, em cada província e em cada cidade e em todo lugar onde chegavam a ordem e o decreto do rei. E muitos dentre os outros povos se tornaram judeus, pois o temor dos judeus tinha-se apossado deles.

17It was that way all over the country, in every province, every city when the king's bulletin was posted: the Jews took to the streets in celebration, cheering, and feasting. Not only that, but many non-Jews became Jews—now it was dangerous not to be a Jew!
