1Ó ilhas, ouvi-me, e escutai vós, povos de longe: O SENHOR chamou-me desde que nasci, fez menção do meu nome desde o ventre de minha mãe

1Listen, far-flung islands,pay attention, faraway people:God put me to work from the day I was born.The moment I entered the world he named me.

2e fez a minha boca como uma espada afiada; escondeu-me sob a sombra da sua mão; fez-me como uma flecha polida e me encobriu na sua aljava;

2He gave me speech that would cut and penetrate.He kept his hand on me to protect me.He made me his straight arrowand hid me in his quiver.

3e me disse: Tu és meu servo; és Israel, por quem serei glorificado.

3He said to me, "You're my dear servant,Israel, through whom I'll shine."

4Mas eu disse: Tenho trabalhado à toa, gastei as minhas forças em vão e inutilmente; entretanto, o meu direito está diante do SENHOR, e a minha recompensa, diante do meu Deus.

4But I said, "I've worked for nothing.I've nothing to show for a life of hard work.Nevertheless, I'll let God have the last word.I'll let him pronounce his verdict."

5E agora diz o SENHOR, que me formou desde o ventre para ser o seu servo, para tornar a trazer-lhe Jacó e para reunir Israel a ele, pois sou honrado aos olhos do SENHOR, e o meu Deus tem sido a minha força.

5"And now," God says,this God who took me in handfrom the moment of birth to be his servant,To bring Jacob back home to him,to set a reunion for Israel—What an honor for me in God's eyes!That God should be my strength!

6Ele diz: Não basta que sejas o meu servo para restaurares as tribos de Jacó e trazeres de volta os remanescentes de Israel. Também te porei para luz das nações, para seres a minha salvação até a extremidade da terra.

6He says, "But that's not a big enough job for my servant—just to recover the tribes of Jacob,merely to round up the strays of Israel.I'm setting you up as a light for the nationsso that my salvation becomes global!"

7Assim diz o SENHOR, o Redentor, o Santo de Israel, ao desprezado, ao rejeitado das nações, ao servo dos tiranos: Os reis, como também os príncipes, o verão e se levantarão, e eles te adorarão, por amor do SENHOR, que é fiel, e do Santo de Israel, que te escolheu.

7God, Redeemer of Israel, The Holy of Israel,says to the despised one, kicked around by the nations,slave labor to the ruling class:"Kings will see, get to their feet—the princes, too—and then fall on their faces in homageBecause of God, who has faithfully kept his word,The Holy of Israel, who has chosen you."

8Assim diz o SENHOR: Eu te ouvi no tempo aceitável e te ajudei no dia da salvação; eu te guardarei e te farei mediador da aliança com o povo, para restaurares a terra e lhe dares por herança as propriedades destruídas;

8God also says:"When the time's ripe, I answer you.When victory's due, I help you.I form you and use youto reconnect the people with me,To put the land in order,to resettle families on the ruined properties.

9para dizeres aos presos: Saí; e aos que estão nas trevas: Aparecei. E les pastarão nos caminhos e acharão pastos em todas as colinas sem vegetação.

9I tell prisoners, 'Come on out. You're free!'and those huddled in fear, 'It's all right. It's safe now.'There'll be foodstands along all the roads,picnics on all the hills—

10Nunca sentirão fome nem sede; nem o calor do deserto nem o sol os afligirá; porque o que se compadece deles os guiará e os conduzirá mansamente aos mananciais das águas.

12Estes virão de longe, e aqueles do norte e do ocidente, e os outros da terra de Sinim.

13Ó céus, cantai; exulta, ó terra; e vós, montes, exultai de alegria, porque o SENHOR consolou o seu povo e se compadeceu dos seus aflitos.

13Heavens, raise the roof! Earth, wake the dead!Mountains, send up cheers!God has comforted his people.He has tenderly nursed his beaten-up, beaten-down people.

14Mas Sião diz: O SENHOR me desamparou, o meu Senhor se esqueceu de mim.

14But Zion said, "I don't get it. God has left me.My Master has forgotten I even exist."

15Pode uma mulher esquecer-se do filho que ainda amamenta, a ponto de não se compadecer do filho do seu ventre? Mas ainda que ela se esquecesse, eu não me esquecerei de ti.

15"Can a mother forget the infant at her breast,walk away from the baby she bore?But even if mothers forget,I'd never forget you—never.

16Eu te gravei na palma das minhas mãos; os teus muros estão sempre diante de mim.

16Look, I've written your names on the backs of my hands.The walls you're rebuilding are never out of my sight.

17Os teus filhos voltarão depressa; mas os teus destruidores e os teus assoladores fugirão de ti.

17Your builders are faster than your wreckers.The demolition crews are gone for good.

18Levanta os olhos ao redor e olha; todos estes que se ajuntam vêm a ti. Tão certo quanto eu vivo, diz o SENHOR, te vestirás de todos eles, como se fossem um enfeite, e como uma noiva te adornarás deles.

18Look up, look around, look well!See them all gathering, coming to you?As sure as I am the living God"—God's Decree—"you're going to put them on like so much jewelry,you're going to use them to dress up like a bride.

19Quanto aos teus desertos e lugares desolados, e à tua terra destruída, serás agora pequena demais para os moradores, e os que te devoravam se distanciarão de ti.

19"And your ruined land?Your devastated, decimated land?Filled with more people than you know what to do with!And your barbarian enemies, a fading memory.

20Os filhos que perdeste ainda dirão aos teus ouvidos: Este lugar é muito pequeno para mim; dá-me um espaço maior para morar.

20The children born in your exile will be saying,'It's getting too crowded here. I need more room.'

21Então dirás no coração: Quem gerou estes filhos para mim, visto que eu era estéril e solitária, exilada e errante? Quem os criou para mim? Fui deixada sozinha; onde eles estavam?

21And you'll say to yourself,'Where on earth did these children come from?I lost everything, had nothing, was exiled and penniless.So who reared these children?How did these children get here?' "

22Assim diz o SENHOR Deus: Eu acenarei para as nações e levantarei a minha bandeira aos povos; então eles trarão os teus filhos nos braços, e as tuas filhas serão levadas sobre os ombros.

22The Master, God, says:"Look! I signal to the nations,I raise my flag to summon the people.Here they'll come: women carrying your little boys in their arms,men carrying your little girls on their shoulders.

23Os teus guias serão reis, e tuas amas serão rainhas; eles se inclinarão diante de ti com o rosto em terra e lamberão o pó dos teus pés; saberás que eu sou o SENHOR e que os que esperam por mim não se frustrarão.

23Kings will be your babysitters,princesses will be your nursemaids.They'll offer to do all your drudge work—scrub your floors, do your laundry.You'll know then that I am God.No one who hopes in me ever regrets it."

24Por acaso será possível tirar o despojo do guerreiro? Os cativos serão libertos do tirano?

24Can plunder be retrieved from a giant,prisoners of war gotten back from a tyrant?

25Mas assim diz o SENHOR: Certamente os prisioneiros serão tirados do guerreiro, e a presa será liberta do tirano; porque eu lutarei com os que lutam contra ti e salvarei os teus filhos.

25But God says, "Even if a giant grips the plunderand a tyrant holds my people prisoner,I'm the one who's on your side,defending your cause, rescuing your children.

26E darei aos teus opressores a carne deles próprios, e eles se embriagarão com o próprio sangue, como se fosse vinho; e todos saberão que eu sou o SENHOR, o teu Salvador e o teu Redentor, o Poderoso de Jacó.

26And your enemies, crazed and desperate, will turn on themselves,killing each other in a frenzy of self-destruction.Then everyone will know that I, God,have saved you—I, the Mighty One of Jacob."
