1Ora, a serpente era o mais astuto de todos os animais do campo que o SENHOR Deus havia feito. E ela disse à mulher: Foi assim que Deus disse: Não comereis de nenhuma árvore do jardim?

1The serpent was clever, more clever than any wild animal God had made. He spoke to the Woman: "Do I understand that God told you not to eat from any tree in the garden?"

2Respondeu a mulher à serpente: Do fruto das árvores do jardim podemos comer,

2The Woman said to the serpent, "Not at all. We can eat from the trees in the garden.

3mas do fruto da árvore que está no meio do jardim, disse Deus: Não comereis dele, nem nele tocareis; se o fizerdes, morrereis.

3It's only about the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, 'Don't eat from it; don't even touch it or you'll die.' "

4Disse a serpente à mulher: Com certeza, não morrereis.

4The serpent told the Woman, "You won't die.

5Na verdade, Deus sabe que no dia em que comerdes desse fruto, vossos olhos se abrirão, e sereis como Deus, conhecendo o bem e o mal.

5God knows that the moment you eat from that tree, you'll see what's really going on. You'll be just like God, knowing everything, ranging all the way from good to evil."

6Então, vendo a mulher que a árvore era boa para dela comer, agradável aos olhos e desejável para dar entendimento, tomou do seu fruto, comeu e deu dele a seu marido, que também comeu.

6When the Woman saw that the tree looked like good eating and realized what she would get out of it—she'd know everything!—she took and ate the fruit and then gave some to her husband, and he ate.

7Então os olhos dos dois foram abertos e ficaram sabendo que estavam nus; por isso, entrelaçaram folhas de figueira e fizeram para si aventais.

7Immediately the two of them did "see what's really going on"—saw themselves naked! They sewed fig leaves together as makeshift clothes for themselves.

8Ao ouvirem a voz do SENHOR Deus, que andava pelo jardim no final da tarde, o homem e sua mulher esconderam-se da presença do SENHOR Deus, entre as árvores do jardim.

8When they heard the sound of God strolling in the garden in the evening breeze, the Man and his Wife hid in the trees of the garden, hid from God.

9Mas o SENHOR Deus chamou o homem, perguntando: Onde estás?

9God called to the Man: "Where are you?"

10O homem respondeu: Ouvi a tua voz no jardim e tive medo, porque estava nu; por isso me escondi.
MSG
10He said, "I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked. And I hid."

11Deus perguntou-lhe outra vez: Quem te mostrou que estavas nu? Comeste da árvore da qual te ordenei que não comesses?

11God said, "Who told you you were naked? Did you eat from that tree I told you not to eat from?"

12Respondeu então o homem: A mulher que me deste deu-me da árvore, e eu comi.
MSG
12The Man said, "The Woman you gave me as a companion, she gave me fruit from the tree, and, yes, I ate it."

13E o SENHOR Deus perguntou à mulher: Que foi que fizeste? E ela respondeu: A serpente me enganou, e eu comi.

13God said to the Woman, "What is this that you've done?""The serpent seduced me," she said, "and I ate."

14Então o SENHOR Deus disse à serpente: Porque fizeste isso, serás maldita entre todo o gado e entre todos os animais do campo; andarás sobre o teu ventre e comerás pó todos os dias da tua vida.

14God told the serpent:"Because you've done this, you're cursed,cursed beyond all cattle and wild animals,Cursed to slink on your bellyand eat dirt all your life.

15Porei inimizade entre ti e a mulher, entre a tua descendência e a descendência dela; esta te ferirá a cabeça, e tu lhe ferirás o calcanhar.

15I'm declaring war between you and the Woman,between your offspring and hers.He'll wound your head,you'll wound his heel."

16E disse para a mulher: Multiplicarei grandemente a tua dor na gravidez; com dor darás à luz filhos; o teu desejo será para o teu marido, e ele te dominará.

16He told the Woman:"I'll multiply your pains in childbirth;you'll give birth to your babies in pain.You'll want to please your husband,but he'll lord it over you."

17E disse para o homem: Porque deste ouvidos à voz da tua mulher e comeste da árvore da qual te ordenei: Não comerás dela; maldita é a terra por tua causa; com sofrimento comerás dela todos os dias da tua vida.

17He told the Man:"Because you listened to your wifeand ate from the treeThat I commanded you not to eat from,'Don't eat from this tree,'The very ground is cursed because of you;getting food from the groundWill be as painful as having babies is for your wife;you'll be working in pain all your life long.

18Ela te produzirá espinhos e ervas daninhas; e terás de comer das plantas do campo.

18The ground will sprout thorns and weeds,you'll get your food the hard way,Planting and tilling and harvesting,

19Do suor do teu rosto comerás o teu pão, até que tornes à terra, pois dela foste tirado; porque és pó, e ao pó tornarás.

19sweating in the fields from dawn to dusk,Until you return to that ground yourself, dead and buried;you started out as dirt, you'll end up dirt."

20Adão chamou Eva à sua mulher, porque ela foi a mãe de todo vivente.

20The Man, known as Adam, named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living.

21E o SENHOR Deus fez roupas de peles para Adão e sua mulher, e os vestiu.

21God made leather clothing for Adam and his wife and dressed them.

22Então disse o SENHOR Deus: Agora o homem tornou-se como um de nós e conhece o bem e o mal. Não suceda que estenda a mão e tome também da árvore da vida, coma e viva eternamente.

22God said, "The Man has become like one of us, capable of knowing everything, ranging from good to evil. What if he now should reach out and take fruit from the Tree-of-Life and eat, and live forever? Never—this cannot happen!"

23Por isso, o SENHOR Deus o mandou para fora do jardim do Éden, para cultivar o solo, do qual fora tirado.

23So God expelled them from the Garden of Eden and sent them to work the ground, the same dirt out of which they'd been made.

24E havendo expulsado o homem, pôs a leste do jardim do Éden os querubins e uma espada flamejante que se revolvia por todos os lados, para guardar o caminho da árvore da vida.
MSG
24He threw them out of the garden and stationed angel-cherubim and a revolving sword of fire east of it, guarding the path to the Tree-of-Life.
