1Jesus estava orando em certo lugar e, quando terminou, um de seus discípulos lhe disse: Senhor, ensina-nos a orar, como João ensinou aos discípulos dele.

1When he finished praying in a certain place, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”

2Ele então lhes falou: Quando orardes, dizei: Pai, santificado seja o teu nome; venha o teu reino;

2He said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

3dá-nos diariamente nosso pão do dia a dia;

3Give us day by day our daily bread.

4e perdoa-nos os nossos pecados, pois também nós perdoamos a todo que nos deve; e não nos deixes entrar em tentação, mas livra-nos do mal.

4Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

7e se ele, de dentro, responder: Não me incomodes; a porta já está fechada, eu e os meus filhos já nos acomodamos para dormir; não posso levantar-me para te atender;

7and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?

8eu vos digo que, mesmo que não se levante para dar os pães por causa da amizade, ele se levantará por causa do incômodo e dará quantos pães o outro precisar.

11E qual pai dentre vós, se o filho lhe pedir pão, lhe dará uma pedra? Ou, se lhe pedir peixe, lhe dará uma cobra em lugar do peixe?

11“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

12Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he?

13Se vós, sendo maus, sabeis dar boas coisas aos vossos filhos, quanto mais o Pai celestial dará o Espírito Santo aos que o pedirem.

13If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

14Jesus estava expulsando um demônio que era mudo; e, quando o demônio saiu, o mudo falou; e a multidão ficou admirada.

14He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled.

15Mas alguns disseram: Ele expulsa os demônios por meio de Belzebu, o chefe dos demônios.

15But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”

16E outros, para colocá-lo à prova, pediam-lhe um sinal do céu.

16Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

17Ele, porém, conhecendo-lhes os pensamentos, disse-lhes: Todo reino dividido contra si mesmo será destruído, e uma família atacará outra família.

17But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls.

18Então, se Satanás está dividido contra si mesmo, como o seu reino sobreviverá? Pois dizeis que eu expulso os demônios por meio de Belzebu.

18If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.

19E se eu expulso os demônios por meio de Belzebu, por quem os vossos seguidores os expulsam? Por isso, eles mesmos serão os vossos juízes.

19But if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore will they be your judges.

20Mas, se é pelo dedo de Deus que eu expulso os demônios, então o reino de Deus chegou a vós.

20But if I by God’s finger cast out demons, then God’s Kingdom has come to you.

21Quando um homem forte e armado guarda a sua casa, os seus bens estão em segurança;

21“When the strong man, fully armed, guards his own dwelling, his goods are safe.

22mas, chegando outro mais forte do que ele e vencendo-o, tira-lhe todas as armas em que confiava e reparte os bens que tomou.

22But when someone stronger attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him his whole armor in which he trusted, and divides his plunder.

23Quem não está comigo, está contra mim; e quem comigo não ajunta, espalha.

23“He that is not with me is against me. He who doesn’t gather with me scatters.
AS21
24Quando um espírito impuro sai de um homem, anda por lugares áridos, buscando repouso; se não o encontra, diz: Voltarei para minha casa de onde saí.

24The unclean spirit, when he has gone out of the man, passes through dry places, seeking rest, and finding none, he says, ‘I will turn back to my house from which I came out.’

25E chegando, encontra-a varrida e enfeitada.

25When he returns, he finds it swept and put in order.

26Então vai e leva consigo outros sete espíritos piores do que ele e, entrando, habitam ali; e o último estado desse homem torna-se pior do que o primeiro.

26Then he goes, and takes seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”

27Enquanto ele dizia essas coisas, uma mulher entre a multidão levantou a voz e lhe disse: Bem-aventurado o ventre que te gerou e os seios que te amamentaram.

27It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!”

28Mas ele respondeu: Antes, bem-aventurados os que ouvem a palavra de Deus e a praticam.

28But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.”

29Como a multidão aumentava, ele começou a dizer: Esta é uma geração perversa; ela pede um sinal, mas nenhum sinal lhe será dado, a não ser o de Jonas.

29When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet.

30Porque assim como Jonas foi um sinal para os ninivitas, também o Filho do homem o será para esta geração.

30For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.

31A rainha do Sul se levantará no juízo contra os homens desta geração e os condenará, pois veio dos confins da terra para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão; e aqui está quem é maior do que Salomão.

31The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.

32Os homens de Nínive se levantarão no juízo contra esta geração e a condenarão, pois se arrependeram com a pregação de Jonas; e aqui está quem é maior do que Jonas.

32The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

33Ninguém acende uma candeia e a coloca em lugar oculto, nem debaixo do cesto, mas no velador, para que os que entram vejam a luz.

33“No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light.

34A candeia do corpo são os olhos. Quando os teus olhos forem bons, todo o teu corpo será luminoso; mas, quando forem maus, o teu corpo será repleto de trevas.

34The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.

35Cuida, então, para que a luz que há em ti não sejam trevas.

35Therefore see whether the light that is in you isn’t darkness.

36Se, pois, o teu corpo todo estiver iluminado, sem parte alguma em trevas, ele será todo luminoso, à semelhança da candeia que te ilumina com o seu resplendor.

36If therefore your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly full of light, as when the lamp with its bright shining gives you light.”

37Quando Jesus terminou de falar, um fariseu o convidou para vir comer com ele; e, entrando, Jesus sentou-se à mesa.

37Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in, and sat at the table.

38O fariseu admirou-se, vendo que ele não se lavara antes de comer.

38When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner.

39E o Senhor lhe disse: Vós, os fariseus, limpais o exterior do copo e do prato; mas o vosso interior está cheio de cobiça e maldade.

39The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.

40Loucos! Quem fez o exterior não fez também o interior?

40You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also?

41Dai, porém, de esmola o que está dentro do copo e do prato, e todas as coisas vos serão limpas.

41But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

42Mas ai de vós, fariseus, porque dais o dízimo da hortelã, da arruda e de toda hortaliça, e desprezais a justiça e o amor de Deus. Devíeis praticar estas coisas, sem esquecer aquelas.

42But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God’s love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

43Ai de vós, fariseus, porque gostais dos primeiros assentos nas sinagogas e dos cumprimentos em público.

43Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues, and the greetings in the marketplaces.

44Ai de vós, porque sois como sepulturas ocultas, sobre as quais os homens caminham sem saber.

44Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don’t know it.”

45Então um dos doutores da lei lhe disse: Mestre, quando dizes isso, também ofendes a nós.

45One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying this you insult us also.”
AS21
46Ele, porém, respondeu: Ai de vós também, doutores da lei, pois sobrecarregais os homens com fardos difíceis de carregar, mas vós nem com um dedo tocais esses fardos.

46He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won’t even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

47Ai de vós, pois edificais os túmulos dos profetas que vossos antepassados mataram.

47Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
AS21
48Assim, sois testemunhas que aprovam as obras de vossos antepassados; pois eles mataram os profetas, e vós lhes edificais os túmulos.

48So you testify and consent to the works of your fathers. For they killed them, and you build their tombs.
AS21
49Por isso diz a sabedoria de Deus: Eu lhes mandarei profetas e apóstolos; e eles matarão uns e perseguirão outros;

49Therefore also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,
AS21
50portanto, esta geração prestará contas do sangue derramado de todos os profetas, desde a fundação do mundo;

50that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
AS21
51desde o sangue de Abel, até o sangue de Zacarias, morto entre o altar e o santuário; sim, eu vos digo, esta geração prestará contas.

51from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

52Ai de vós, doutores da lei, porque retivestes a chave do conhecimento; vós mesmos não entrastes e impedistes os que desejavam entrar.

52Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn’t enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered.”

53Ao sair ele dali, os escribas e os fariseus começaram a pressioná-lo com insistência e a interrogá-lo acerca de muitas coisas,

53As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him;

54armando-lhe ciladas, a fim de o apanharem em alguma coisa que dissesse.

54lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.
