1Depois dessas coisas, sucedeu que Deus provou Abraão, dizendo-lhe: Abraão! E ele respondeu: Estou aqui.

1After all this, God tested Abraham. God said, "Abraham!""Yes?" answered Abraham. "I'm listening."

2E Deus prosseguiu: Toma agora teu filho, o teu único filho, Isaque, a quem amas; vai à terra de Moriá e oferece-o ali em holocausto sobre um dos montes que te mostrarei.

2He said, "Take your dear son Isaac whom you love and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I'll point out to you."

3Abraão levantou-se de manhã cedo, preparou o seu jumento e tomou dois de seus servos e Isaque, seu filho; e, tendo cortado lenha para o holocausto, partiu para o lugar que Deus lhe havia mostrado.

3Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. He took two of his young servants and his son Isaac. He had split wood for the burnt offering. He set out for the place God had directed him.

4Ao terceiro dia Abraão levantou os olhos e viu o lugar de longe.

4On the third day he looked up and saw the place in the distance.

5Então Abraão disse a seus servos: Ficai aqui com o jumento; eu e o moço iremos até lá e, depois de adorar, voltaremos.

5Abraham told his two young servants, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I are going over there to worship; then we'll come back to you."

6Abraão pegou a lenha do holocausto e colocou-a sobre Isaque, seu filho; levou também o fogo e a faca; e foram caminhando juntos.

6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and gave it to Isaac his son to carry. He carried the flint and the knife. The two of them went off together.

7Então Isaque disse a Abraão, seu pai: Meu pai! Respondeu Abraão: Estou aqui, meu filho! Isaque perguntou: O fogo e a lenha estão aqui, mas onde está o cordeiro para o holocausto?

7Isaac said to Abraham his father, "Father?""Yes, my son.""We have flint and wood, but where's the sheep for the burnt offering?"

8Abraão respondeu: Meu filho, Deus mesmo proverá o cordeiro para o holocausto. E os dois iam caminhando juntos.

8Abraham said, "Son, God will see to it that there's a sheep for the burnt offering." And they kept on walking together.

9Tendo eles chegado ao lugar que Deus havia mostrado a Abraão, este edificou o altar e arrumou a lenha; depois amarrou seu filho Isaque e o colocou em cima do altar, sobre a lenha.

9They arrived at the place to which God had directed him. Abraham built an altar. He laid out the wood. Then he tied up Isaac and laid him on the wood.

10E, estendendo a mão, pegou a faca para imolar o filho.

10Abraham reached out and took the knife to kill his son.

11Mas o anjo do SENHOR bradou desde o céu: Abraão, Abraão! Ele respondeu: Estou aqui.

11Just then an angel of God called to him out of Heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!""Yes, I'm listening."

12Então o anjo disse: Não estendas a mão contra o moço, não lhe faças nada, pois agora sei que temes a Deus, visto que não me negaste teu filho, teu único filho.

12"Don't lay a hand on that boy! Don't touch him! Now I know how fearlessly you fear God; you didn't hesitate to place your son, your dear son, on the altar for me."

13Então Abraão levantou os olhos e viu atrás de si um carneiro preso no mato pelos chifres; Abraão foi, pegou o carneiro e o ofereceu em holocausto no lugar de seu filho.

13Abraham looked up. He saw a ram caught by its horns in the thicket. Abraham took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

14Por isso Abraão chamou àquele lugar Jeová-Jiré, pelo que se diz até o dia de hoje: No monte do SENHOR se proverá.

14Abraham named that place God-Yireh (God-Sees-to-It). That's where we get the saying, "On the mountain of God, he sees to it."

15Então o anjo do SENHOR bradou a Abraão pela segunda vez desde o céu:

15The angel of God spoke from Heaven a second time to Abraham:

16Por mim mesmo jurei, diz o SENHOR, porque fizeste isso e não me negaste teu filho, teu único filho,

16"I swear—God's sure word!—because you have gone through with this, and have not refused to give me your son, your dear, dear son,

17que com certeza te abençoarei e multiplicarei grandemente a tua descendência, como as estrelas do céu e como a areia na praia do mar; e a tua descendência dominará a cidade dos seus inimigos;

17I'll bless you—oh, how I'll bless you! And I'll make sure that your children flourish—like stars in the sky! like sand on the beaches! And your descendants will defeat their enemies.

18e todas as nações da terra serão abençoadas por meio da tua descendência, pois obedeceste à minha voz.

18All nations on Earth will find themselves blessed through your descendants because you obeyed me."

19Então Abraão voltou para seus servos e, levantando-se, seguiram juntos para Berseba, onde Abraão passou a habitar.

19Then Abraham went back to his young servants. They got things together and returned to Beersheba. Abraham settled down in Beersheba.

20Depois dessas coisas anunciaram a Abraão: Milca também deu à luz filhos de Naor, teu irmão:

20After all this, Abraham got the news: "Your brother Nahor is a father! Milcah has given him children:

21Uz, seu primogênito, Buz, seu irmão, Quemuel, pai de Arão,

21Uz, his firstborn, his brother Buz, Kemuel (he was the father of Aram),

22Quesede, Hazo, Pildas, Jidlafe e Betuel.

22Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."

23E Betuel gerou Rebeca. Milca deu à luz esses oito filhos de Naor, irmão de Abraão.

23(Bethuel was the father of Rebekah.) Milcah gave these eight sons to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

24E a sua concubina, que se chamava Reumá, também deu à luz Teba, Gaão, Taás e Maacá.

24His concubine, Reumah, gave him four more children: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
