2E este os entregou nas mãos de Jabim, rei de Canaã, que reinava em Hazor. O comandante do seu exército era Sísera, que habitava em Harosete-Hagoim.

2God sold them off to Jabin king of Canaan who ruled from Hazor. Sisera, who lived in Harosheth Haggoyim, was the commander of his army.

3Então os israelitas clamaram ao SENHOR, pois Jabim, que tinha novecentos carros de guerra feitos de ferro, os havia oprimido com crueldade durante vinte anos.

3The People of Israel cried out to God because he had cruelly oppressed them with his nine hundred iron chariots for twenty years.

4Ora, quem julgava Israel naquela época era a profetisa Débora, mulher de Lapidote.

6Certo dia, ela mandou chamar Baraque, filho de Abinoão, de Quedes-Naftali, e disse-lhe: O SENHOR, Deus de Israel, te ordena: Vai, ajunta dez mil homens dos filhos de Naftali e dos filhos de Zebulom, e conduze-os ao monte Tabor.

6She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, "It has become clear that God, the God of Israel, commands you: Go to Mount Tabor and prepare for battle. Take ten companies of soldiers from Naphtali and Zebulun.

7Farei com que Sísera, chefe do exército de Jabim, te ataque com os seus carros de guerra e suas tropas junto ao ribeiro de Quisom; e o entregarei nas tuas mãos.

7I'll take care of getting Sisera, the leader of Jabin's army, to the Kishon River with all his chariots and troops. And I'll make sure you win the battle."

8E Baraque disse-lhe: Se fores comigo, irei; mas não irei se não fores.

9Ela respondeu: É certo que irei contigo, mas a honra desta expedição não será tua, pois o SENHOR entregará Sísera nas mãos de uma mulher. Então Débora foi com Baraque até Quedes,

9She said, "Of course I'll go with you. But understand that with an attitude like that, there'll be no glory in it for you. God will use a woman's hand to take care of Sisera."Deborah got ready and went with Barak to Kedesh.

10onde ele convocou Zebulom e Naftali. Dez mil homens o seguiram, e Débora também foi com ele.

10Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together at Kedesh. Ten companies of men followed him. And Deborah was with him.

11Um queneu chamado Héber havia se separado dos outros queneus, dos filhos de Hobabe, sogro de Moisés, e armado suas tendas junto ao carvalho de Zaananim, próximo de Quedes.

11It happened that Heber the Kenite had parted company with the other Kenites, the descendants of Hobab, Moses' in-law. He was now living at Zaanannim Oak near Kedesh.

12They told Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor.

13Sísera reuniu todos os seus novecentos carros de ferro e todos os seus soldados, desde Harosete-Hagoim até o ribeiro de Quisom.

13Sisera immediately called up all his chariots to the Kishon River—nine hundred iron chariots!—along with all his troops who were with him at Harosheth Haggoyim.

14Então Débora disse a Baraque: Levanta-te, porque este é o dia em que o SENHOR entregou Sísera nas tuas mãos. É certo que o SENHOR já foi à tua frente. Então Baraque desceu do monte Tabor, e dez mil homens o seguiram.

14Deborah said to Barak, "Charge! This very day God has given you victory over Sisera. Isn't God marching before you?"Barak charged down the slopes of Mount Tabor, his ten companies following him.

15Diante do avanço de Baraque, o SENHOR derrotou Sísera ao fio da espada, com todos os seus carros e todo o seu exército. Sísera desceu do seu carro e fugiu a pé.

15God routed Sisera—all those chariots, all those troops!—before Barak. Sisera jumped out of his chariot and ran.

16Mas Baraque perseguiu os carros de guerra e o exército até Harosete-Hagoim. Todo o exército de Sísera caiu ao fio da espada; não restou um só homem.

16Barak chased the chariots and troops all the way to Harosheth Haggoyim. Sisera's entire fighting force was killed—not one man left.

17Mas Sísera fugiu a pé para a tenda de Jael, mulher de Héber, o queneu, pois havia paz entre Jabim, rei de Hazor, e a casa de Héber, o queneu.

17Meanwhile Sisera, running for his life, headed for the tent of Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite. Jabin king of Hazor and Heber the Kenite were on good terms with one another.

18Jael saiu ao encontro de Sísera e disse-lhe: Entra, meu senhor, entra aqui; não temas. Ele entrou na sua tenda, e ela o cobriu com uma coberta.

18Jael stepped out to meet Sisera and said, "Come in, sir. Stay here with me. Don't be afraid."So he went with her into her tent. She covered him with a blanket.

19Então ele lhe disse: Peço-te que me dês um pouco de água, pois estou com sede. Ela abriu uma vasilha de couro cheia de leite, deu-lhe de beber e o cobriu.

19He said to her, "Please, a little water. I'm thirsty."She opened a bottle of milk, gave him a drink, and then covered him up again.

20E ele ainda lhe disse: Fica à entrada da tenda, e se alguém vier e te perguntar: Há alguém aí?, responde: Não.

20He then said, "Stand at the tent flap. If anyone comes by and asks you, 'Is there anyone here?' tell him, 'No, not a soul.' "

21Entretanto, Jael, mulher de Héber, pegou uma estaca da tenda e um martelo e aproximou-se em silêncio, enquanto ele dormia profundamente, pois estava exausto. Então, cravou-lhe a estaca na têmpora até penetrar no chão, e ele morreu.

21Then while he was fast asleep from exhaustion, Jael wife of Heber took a tent peg and hammer, tiptoed toward him, and drove the tent peg through his temple and all the way into the ground. He convulsed and died.

22Enquanto Baraque passava à procura de Sísera, Jael saiu ao seu encontro e lhe disse: Vem, e te mostrarei o homem que procuras. Quando Baraque entrou na tenda, viu Sísera caído e morto, com a estaca na têmpora.

22Barak arrived in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to greet him. She said, "Come, I'll show you the man you're looking for." He went with her and there he was—Sisera, stretched out, dead, with a tent peg through his neck.

23Dessa forma, naquele dia, Deus subjugou Jabim, rei de Canaã, diante dos israelitas.

23On that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan before the People of Israel.

24E o poder dos israelitas sobre Jabim, rei de Canaã, tornou-se cada vez maior, até que eles o destruíram.

24The People of Israel pressed harder and harder on Jabin king of Canaan until there was nothing left of him.
