1Assim que todo o povo acabou de atravessar o Jordão, o SENHOR falou a Josué:

1When the whole nation was finally across, God spoke to Joshua:

2Tomai doze homens dentre o povo, um homem de cada tribo;

2"Select twelve men from the people, a man from each tribe,

3e ordenai-lhes: Do meio do Jordão, do lugar onde pararam os pés dos sacerdotes, tirai dali doze pedras, levai-as convosco para o outro lado e colocai-as no lugar em que haveis de passar esta noite.

3and tell them, 'From right here, the middle of the Jordan where the feet of the priests are standing firm, take twelve stones. Carry them across with you and set them down in the place where you camp tonight.' "

4Josué chamou os doze homens que escolhera dos israelitas, um homem de cada tribo;

4Joshua called out the twelve men whom he selected from the People of Israel, one man from each tribe.

5e disse-lhes: Passai adiante da arca do SENHOR, vosso Deus, ao meio do Jordão, e cada um levante uma pedra sobre o ombro, segundo o número das tribos dos israelitas;

5Joshua directed them, "Cross to the middle of the Jordan and take your place in front of the Chest of God, your God. Each of you heft a stone to your shoulder, a stone for each of the tribes of the People of Israel,

6e isto será por sinal entre vós; e quando vossos filhos no futuro perguntarem: Que significam estas pedras?,

6so you'll have something later to mark the occasion. When your children ask you, 'What are these stones to you?'

7direis a eles que as águas do Jordão foram interrompidas diante da arca da aliança do SENHOR; quando ela passou pelo Jordão, as águas foram interrompidas; e estas pedras serão para sempre um memorial aos israelitas.

7you'll say, 'The flow of the Jordan was stopped in front of the Chest of the Covenant of God as it crossed the Jordan—stopped in its tracks. These stones are a permanent memorial for the People of Israel.' "

8E os israelitas fizeram como Josué havia ordenado: levantaram doze pedras do meio do Jordão como o SENHOR havia falado a Josué, segundo o número das tribos dos israelitas; eles as levaram consigo ao lugar em que pisaram e as colocaram ali.

8The People of Israel did exactly as Joshua commanded: They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan—a stone for each of the twelve tribes, just as God had instructed Joshua—carried them across with them to the camp, and set them down there.

9Josué amontoou também doze pedras no meio do Jordão, no lugar em que pararam os pés dos sacerdotes que levavam a arca da aliança; e ali estão até o dia de hoje.

9Joshua set up the twelve stones taken from the middle of the Jordan that had marked the place where the priests who carried the Chest of the Covenant had stood. They are still there today.

10Pois os sacerdotes que levavam a arca pararam no meio do Jordão, até que se cumpriu tudo o que o SENHOR mandara Josué dizer ao povo, conforme tudo o que Moisés havia ordenado a Josué. E o povo apressou-se e atravessou.

10The priests carrying the Chest continued standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything God had instructed Joshua to tell the people to do was done (confirming what Moses had instructed Joshua). The people crossed; no one dawdled.

11Assim que todo o povo acabou de atravessar, a arca do SENHOR e os sacerdotes atravessaram, à vista do povo.

11When the crossing of all the people was complete, they watched as the Chest of the Covenant and the priests crossed over.

12E os filhos de Rúben, os filhos de Gade e a meia-tribo de Manassés atravessaram, armados, adiante dos demais israelitas, como Moisés lhes tinha dito.

12The Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had crossed over in battle formation in front of the People of Israel, obedient to Moses' instructions.

13Por volta de quarenta mil homens prontos para a guerra passaram diante do SENHOR, rumo às planícies de Jericó.

13All told, about 40,000 armed soldiers crossed over before God to the plains of Jericho, ready for battle.

14Naquele dia o SENHOR honrou Josué aos olhos de todo o Israel; e eles o respeitaram como haviam respeitado Moisés, por todos os dias da sua vida.

14God made Joshua great that day in the sight of all Israel. They were in awe of him just as they had been in awe of Moses all his life.

15Depois o SENHOR falou a Josué:

15God told Joshua,

16Dá ordem aos sacerdotes que levam a arca do testemunho, que saiam do Jordão.
MSG
16"Command the priests carrying the Chest of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan."
AS21
17De modo que Josué deu esta ordem aos sacerdotes: Saí do Jordão.
MSG
17Joshua commanded the priests, "Come up out of the Jordan."
AS21
18E aconteceu que, quando os sacerdotes que levavam a arca da aliança do SENHOR saíram do meio do Jordão, e as plantas dos seus pés pisaram em terra seca, as águas do Jordão voltaram ao seu lugar e transbordaram em todas as suas margens, como antes.

18They did it. The priests carrying God's Chest of the Covenant came up from the middle of the Jordan. As soon as the soles of the priests' feet touched dry land, the Jordan's waters resumed their flow within the banks, just as before.

19O povo saiu do Jordão no dia dez do primeiro mês e acampou em Gilgal, ao oriente de Jericó.

19The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. They set up camp at The Gilgal (The Circle) to the east of Jericho.

20E, em Gilgal, Josué levantou as doze pedras, que haviam tirado do Jordão,

20Joshua erected a monument at The Gilgal, using the twelve stones that they had taken from the Jordan.

21e falou aos israelitas: No futuro, quando vossos filhos perguntarem a seus pais: Que significam estas pedras?,

21And then he told the People of Israel, "In the days to come, when your children ask their fathers, 'What are these stones doing here?'
AS21
22contareis a vossos filhos, dizendo: Israel atravessou este Jordão a pé enxuto.
MSG
22tell your children this: 'Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry ground.'
AS21
23Porque o SENHOR, vosso Deus, fez secar as águas do Jordão diante de vós, até que atravessásseis, assim como fez ao mar Vermelho, ao qual fez secar perante nós, até que o atravessássemos;

23"Yes, God, your God, dried up the Jordan's waters for you until you had crossed, just as God, your God, did at the Red Sea, which had dried up before us until we had crossed.

24para que todos os povos da terra saibam que a mão do SENHOR é forte; a fim de que também temais o SENHOR, vosso Deus, para sempre.

24This was so that everybody on earth would recognize how strong God's rescuing hand is and so that you would hold God in solemn reverence always."
