1Meus olhos viram tudo isso, e meus ouvidos ouviram e entenderam.

1All this my eye has seen;my ear has heard and perceived it.

2O que sabeis eu também sei; não sou inferior a vós.

2What you know, I also know; I do not fall short of you.

3Mas falarei com o Todo-poderoso, quero defender-me diante de Deus.
NABRE
3But I would speak with the Almighty; I want to argue with God.

4Vós, porém, maquinais mentiras, e sois todos médicos que não servem para nada.
NABRE
4But you gloss over falsehoods,you are worthless physicians, every one of you!

5Ah! Antes ficásseis totalmente calados, pois assim passaríeis por sábios.
NABRE
5Oh, that you would be altogether silent;that for you would be wisdom!

6Ouvi agora a minha defesa e escutai os argumentos dos meus lábios.

6Hear now my argumentand listen to the accusations from my lips.

7Falareis com falsidade em nome de Deus, e em nome dele direis mentiras?
NABRE
7Is it for God that you speak falsehood?Is it for him that you utter deceit?

8Defendereis a sua pessoa? Disputareis a favor de Deus?
NABRE
8Is it for him that you show partiality?Do you make accusations on behalf of God?

9Seria bom para vós se ele vos examinasse? Poderíes enganá-lo, como se faz com um homem?
NABRE
9Will it be well when he shall search you out?Can you deceive him as you do a mere human being?

10Certamente ele vos repreenderá, se em secreto tiverdes parcialidade.

10He will openly rebuke youif in secret you show partiality.

11A majestade de Deus não os intimidará? E não cairá sobre vós o seu terror?

11Surely his majesty will frighten youand dread of him fall upon you.

12As vossas máximas são como provérbios de cinza; as vossas defesas como torres de barro.

12Your reminders are ashy maxims,your fabrications mounds of clay.

13Calai-vos diante mim, para que eu fale, e que venha sobre mim o que vier.

13Be silent! Let me alone that I may speak,no matter what happens to me.

14Por que me destruo e tomo a vida em minhas próprias mãos?

14I will carry my flesh between my teeth,and take my life in my hand.

15Ele poderá matar-me; mas não tenho outra saída! Contudo, defenderei meus caminhos diante dele.

15Slay me though he might, I will wait for him; I will defend my conduct before him.

16Isso também será a minha salvação, pois o ímpio não se apresentará diante dele.

16This shall be my salvation:no impious man can come into his presence.

17Ouvi atentamente as minhas palavras; chegue aos vossos ouvidos a minha declaração.

17Pay close attention to my speech,give my statement a hearing.

18Já preparei a minha defesa e sei que serei justificado.

18Behold, I have prepared my case, I know that I am in the right.

19Quem iria disputar comigo? Nesse caso, eu me calaria e entregaria meu espírito.

19If anyone can make a case against me,then I shall be silent and expire.

20Concede-me somente duas coisas; então não me esconderei do teu rosto:

20Two things only do not use against me, then from your presence I need not hide:

21Afasta a tua mão para bem longe de mim, e não me amedronte mais o teu terror.

21Withdraw your hand far from me,do not let the terror of you frighten me.

22Então responderei quando me chamares; ou falarei, e tu me responderás.

22Then call me, and I will respond;or let me speak first, and answer me.

23Quantas iniquidades e pecados eu tenho? Mostra-me a minha transgressão e o meu pecado.

23What are my faults and my sins?My misdeed, my sin make known to me!

24Por que escondes o rosto e me consideras teu inimigo?

24Why do you hide your faceand consider me your enemy?

25Atormentarás uma folha levada pelo vento? Perseguirás a palha seca?

25Will you harass a wind-driven leafor pursue a withered straw?

26Pois escreves contra mim coisas amargas e me fazes herdar os erros da minha mocidade;

26For you draw up bitter indictments against me,and punish in me the faults of my youth.

27tu também pões os meus pés no tronco e sondas todos os meus caminhos; traças um limite ao redor dos meus pés,

27You put my feet in the stocks;you watch all my pathsand trace out all my footsteps,

28apesar de eu ser como algo podre que se deteriora e como uma roupa destruída pela traça.

28Though I wear out like a leather bottle,like a garment the moth has consumed.
