1Meus olhos viram tudo isso, e meus ouvidos ouviram e entenderam.

1“My eyes have seen all this, my ears have heard and understood it.

2O que sabeis eu também sei; não sou inferior a vós.

2What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you.

3Mas falarei com o Todo-poderoso, quero defender-me diante de Deus.

3But I desire to speak to the Almighty and to argue my case with God.

4Vós, porém, maquinais mentiras, e sois todos médicos que não servem para nada.

4You, however, smear me with lies; you are worthless physicians, all of you!

5Ah! Antes ficásseis totalmente calados, pois assim passaríeis por sábios.

5If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.

6Ouvi agora a minha defesa e escutai os argumentos dos meus lábios.

6Hear now my argument; listen to the pleas of my lips.

7Falareis com falsidade em nome de Deus, e em nome dele direis mentiras?

7Will you speak wickedly on God’s behalf? Will you speak deceitfully for him?

8Defendereis a sua pessoa? Disputareis a favor de Deus?

8Will you show him partiality? Will you argue the case for God?

9Seria bom para vós se ele vos examinasse? Poderíes enganá-lo, como se faz com um homem?

9Would it turn out well if he examined you? Could you deceive him as you might deceive a mortal?

10Certamente ele vos repreenderá, se em secreto tiverdes parcialidade.

10He would surely call you to account if you secretly showed partiality.

11A majestade de Deus não os intimidará? E não cairá sobre vós o seu terror?

11Would not his splendor terrify you? Would not the dread of him fall on you?

12As vossas máximas são como provérbios de cinza; as vossas defesas como torres de barro.

12Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.

13Calai-vos diante mim, para que eu fale, e que venha sobre mim o que vier.

13“Keep silent and let me speak; then let come to me what may.

14Por que me destruo e tomo a vida em minhas próprias mãos?

14Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands?

15Ele poderá matar-me; mas não tenho outra saída! Contudo, defenderei meus caminhos diante dele.

15Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.

16Isso também será a minha salvação, pois o ímpio não se apresentará diante dele.

16Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless person would dare come before him!

17Ouvi atentamente as minhas palavras; chegue aos vossos ouvidos a minha declaração.

17Listen carefully to what I say; let my words ring in your ears.

18Já preparei a minha defesa e sei que serei justificado.

18Now that I have prepared my case, I know I will be vindicated.

19Quem iria disputar comigo? Nesse caso, eu me calaria e entregaria meu espírito.

19Can anyone bring charges against me? If so, I will be silent and die.

20Concede-me somente duas coisas; então não me esconderei do teu rosto:

20“Only grant me these two things, God, and then I will not hide from you:

21Afasta a tua mão para bem longe de mim, e não me amedronte mais o teu terror.

21Withdraw your hand far from me, and stop frightening me with your terrors.

22Então responderei quando me chamares; ou falarei, e tu me responderás.

22Then summon me and I will answer, or let me speak, and you reply to me.

23Quantas iniquidades e pecados eu tenho? Mostra-me a minha transgressão e o meu pecado.

23How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin.

24Por que escondes o rosto e me consideras teu inimigo?

24Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?

25Atormentarás uma folha levada pelo vento? Perseguirás a palha seca?

25Will you torment a windblown leaf? Will you chase after dry chaff?

26Pois escreves contra mim coisas amargas e me fazes herdar os erros da minha mocidade;

26For you write down bitter things against me and make me reap the sins of my youth.

27tu também pões os meus pés no tronco e sondas todos os meus caminhos; traças um limite ao redor dos meus pés,

27You fasten my feet in shackles; you keep close watch on all my paths by putting marks on the soles of my feet.

28apesar de eu ser como algo podre que se deteriora e como uma roupa destruída pela traça.

28“So man wastes away like something rotten, like a garment eaten by moths.
