1Então Jó respondeu:

1Then Job answered,

2Até hoje a minha queixa é cheia de amargura; o peso da mão dele é maior que o meu gemido.

2“Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

3Ah, se eu soubesse onde encontrá-lo, e pudesse chegar ao seu tribunal!

3Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

4Exporia a minha causa diante dele e encheria a boca de argumentos.

4I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5Aprenderia com as palavras de sua resposta e entenderia o que me dissesse.

5I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.

6Acaso iria ele disputar comigo na grandeza do seu poder? Não! Ele me daria ouvidos.

6Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.

7Ali o correto pleitearia com ele, e eu seria absolvido para sempre por meu Juiz.

7There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

8Vou adiante, ele não está ali; volto-me para trás, não o encontro;

8“If I go east, he is not there; if west, I can’t find him;

9procuro-o à esquerda, onde ele age, mas não o vejo; viro-me para a direita e não o enxergo.

9He works to the north, but I can’t see him. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.

10Mas ele sabe o caminho por onde ando; se me colocasse à prova, sairia como o ouro.

10But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come out like gold.

11Os meus pés se mantiveram nas suas pisadas; guardei o seu caminho e não me desviei dele.

11My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.

12Nunca me afastei do preceito dos seus lábios e escondi no peito as palavras da sua boca.

12I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

13Mas ele já resolveu! Quem então pode desviá-lo? Ele fará o que quiser.

13But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.

14Pois cumprirá o que está ordenado a meu respeito, e muitas coisas como essas ainda tem consigo.

14For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.

15Por isso, perturbo-me diante dele; quando penso nisso, sinto medo dele.

15Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him.

16Deus fez desmaiar o meu coração. O Todo-poderoso me perturbou.

16For God has made my heart faint. The Almighty has terrified me.

17Pois não estou desfalecido por causa das trevas, nem porque a escuridão cobre o meu rosto.

17Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
