1Sansão foi a Gaza, viu ali uma prostituta e passou a noite com ela.

1Samson went to Gaza and saw a prostitute. He went to her.

2E disseram aos gazitas: Sansão entrou aqui. Então o cercaram e ficaram a noite toda à espera dele, à porta da cidade. Não se moveram a noite toda, dizendo: Quando raiar o dia, nós o mataremos.

2The news got around: "Samson's here." They gathered around in hiding, waiting all night for him at the city gate, quiet as mice, thinking, "At sunrise we'll kill him."

3Mas Sansão ficou deitado até à meia-noite, depois se levantou, pegou as portas da entrada da cidade, junto com os batentes, e arrancou-as com a tranca. Colocou tudo sobre os ombros e levou até o alto do monte que está defronte de Hebrom.

3Samson was in bed with the woman until midnight. Then he got up, seized the doors of the city gate and the two gateposts, bolts and all, hefted them on his shoulder, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

5The Philistine tyrants approached her and said, "Seduce him. Discover what's behind his great strength and how we can tie him up and humble him. Each man's company will give you a hundred shekels of silver."

6E Dalila disse a Sansão: Revela-me, por favor, em que consiste a tua grande força, e com que poderias ser amarrado e subjugado.

6So Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me, dear, the secret of your great strength, and how you can be tied up and humbled."

7Sansão respondeu-lhe: Se me amarrassem com sete cordas de arco, ainda úmidas, eu ficaria fraco e seria como qualquer outro homem.

7Samson told her, "If they were to tie me up with seven bowstrings—the kind made from fresh animal tendons, not dried out—then I would become weak, just like anyone else."

8Então os chefes dos filisteus levaram a Dalila sete cordas de arco ainda úmidas, com as quais ela o amarrou.

8The Philistine tyrants brought her seven bowstrings, not dried out, and she tied him up with them.

9Tendo homens escondidos no quarto, ela lhe disse: Sansão, os filisteus estão te atacando! Mas ele arrebentou as cordas de arco, como se arrebenta o fio da estopa perto do fogo. Assim, eles não descobriram em que consistia a sua força.

9The men were waiting in ambush in her room. Then she said, "The Philistines are on you, Samson!" He snapped the cords as though they were mere threads. The secret of his strength was still a secret.

10Então Dalila disse a Sansão: Zombaste de mim e mentiste para mim. Agora, revela-me com que poderias ser amarrado.

10Delilah said, "Come now, Samson—you're playing with me, making up stories. Be serious; tell me how you can be tied up."

11Ele lhe respondeu: Se me amarrarem com força com cordas novas que nunca tenham sido usadas, ficarei fraco e serei como qualquer outro homem.

11He told her, "If you were to tie me up tight with new ropes, ropes never used for work, then I would be helpless, just like anybody else."

12Então Dalila pegou cordas novas e o amarrou com elas. Tendo novamente homens escondidos no quarto, ela lhe disse: Sansão, os filisteus estão te atacando! Mas ele as arrebentou dos braços como se arrebenta um fio.

12So Delilah got some new ropes and tied him up. She said, "The Philistines are on you, Samson!" The men were hidden in the next room. He snapped the ropes from his arms like threads.

13E Dalila disse a Sansão: Até agora zombaste de mim e mentiste para mim. Agora, revela-me com que poderias ser amarrado. E ele lhe disse: Se teceres as sete tranças da minha cabeça num pano e o prenderes com um pino de tear, ficarei fraco e serei como qualquer outro homem. 13Delilah said to Samson, "You're still playing games with me, teasing me with lies. Tell me how you can be tied up."He said to her, "If you wove the seven braids of my hair into the fabric on the loom and drew it tight, then I would be as helpless as any other mortal."When she had him fast asleep, Delilah took the seven braids of his hair and wove them into the fabric on the loom

14e o prendeu com o pino de tear. E lhe disse: Sansão, os filisteus estão te atacando! Então ele despertou do seu sono e arrancou o tear com o pino e os fios.

14and drew it tight. Then she said, "The Philistines are on you, Samson!" He woke from his sleep and ripped loose from both the loom and fabric!

15Então ela lhe disse: Como podes dizer que me amas se o teu coração não está comigo? Já zombaste de mim três vezes e ainda não me revelaste em que consiste a tua força.

15She said, "How can you say 'I love you' when you won't even trust me? Three times now you've toyed with me, like a cat with a mouse, refusing to tell me the secret of your great strength."

16E visto que ela o importunava todos os dias com suas palavras, cansou-o tanto que a alma dele se angustiou até a morte.

16She kept at it day after day, nagging and tormenting him. Finally, he was fed up—he couldn't take another minute of it.

17Então ele lhe revelou tudo: Jamais se passou navalha em minha cabeça, porque sou nazireu de Deus desde o ventre materno. Se me fosse rapado o cabelo da cabeça, a minha força se iria, eu ficaria fraco e seria como qualquer outro homem.

17He spilled it.He told her, "A razor has never touched my head. I've been God's Nazirite from conception. If I were shaved, my strength would leave me; I would be as helpless as any other mortal."

18Vendo que ele revelara tudo o que tinha no coração, Dalila mandou chamar os chefes dos filisteus, dizendo: Subi mais uma vez, porque agora me abriu todo o coração. E os chefes dos filisteus subiram ao encontro dela, trazendo as moedas nas mãos.

18When Delilah realized that he had told her his secret, she sent for the Philistine tyrants, telling them, "Come quickly—this time he's told me the truth." They came, bringing the bribe money.

19Então ela o fez dormir no seu colo e mandou chamar um homem para lhe rapar as sete tranças da cabeça. Depois o deixou vulnerável, e sua força desapareceu.

19When she got him to sleep, his head on her lap, she motioned to a man to cut off the seven braids of his hair. Immediately he began to grow weak. His strength drained from him.

20E lhe disse: Sansão, os filisteus estão te atacando! Acordando do sono, ele disse: Sairei e me livrarei como das outras vezes. Mas ele não sabia que o SENHOR havia se retirado dele.

20Then she said, "The Philistines are on you, Samson!" He woke up, thinking, "I'll go out, like always, and shake free." He didn't realize that God had abandoned him.

21Então os filisteus o prenderam, furaram-lhe os olhos e o levaram para Gaza. Amarraram-no com duas algemas de bronze e o fizeram girar um moinho no cárcere.

21The Philistines grabbed him, gouged out his eyes, and took him down to Gaza. They shackled him in irons and put him to the work of grinding in the prison.

22Mas o cabelo da sua cabeça começou a crescer de novo, logo depois de rapado.

22But his hair, though cut off, began to grow again.

23Então os chefes dos filisteus se ajuntaram para oferecer um grande sacrifício ao seu deus Dagom e para comemorar, pois diziam: Nosso deus nos entregou nosso inimigo Sansão nas nossas mãos.

23The Philistine tyrants got together to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon. They celebrated, saying,Our god has given usSamson our enemy!

24E quando o povo o viu, louvou o seu deus, dizendo: Nosso deus nos entregou o nosso inimigo nas mãos, que destruía nossa terra e multiplicava nossos mortos.

24And when the people saw him, they joined in, cheering their god,Our god has givenOur enemy to us,The one who ravaged our country,Piling high the corpses among us.

25Com o coração muito alegre, gritaram: Trazei-nos Sansão para nos divertir. E trouxeram Sansão do cárcere para diverti-los. Colocaram-no em pé entre as colunas,

25Then this: Everyone was feeling high and someone said, "Get Samson! Let him show us his stuff!" They got Samson from the prison and he put on a show for them.They had him standing between the pillars.

26e Sansão disse ao jovem que lhe segurava a mão: Deixa-me apalpar as colunas em que se apoia o templo, para que me encoste nelas.

26Samson said to the young man who was acting as his guide, "Put me where I can touch the pillars that hold up the temple so I can rest against them."

27O templo estava cheio de homens e mulheres, e ali estavam todos os chefes dos filisteus. Na galeria havia cerca de três mil homens e mulheres vendo Sansão, que os divertia.

27The building was packed with men and women, including all the Philistine tyrants. And there were at least 3,000 in the stands watching Samson's performance.

28Então Sansão clamou ao SENHOR e disse: Ó SENHOR Deus! Lembra-te de mim e dá-me forças só mais esta vez, para que me vingue dos filisteus pelos meus dois olhos, ó Deus.

28And Samson cried out to God:Master, God!Oh, please, look on me again,Oh, please, give strength yet once more.God!With one avenging blow let me be avengedOn the Philistines for my two eyes!

29Então forçou as duas colunas centrais que sustentavam o templo, uma com a mão direita e a outra com a mão esquerda,

29Then Samson reached out to the two central pillars that held up the building and pushed against them, one with his right arm, the other with his left.

30e disse: Que eu morra com os filisteus! Em seguida empurrou-as com toda a força, e o templo caiu sobre os chefes e sobre todo o povo que ali estava. Assim, Sansão matou mais gente na sua morte do que em toda a sua vida.

30Saying, "Let me die with the Philistines," Samson pushed hard with all his might. The building crashed on the tyrants and all the people in it. He killed more people in his death than he had killed in his life.

31Então os seus irmãos e toda a casa de seu pai foram buscá-lo. Eles o levaram e o sepultaram, entre Zorá e Estaol, no túmulo de seu pai Manoá. Sansão foi juiz de Israel durante vinte anos.

31His brothers and all his relatives went down to get his body. They carried him back and buried him in the tomb of Manoah his father, between Zorah and Eshtaol.He judged Israel for twenty years.
