1Naqueles dias não havia rei em Israel, e a tribo de Dã procurava lugar para se estabelecer, pois ainda não havia recebido a sua herança entre as tribos de Israel.

1In those days there was no king in Israel. But also in those days, the tribe of Dan was looking for a place to settle down. They hadn't yet occupied their plot among the tribes of Israel.

2Os homens de Dã enviaram cinco homens valentes, escolhidos entre o povo de Zorá e Estaol, para espionar e reconhecer a terra. E lhes disseram: Ide e reconhecei a terra. Quando os homens chegaram à região montanhosa de Efraim, foram à casa de Mica e passaram a noite ali.

2The Danites sent out five robust warriors from Zorah and Eshtaol to look over the land and see what was out there suitable for their families. They said, "Go and explore the land."They went into the hill country of Ephraim and got as far as the house of Micah. They camped there for the night.

3Ao se aproximarem da casa de Mica, reconheceram a voz do jovem levita. Foram a ele e lhe perguntaram: Quem te trouxe para cá? Que estás fazendo aqui? Por que estás aqui?

3As they neared Micah's house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. They went over and said to him, "How on earth did you get here? What's going on? What are you doing here?"

4E ele lhes contou o que Mica havia feito por ele: Ele me contratou e eu lhe sirvo como sacerdote.

4He said, "One thing led to another: Micah hired me and I'm now his priest."

5Então lhe disseram: Consulta a Deus para que saibamos se a nossa viagem será bem-sucedida.

5They said, "Oh, good—inquire of God for us. Find out whether our mission will be a success."

6E o sacerdote lhes respondeu: Ide em paz. A vossa viagem é do SENHOR.

6The priest said, "Go assured. God's looking out for you all the way."

7Então os cinco homens partiram e chegaram a Laís, onde viram que o povo vivia em segurança como os sidônios, despreocupado e tranquilo. Era um povo próspero, pois nada faltava naquela terra. Não tinham relações com os sidônios nem com outro povo.

7The five men left and headed north to Laish. They saw that the people there were living in safety under the umbrella of the Sidonians, quiet and unsuspecting. They had everything going for them. But the people lived a long way from the Sidonians to the west and had no treaty with the Arameans to the east.

8Em seguida, voltaram a seus irmãos em Zorá e Estaol, que lhes perguntaram: Que nos dizeis?

8When they got back to Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers asked, "So, how did you find things?"

9Eles responderam: Levantai-vos, e vamos atacá-los, pois examinamos a terra e vimos que é muito boa. E vós ficareis aqui tranquilos? Não sejais preguiçosos para tomar posse desta terra.

9They said, "Let's go for it! Let's attack. We've seen the land and it is excellent. Are you going to just sit on your hands? Don't dawdle! Invade and conquer!

10Quando chegardes lá, achareis um povo despreocupado, e a terra é muito espaçosa. Deus entregou nas vossas mãos um lugar onde não falta nada do que há na terra.

10When you get there, you'll find they're sitting ducks, totally unsuspecting. Wide open land—God is handing it over to you, everything you could ever ask for."

11Então seiscentos homens da tribo de Dã partiram de Zorá e Estaol com armas de guerra.

11So 600 Danite men set out from Zorah and Eshtaol, armed to the teeth.

12E subiram e acamparam em Quiriate-Jearim, em Judá. Por isso, o lugar ficou conhecido como Maané-Dã até hoje, e está localizado a oeste de Quiriate-Jearim.

12Along the way they made camp at Kiriath Jearim in Judah. That is why the place is still today called Dan's Camp—it's just west of Kiriath Jearim.

13From there they proceeded into the hill country of Ephraim and came to Micah's house.

14Então os cinco homens que haviam ido espionar a terra de Laís perguntaram a seus irmãos: Por acaso sabeis que naquelas casas há um colete sacerdotal, ídolos da família, uma imagem esculpida e um ídolo de metal? Pensai bem no que fareis.

14The five men who earlier had explored the country of Laish told their companions, "Did you know there's an ephod, teraphim-idols, and a cast god-sculpture in these buildings? What do you think? Do you want to do something about it?"

15Então foram para lá e chegaram à casa do jovem levita, à casa de Mica, e o cumprimentaram.

15So they turned off the road there, went to the house of the young Levite at Micah's place and asked how things had been with him.

16E os seiscentos homens da tribo de Dã ficaram à entrada da porta, com suas armas de guerra.

16The 600 Danites, all well-armed, stood guard at the entrance to the gate

17Os cinco homens que haviam espionado a terra entraram e tomaram a imagem esculpida, o colete sacerdotal, os ídolos da família e o ídolo de metal, enquanto o sacerdote e os seiscentos homens armados estavam à porta.

17while the five scouts who had gone to explore the land went in and took the carved idol, the ephod, the teraphim-idols, and the god-sculpture. The priest was standing at the gate entrance with the 600 armed men.

18When the five went into Micah's house and took the carved idol, the ephod, the teraphim-idols, and the sculpted god, the priest said to them, "What do you think you're doing?"

19E eles lhe responderam: Silêncio! Põe a mão sobre a boca, vem conosco, e sê o nosso pai e sacerdote. O que é melhor para ti? Ser sacerdote só da casa de um homem, ou de uma tribo e de um clã em Israel?

19They said to him, "Hush! Don't make a sound. Come with us. Be our father and priest. Which is more important, that you be a priest to one man or that you become priest to a whole tribe and clan in Israel?"

20Então o sacerdote ficou muito contente e pegou o colete sacerdotal, os ídolos da família e a imagem esculpida e se juntou aos homens.

20The priest jumped at the chance. He took the ephod, the teraphim-idols, and the idol and fell in with the troops.

21Assim, viraram-se e partiram, colocando diante de si os filhos, o gado e os bens.
MSG
21They turned away and set out, putting the children, the cattle, and the gear in the lead.

22Quando já estavam longe da casa de Mica, os homens das casas vizinhas à dele se ajuntaram e alcançaram os homens de Dã.

22They were well on their way from Micah's house before Micah and his neighbors got organized. But they soon overtook the Danites.

23E gritaram aos homens de Dã, os quais, virando-se, perguntaram a Mica: Que houve? Por que vens com tanta gente?
MSG
23They shouted at them. The Danites turned around and said, "So what's all the noise about?"
AS21
24Então ele respondeu: Tomastes os meus deuses e o meu sacerdote e partistes. Agora, o que me sobrou? E ainda perguntais: Que houve?

24Micah said, "You took my god, the one I made, and you took my priest. And you marched off! What do I have left? How can you now say, 'What's the matter?' "

25Mas os homens de Dã lhe disseram: Que não se ouça a tua voz entre nós, para que homens violentos não se lancem sobre vós e percas a vida, juntamente com os da tua casa.

25But the Danites answered, "Don't yell at us; you just might provoke some fierce, hot-tempered men to attack you, and you'll end up an army of dead men."

26Assim, os homens de Dã seguiram o seu caminho. Quando Mica viu que eram mais fortes do que ele, virou-se e voltou para casa.

26The Danites went on their way. Micah saw that he didn't stand a chance against their arms. He turned back and went home.

27Os homens de Dã levaram os objetos que Mica havia feito e o sacerdote a Laís, onde habitava um povo despreocupado e tranquilo. Então, mataram todos ao fio da espada e incendiaram a cidade.

27So they took the things that Micah had made, along with his priest, and they arrived at Laish, that city of quiet and unsuspecting people. They massacred the people and burned down the city.

28E ninguém os livrou, pois estavam longe de Sidom e não tinham relações com ninguém. A cidade estava situada no vale junto a Bete-Reobe. Depois dessas coisas, reconstruíram a cidade e habitaram nela,

28There was no one around to help. They were a long way from Sidon and had no treaty with the Arameans. Laish was in the valley of Beth Rehob.

29dando-lhe o nome de Dã, segundo o nome de seu antepassado Dã, filho de Israel. Anteriormente o nome da cidade era Laís.

29When they rebuilt the city they renamed it Dan after their ancestor who was a son of Israel, but its original name was Laish.

30Os homens de Dã levantaram para si aquela imagem esculpida, e Jônatas, filho de Gérson, neto de Moisés, e seus filhos foram sacerdotes da tribo de Dã até a ida do povo para o cativeiro.

30The Danites set up the god-figure for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his descendants were priests to the tribe of Dan down to the time of the land's captivity.

31Deste modo, estabeleceram para si a imagem esculpida feita por Mica durante todo o tempo em que o santuário de Deus esteve em Siló.

31All during the time that there was a sanctuary of God in Shiloh, they kept for their private use the god-figure that Micah had made.
