1Certa vez, às margens do lago de Genesaré, quando a multidão se comprimia junto a Jesus para ouvir a palavra de Deus,

1Once when he was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, the crowd was pushing in on him to better hear the Word of God.

2ele viu dois barcos junto à praia do lago; os pescadores haviam desembarcado e estavam lavando as redes.

2He noticed two boats tied up. The fishermen had just left them and were out scrubbing their nets.

3Entrando ele num dos barcos, que era o de Simão, pediu-lhe que o afastasse um pouco da terra; e, sentando-se, do barco ensinava as multidões.

3He climbed into the boat that was Simon's and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Sitting there, using the boat for a pulpit, he taught the crowd.

4Quando acabou de falar, disse a Simão: Vai mais para dentro do lago; e lançai as vossas redes para a pesca.

4When he finished teaching, he said to Simon, "Push out into deep water and let your nets out for a catch."

5Simão disse: Mestre, trabalhamos a noite toda e nada pescamos; mas, por causa da tua palavra, lançarei as redes.

5Simon said, "Master, we've been fishing hard all night and haven't caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I'll let out the nets."

6Feito isso, apanharam uma grande quantidade de peixes, tantos que as redes começaram a se romper.

6It was no sooner said than done—a huge haul of fish, straining the nets past capacity.

7Acenaram então aos companheiros que estavam no outro barco, para virem ajudá-los. Eles foram e encheram ambos os barcos, tanto que quase iam a pique.

7They waved to their partners in the other boat to come help them. They filled both boats, nearly swamping them with the catch.

8Ao ver isso, Simão Pedro prostrou-se aos pés de Jesus, dizendo: Afasta-te de mim, Senhor, porque sou um homem pecador.

8Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell to his knees before Jesus. "Master, leave. I'm a sinner and can't handle this holiness. Leave me to myself."

9When they pulled in that catch of fish, awe overwhelmed Simon and everyone with him.

10bem como de Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, que eram sócios de Simão. Jesus disse a Simão: Não temas; de agora em diante serás pescador de homens.

10It was the same with James and John, Zebedee's sons, coworkers with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "There is nothing to fear. From now on you'll be fishing for men and women."

11They pulled their boats up on the beach, left them, nets and all, and followed him.

12Quando ele estava numa das cidades, apareceu um homem tomado pela lepra, que, vendo Jesus, prostrou-se com o rosto em terra e suplicou-lhe: Senhor, se quiseres, podes purificar-me.

12One day in one of the villages there was a man covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus he fell down before him in prayer and said, "If you want to, you can cleanse me."

13Jesus estendeu a mão e o tocou, dizendo: Quero; fica purificado. No mesmo instante, a lepra desapareceu.

13Jesus put out his hand, touched him, and said, "I want to. Be clean." Then and there his skin was smooth, the leprosy gone.

14Ele então lhe ordenou que a ninguém contasse isso e disse-lhe: Mas vai mostrar-te ao sacerdote e oferece pela tua purificação o que Moisés determinou, para que isso lhes sirva de testemunho.

14Jesus instructed him, "Don't talk about this all over town. Just quietly present your healed self to the priest, along with the offering ordered by Moses. Your cleansed and obedient life, not your words, will bear witness to what I have done."

15A sua fama, porém, se espalhava cada vez mais, e grandes multidões se ajuntavam para ouvi-lo e serem curadas de suas doenças.

15But the man couldn't keep it to himself, and the word got out. Soon a large crowd of people had gathered to listen and be healed of their ailments.

16As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.

17Um dia, enquanto ele estava ensinando, encontravam-se fariseus e doutores da lei sentados ao redor, que tinham vindo de todos os povoados da Galileia e da Judeia, e de Jerusalém; e o poder do Senhor estava com ele para curar.

17One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and religion teachers were sitting around. They had come from nearly every village in Galilee and Judea, even as far away as Jerusalem, to be there. The healing power of God was on him.

18Então alguns homens, trazendo um paralítico em uma maca, tentavam levá-lo para dentro e colocá-lo diante de Jesus.

18Some men arrived carrying a paraplegic on a stretcher. They were looking for a way to get into the house and set him before Jesus.

19Mas, não achando por onde o pudessem levar para dentro por causa da multidão, subiram ao terraço e o baixaram na maca por meio de uma passagem até o meio da multidão, diante de Jesus.

19When they couldn't find a way in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof, removed some tiles, and let him down in the middle of everyone, right in front of Jesus.

20E vendo-lhes a fé, Jesus disse: Homem, os teus pecados estão perdoados.

20Impressed by their bold belief, he said, "Friend, I forgive your sins."

21Então os escribas e os fariseus começaram a pensar: Quem é este que profere blasfêmias? Quem pode perdoar pecados, a não ser Deus?

21That set the religion scholars and Pharisees buzzing. "Who does he think he is? That's blasphemous talk! God and only God can forgive sins."

22Percebendo, porém, os seus pensamentos, Jesus lhes perguntou: Por que pensais assim no coração?

22Jesus knew exactly what they were thinking and said, "Why all this gossipy whispering?

23O que é mais fácil dizer? Os teus pecados estão perdoados; ou: Levanta-te e anda?

23Which is simpler: to say 'I forgive your sins,' or to say 'Get up and start walking'?

24Mas, para que saibais que o Filho do homem tem na terra autoridade para perdoar pecados (disse ao paralítico), eu te digo: Levanta-te, pega a tua maca e vai para casa.

24Well, just so it's clear that I'm the Son of Man and authorized to do either, or both... ." He now spoke directly to the paraplegic: "Get up. Take your bedroll and go home."

25Imediatamente ele se levantou diante deles, pegou a maca em que estivera deitado e foi para casa, glorificando a Deus.

25Without a moment's hesitation, he did it—got up, took his blanket, and left for home, giving glory to God all the way.

26E, maravilhados, todos glorificavam a Deus; e, cheios de temor, diziam: Hoje vimos coisas extraordinárias.

26The people rubbed their eyes, incredulous—and then also gave glory to God. Awestruck, they said, "We've never seen anything like that!"

27Depois disso, ele saiu e, vendo um publicano chamado Levi, sentado na coletoria, disse-lhe: Segue-me.

27After this he went out and saw a man named Levi at his work collecting taxes. Jesus said, "Come along with me."

28Ele, deixando tudo, levantou-se e o seguiu.

28And he did—walked away from everything and went with him.

29E Levi ofereceu-lhe um rico banquete em sua casa; e estavam com eles à mesa um grande número de publicanos e outras pessoas.

29Levi gave a large dinner at his home for Jesus. Everybody was there, tax men and other disreputable characters as guests at the dinner.

30Os fariseus e seus escribas criticavam os discípulos, perguntando: Por que comeis e bebeis com publicanos e pecadores?

30The Pharisees and their religion scholars came to his disciples greatly offended. "What is he doing eating and drinking with crooks and 'sinners'?"

31Jesus lhes respondeu: Os sãos não precisam de médico, mas sim os doentes;

31Jesus heard about it and spoke up, "Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick?

32eu não vim chamar os justos ao arrependimento, mas os pecadores.

32I'm here inviting outsiders, not insiders—an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out."

33E disseram-lhe: Os discípulos de João jejuam com frequência e fazem orações, como também os dos fariseus, mas os teus estão sempre comendo e bebendo.

33They asked him, "John's disciples are well-known for keeping fasts and saying prayers. Also the Pharisees. But you seem to spend most of your time at parties. Why?"

34Jesus lhes respondeu: Acaso podeis fazer jejuar os convidados para o casamento enquanto o noivo está com eles?
MSG
34Jesus said, "When you're celebrating a wedding, you don't skimp on the cake and wine. You feast. Later you may need to pull in your belt, but this isn't the time. As long as the bride and groom are with you, you have a good time.

35Mas chegarão os dias em que o noivo lhes será tirado; naqueles dias jejuarão.

35When the groom is gone, the fasting can begin. No one throws cold water on a friendly bonfire. This is Kingdom Come!

36Então lhes contou uma parábola: Ninguém toma um pedaço de roupa nova para o costurar em roupa velha; se fizer isso, não somente rasgará a roupa nova, como também o pedaço da roupa nova não se ajustará à roupa velha.

36"No one cuts up a fine silk scarf to patch old work clothes; you want fabrics that match.

37E ninguém põe vinho novo em recipiente de couro velho; porque o vinho novo romperá o recipiente de couro e se derramará, e o recipiente de couro se perderá;

37And you don't put wine in old, cracked bottles;

38mas põe-se vinho novo em recipiente de couro novo.

38you get strong, clean bottles for your fresh vintage wine.

39E ninguém, depois de beber o vinho velho, quer o novo, pois diz: O vinho velho é melhor.

39And no one who has ever tasted fine aged wine prefers unaged wine."
