13Por que razão disputas com ele por não prestar contas dos seus atos?

13So how dare you haul him into court,and then complain that he won't answer your charges?

14Pois Deus fala de um modo, e se o homem não lhe atende, fala de outro.

14God always answers, one way or another,even when people don't recognize his presence.

15Em sonho ou em visão de noite, quando o sono profundo cai sobre os homens, quando dormem no leito;

15"In a dream, for instance, a vision at night,when men and women are deep in sleep,fast asleep in their beds—

16então abre os ouvidos dos homens, e os atemoriza com advertências,

16God opens their earsand impresses them with warnings

17para afastar o homem do seu desígnio e dele tirar a soberba,

17To turn them back from something bad they're planning,from some reckless choice,

18para poupar a sua alma da cova, e a sua vida, de passar pela espada.

18And keep them from an early grave,from the river of no return.

19Também é castigado na sua cama com dores e constante agonia nos ossos;

19"Or, God might get their attention through pain,by throwing them on a bed of suffering,

20de modo que a sua vida rejeita o alimento, e a sua alma, a comida saborosa.

20So they can't stand the sight of food,have no appetite for their favorite treats.

21They lose weight, wasting away to nothing,reduced to a bag of bones.

22A sua alma se aproxima da cova, e a sua vida, dos que trazem a morte.

22They hang on the cliff-edge of death,knowing the next breath may be their last.

26Ele orará a Deus, que lhe será propício, e o fará ver a face de Deus com júbilo, e restituirá ao homem a sua justiça.

26"Or, you may fall on your knees and pray—to God's delight!You'll see God's smile and celebrate,finding yourself set right with God.

27Cantará diante dos homens e dirá: Pequei, e torci a justiça, mas não fui punido.

27You'll sing God's praises to everyone you meet,testifying, 'I messed up my life—and let me tell you, it wasn't worth it.

28Mas Deus livrou a minha alma da cova, e a minha vida verá a luz.

28But God stepped in and saved me from certain death.I'm alive again! Once more I see the light!'

29Tudo isso Deus faz duas e três vezes ao homem,

30para desde a cova reconduzir a sua alma, a fim de que seja iluminado com a luz dos viventes.

30He pulls our souls back from certain destructionso we'll see the light—and live in the light!

31Escuta, ó Jó, ouve-me; cala-te, e eu falarei.
