1Os israelitas voltaram a fazer o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR; por isso ele os entregou nas mãos dos filisteus durante quarenta anos.

1And then the People of Israel were back at it again, doing what was evil in God's sight. God put them under the domination of the Philistines for forty years.

2Havia um homem em Zorá, da tribo de Dã, chamado Manoá, cuja mulher era estéril, nunca lhe dera filhos.

2At that time there was a man named Manoah from Zorah from the tribe of Dan. His wife was barren and childless.

3Mas o anjo do SENHOR apareceu à mulher e lhe disse: És estéril e nunca deste à luz. Mas engravidarás e terás um filho.
MSG
3The angel of God appeared to her and told her, "I know that you are barren and childless, but you're going to become pregnant and bear a son.

4Agora, toma cuidado e não bebas vinho nem bebida forte, e não comas coisa alguma impura;

4But take much care: Drink no wine or beer; eat nothing ritually unclean.

5porque engravidarás e terás um filho; sobre a cabeça dele não passará navalha, porque o menino será nazireu de Deus desde o ventre da mãe. E começará a libertar Israel do domínio dos filisteus.

5You are, in fact, pregnant right now, carrying a son. No razor will touch his head—the boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of his birth. He will launch the deliverance from Philistine oppression."

6Então a mulher entrou e contou tudo ao marido: Um homem de Deus veio falar comigo; seu semblante era como o de um anjo de Deus, sua aparência era temível. Não lhe perguntei de onde era, e ele não me revelou seu nome,

6The woman went to her husband and said, "A man of God came to me. He looked like the angel of God—terror laced with glory! I didn't ask him where he was from and he didn't tell me his name,

7mas me disse: Tu engravidarás e terás um filho. Por isso, não bebas vinho nem bebida forte, e não comas coisa impura; porque o menino será nazireu de Deus desde o ventre da mãe até o dia da sua morte.

7but he told me, 'You're pregnant. You're going to give birth to a son. Don't drink any wine or beer and eat nothing ritually unclean. The boy will be God's Nazirite from the moment of birth to the day of his death.' "

8Então Manoá suplicou ao SENHOR: Ah! Senhor meu, suplico-te que o homem de Deus que enviaste venha até nós mais uma vez e nos ensine o que devemos fazer ao menino que vai nascer.

8Manoah prayed to God: "Master, let the man of God you sent come to us again and teach us how to raise this boy who is to be born."

9Deus ouviu a oração de Manoá, e o anjo de Deus foi falar com a mulher mais uma vez, quando ela estava sentada no campo; mas Manoá, seu marido, não estava com ela.

9God listened to Manoah. God's angel came again to the woman. She was sitting in the field; her husband Manoah wasn't there with her.

10Então a mulher correu depressa até sua casa para dar a notícia ao marido e lhe disse: Apareceu aquele homem que veio falar comigo outro dia.

10She jumped to her feet and ran and told her husband: "He's back! The man who came to me that day!"

11Então Manoá se levantou e seguiu sua mulher. Quando chegou perto do homem, perguntou-lhe: És tu o homem que falou com minha mulher? Ele respondeu: Sou eu.

11Manoah got up and, following his wife, came to the man. He said to him, "Are you the man who spoke to my wife?"He said, "I am."

12Então Manoá disse: Quando as tuas palavras se cumprirem, como devemos criar o menino, e o que ele fará?
MSG
12Manoah said, "So. When what you say comes true, what do you have to tell us about this boy and his work?"

13O anjo do SENHOR respondeu a Manoá: Tua mulher terá de cumprir tudo o que lhe ordenei.

13The angel of God said to Manoah,

14Ela não poderá comer de nenhum produto da videira; não beberá vinho nem bebida forte, nem comerá coisa impura; cumprirá tudo o que lhe ordenei.
MSG
14"Keep in mind everything I told the woman. Eat nothing that comes from the vine: Drink no wine or beer; eat no ritually unclean foods. She's to observe everything I commanded her."

15Então Manoá disse ao anjo do SENHOR: Fica conosco para que preparemos um cabrito para ti.
MSG
15Manoah said to the angel of God, "Please, stay with us a little longer; we'll prepare a meal for you—a young goat."
AS21
16Mas o anjo do SENHOR disse a Manoá: Mesmo que eu fique, não comerei de teu pão; e, se fizeres holocausto, oferece-o ao SENHOR. (Pois Manoá não sabia que era o anjo do SENHOR.)

16God's angel said to Manoah, "Even if I stay, I won't eat your food. But if you want to prepare a Whole-Burnt-Offering for God, go ahead—offer it!" Manoah had no idea that he was talking to the angel of God.

17Manoá ainda perguntou ao anjo do SENHOR: Qual é o teu nome, para que te honremos quando se cumprir a tua palavra?

17Then Manoah asked the angel of God, "What's your name? When your words come true, we'd like to honor you."
AS21
18O anjo do SENHOR lhe respondeu: Por que perguntas pelo meu nome? Meu nome está além do entendimento.
MSG
18The angel of God said, "What's this? You ask for my name? You wouldn't understand—it's sheer wonder."

19Então Manoá tomou um cabrito com a oferta de cereais e o ofereceu ao SENHOR sobre a pedra. E o anjo fez maravilhas enquanto Manoá e sua mulher o observavam;

19So Manoah took the kid and the Grain-Offering and sacrificed them on a rock altar to God who works wonders.

20ao subir a chama do altar para o céu, o anjo do SENHOR subiu com ela. Quando Manoá e sua mulher viram isso, caíram com o rosto em terra.
MSG
20As the flames leapt up from the altar to heaven, God's angel also ascended in the altar flames. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.

21Como o anjo do SENHOR não apareceu mais a Manoá nem à sua mulher, Manoá compreendeu que era o anjo do SENHOR.

21Manoah and his wife never saw the angel of God again.Only then did Manoah realize that this was God's angel.

22E disse à sua mulher: Certamente morreremos, pois vimos a Deus.
MSG
22He said to his wife, "We're as good as dead! We've looked on God!"
AS21
23Mas a mulher lhe respondeu: Se o SENHOR quisesse nos matar, não teria aceitado o holocausto e a oferta de cereais das nossas mãos, nem teria nos mostrado todas essas coisas, nem teria nos revelado o que nos revelou.

23But his wife said, "If God were planning to kill us, he wouldn't have accepted our Whole-Burnt-Offering and Grain-Offering, or revealed all these things to us—given us this birth announcement."

24Depois disso, a mulher deu à luz um filho, a quem chamou Sansão. O menino cresceu, e o SENHOR o abençoou.

24The woman gave birth to a son. They named him Samson. The boy grew and God blessed him.

25E o Espírito do SENHOR começou a agir nele em Maané-Dã, entre Zorá e Estaol.

25The Spirit of God began working in him while he was staying at a Danite camp between Zorah and Eshtaol.
