1O SENHOR disse a Moisés: Sai deste lugar, tu e o povo que tiraste da terra do Egito, e vai para a terra a respeito da qual jurei a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó, dizendo: Eu a darei à tua descendência.

1God said to Moses: "Now go. Get on your way from here, you and the people you brought up from the land of Egypt. Head for the land which I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying 'I will give it to your descendants.'

2Enviarei um anjo à tua frente e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os heteus, os perizeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.

2I will send an angel ahead of you and I'll drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

3Vai para uma terra que dá leite e mel. Mas não irei no meio de ti, para que eu não te destrua no caminho, porque és um povo muito obstinado.

3It's a land flowing with milk and honey. But I won't be with you in person—you're such a stubborn, hard-headed people!—lest I destroy you on the journey."

4Quando o povo ouviu esta má notícia, começou a chorar, e nenhum deles usou adornos.

4When the people heard this harsh verdict, they were plunged into gloom and wore long faces. No one put on jewelry.

5Pois o SENHOR tinha dito a Moisés: Dize aos israelitas: És um povo muito obstinado. Se eu subisse no meio de ti por um só momento, te destruiria. Portanto, tira agora os teus adornos, para que eu decida o que farei a ti.

5God said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites, 'You're one hard-headed people. I couldn't stand being with you for even a moment—I'd destroy you. So take off all your jewelry until I figure out what to do with you.' "

6Então os israelitas tiraram os seus adornos, desde o monte Horebe em diante.

6So the Israelites stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb on.

7Moisés costumava pegar a tenda e armá-la fora, bem longe do acampamento, e chamou-a de tenda da revelação. Todo aquele que buscava o SENHOR ia à tenda da revelação, fora do acampamento.

7Moses used to take the Tent and set it up outside the camp, some distance away. He called it the Tent of Meeting. Anyone who sought God would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.

8Quando Moisés ia à tenda, todo o povo se levantava; cada um ficava em pé na entrada da sua tenda e contemplava Moisés pelas costas, até que ele entrasse na tenda.

8It went like this: When Moses would go to the Tent, all the people would stand at attention; each man would take his position at the entrance to his tent with his eyes on Moses until he entered the Tent;

9E quando Moisés entrava na tenda, a coluna de nuvem descia e ficava à entrada da tenda; e o SENHOR falava com Moisés.

9whenever Moses entered the Tent, the Pillar of Cloud descended to the entrance to the Tent and God spoke with Moses.

10E todo o povo via a coluna de nuvem que estava à entrada da tenda, e todo o povo, levantando-se, adorava, cada um na entrada da sua tenda.

10All the people would see the Pillar of Cloud at the entrance to the Tent, stand at attention, and then bow down in worship, each man at the entrance to his tent.

11E o SENHOR falava com Moisés face a face, como quem fala com seu amigo. Em seguida, Moisés voltava para o acampamento; mas seu auxiliar, o jovem Josué, filho de Num, não se distanciava da tenda.

11And God spoke with Moses face-to-face, as neighbors speak to one another. When he would return to the camp, his attendant, the young man Joshua, stayed—he didn't leave the Tent.

12E Moisés disse ao SENHOR: Tu me dizes que eu faça subir este povo, mas não me mostras quem enviarás comigo. Disseste também: Conheço-te por teu nome e achaste favor aos meus olhos.

12Moses said to God, "Look, you tell me, 'Lead this people,' but you don't let me know whom you're going to send with me. You tell me, 'I know you well and you are special to me.'

13Se achei favor aos teus olhos, rogo-te que agora me mostres os teus caminhos, para que eu te conheça, a fim de que continue a achar favor aos teus olhos; e considera que esta nação é teu povo.
MSG
13If I am so special to you, let me in on your plans. That way, I will continue being special to you. Don't forget, this is your people, your responsibility."

14O SENHOR respondeu-lhe: Eu mesmo irei contigo e te darei descanso.
MSG
14God said, "My presence will go with you. I'll see the journey to the end."
AS21
15Então Moisés lhe disse: Se tu mesmo não fores conosco, não nos faças subir daqui.
MSG
15Moses said, "If your presence doesn't take the lead here, call this trip off right now.
AS21
16Como saber que achei favor aos teus olhos, eu e o teu povo? Por acaso não é por andares conosco, para que sejamos separados, eu e o teu povo, de todos os povos da face da terra?
MSG
16How else will it be known that you're with me in this, with me and your people? Are you traveling with us or not? How else will we know that we're special, I and your people, among all other people on this planet Earth?"

17Então o SENHOR disse a Moisés: Farei também isso que pediste, pois achaste favor aos meus olhos, e te conheço pelo nome.

17God said to Moses: "All right. Just as you say; this also I will do, for I know you well and you are special to me. I know you by name."
AS21
18Moisés disse ainda: Rogo-te que me mostres tua glória.
MSG
18Moses said, "Please. Let me see your Glory."
AS21
19E o SENHOR lhe respondeu: Farei passar toda a minha bondade diante de ti e te proclamarei o meu nome, o SENHOR; e terei misericórdia de quem eu quiser ter misericórdia, e me compadecerei de quem eu quiser me compadecer.

19God said, "I will make my Goodness pass right in front of you; I'll call out the name, God, right before you. I'll treat well whomever I want to treat well and I'll be kind to whomever I want to be kind."

20E disse mais: Não poderás ver a minha face, porque homem nenhum pode ver a minha face e viver.
MSG
20God continued, "But you may not see my face. No one can see me and live."

21O SENHOR prosseguiu: Aqui está um lugar próximo de mim; ficarás aqui, sobre a rocha.
MSG
21God said, "Look, here is a place right beside me. Put yourself on this rock.
AS21
22Quando a minha glória passar, eu te colocarei numa fenda da rocha, e te cobrirei com a minha mão, até que eu tenha passado.
MSG
22When my Glory passes by, I'll put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with my hand until I've passed by.
AS21
23Depois, quando eu tirar a mão, verás as minhas costas; mas não se verá a minha face.
MSG
23Then I'll take my hand away and you'll see my back. But you won't see my face."
