1Se alguém roubar um boi, ou uma ovelha, e matar ou vender o animal, pagará cinco bois por um boi, e quatro ovelhas por uma ovelha.

1"If someone steals an ox or a lamb and slaughters or sells it, the thief must pay five cattle in place of the ox and four sheep in place of the lamb.

2Se um ladrão for pego arrombando uma casa, e for ferido mortalmente, aquele que o feriu não será culpado de derramar sangue;

2If the thief is caught while breaking in and is hit hard and dies, there is no bloodguilt.

3mas, se o sol já tiver nascido, aquele que o feriu será culpado de derramar sangue. O ladrão dará plena indenização. Se não possuir nada, será vendido por seu roubo.

3But if it happens after daybreak, there is bloodguilt."A thief must make full restitution for what is stolen. The thief who is unable to pay is to be sold for his thieving.

4Mas pagará o dobro, se o que foi roubado for achado vivo em seu poder, seja boi, seja jumento, seja ovelha.

4If caught red-handed with the stolen goods, and the ox or donkey or lamb is still alive, the thief pays double.

5Se alguém levar o seu animal para pastar num campo ou numa vinha e soltá-lo para pastar no campo de outra pessoa, indenizará com o melhor do seu próprio campo e da sua própria vinha.

5"If someone grazes livestock in a field or vineyard but lets them loose so they graze in someone else's field, restitution must be made from the best of the owner's field or vineyard.

6Se um fogo se alastrar pelos espinheiros e destruir o trigo colhido ou plantado, ou o que está no campo, aquele que acendeu o fogo dará plena indenização.

6"If fire breaks out and spreads to the brush so that the sheaves of grain or the standing grain or even the whole field is burned up, whoever started the fire must pay for the damages.

7Se alguém confiar ao seu próximo prata ou objetos para serem guardados, e isso for roubado de sua casa, o ladrão, se for achado, pagará o dobro.

7"If someone gives a neighbor money or things for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor's house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double.

8Se o ladrão não for achado, então o dono da casa irá à presença dos juízes para se verificar se não foi ele quem se apoderou dos bens do próximo.

8If the thief is not caught, the owner must be brought before God to determine whether the owner was the one who took the neighbor's goods.

9Em toda disputa, seja a respeito de boi, de jumento, de ovelhas, de roupas, ou de qualquer coisa perdida que alguém alegue ser sua, a causa de ambas as partes será levada diante dos juízes. Aquele a quem os juízes condenarem pagará o dobro ao seu próximo.

9"In all cases of stolen goods, whether oxen, donkeys, sheep, clothing, anything in fact missing of which someone says, 'That's mine,' both parties must come before the judges. The one the judges pronounce guilty must pay double to the other.

10Se alguém entregar um jumento, um boi, uma ovelha, ou qualquer outro animal, para seu próximo guardar, e o animal morrer, ou ficar aleijado ou for levado, sem testemunhas,

10"If someone gives a donkey or ox or lamb or any kind of animal to another for safekeeping and it dies or is injured or lost and there is no witness,

11então haverá o juramento do SENHOR entre ambos, para ver se o que guardava não se apropriou de algum bem do seu próximo. O dono aceitará o juramento, e o outro não fará indenização.

11an oath before God must be made between them to decide whether one has laid hands on the property of the other. The owner must accept this and no damages are assessed.

12Se, porém, o animal lhe tiver sido roubado, ele indenizará seu dono.

12But if it turns out it was stolen, the owner must be compensated.

13Se tiver sido dilacerado, ele o trará como prova e não dará indenização pelo dilacerado.

13If it has been torn by wild beasts, the torn animal must be brought in as evidence; no damages have to be paid.

14Se alguém pedir emprestado ao próximo algum animal, e este for ferido ou morrer na ausência do seu dono, dará plena indenização;

14"If someone borrows an animal from a neighbor and it gets injured or dies while the owner is not present, he must pay for it.

15se o dono estiver presente, o outro não dará indenização; se tiver sido alugado, o aluguel compensará qualquer prejuízo.

15But if the owner was with it, he doesn't have to pay. If the animal was hired, the payment covers the loss.

16Se alguém seduzir uma virgem ainda não comprometida, e deitar-se com ela, terá de pagar pelo dote e torná-la sua mulher.

16"If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the marriage price and marry her.

17Mas, se o pai dela recusar-se terminantemente a entregá-la, o homem pagará em prata o valor do dote das virgens.

17If her father absolutely refuses to give her away, the man must still pay the marriage price for virgins.

18Não permitirás que uma feiticeira viva.

19Todo aquele que tiver relações sexuais com animal certamente será morto.

21Não maltratarás o estrangeiro, nem o oprimirás, pois fostes estrangeiros na terra do Egito.

21"Don't abuse or take advantage of strangers; you, remember, were once strangers in Egypt.

22Não tratarás mal nenhuma viúva nem órfão.

22"Don't mistreat widows or orphans.

23Se de algum modo os tratares mal, e eles clamarem a mim, eu certamente ouvirei o seu clamor;

23If you do and they cry out to me, you can be sure I'll take them most seriously;

24e a minha ira se acenderá, e vos matarei ao fio da espada; vossas mulheres ficarão viúvas, e vossos filhos, órfãos.

24I'll show my anger and come raging among you with the sword, and your wives will end up widows and your children orphans.

25Se emprestares dinheiro a alguém do meu povo, ao pobre que vive perto de ti, não agirás com ele como credor, cobrando juros.

25"If you lend money to my people, to any of the down-and-out among you, don't come down hard on them and gouge them with interest.

26Se tomares como penhor o manto do teu próximo, tu o restituirás a ele antes do pôr do sol,

26"If you take your neighbor's coat as security, give it back before nightfall;

27pois é a única coberta que tem, é a roupa do seu corpo. Em que ele se deitaria? Portanto, quando clamar a mim, eu o ouvirei, pois sou misericordioso.

27it may be your neighbor's only covering—what else does the person have to sleep in? And if I hear the neighbor crying out from the cold, I'll step in—I'm compassionate.

28Não dirás maldição contra os juízes, nem amaldiçoarás o líder do teu povo.

29Não adiarás a entrega das ofertas da tua colheita e do teu lagar. Dedicarás a mim o primogênito de teus filhos.

29"Don't be stingy as your wine vats fill up."Dedicate your firstborn sons to me.

30E assim farás com os teus bois e com as tuas ovelhas: a cria ficará com a mãe sete dias; no oitavo dia, tu a entregarás a mim.

30The same with your cattle and sheep—they are to stay for seven days with their mother, then give them to me.

31Sede homens santos para comigo. Portanto, não comais carne de animal despedaçado por feras no campo; ela será jogada aos cães.

31"Be holy for my sake."Don't eat mutilated flesh you find in the fields; throw it to the dogs.
