2Envia homens para sondar a terra de Canaã, que dou aos israelitas. Enviarás um homem de cada tribo de seus pais, todos eles líderes entre os israelitas.

2"Send men to scout out the country of Canaan that I am giving to the People of Israel. Send one man from each ancestral tribe, each one a tried-and-true leader in the tribe."

3Então Moisés os enviou do deserto de Parã, segundo a ordem do SENHOR. Todos eles eram líderes entre os israelitas.

3So Moses sent them off from the Wilderness of Paran at the command of God. All of them were leaders in Israel, one from each tribe.

16These are the names of the men Moses sent to scout out the land. Moses gave Hoshea (Salvation) son of Nun a new name—Joshua (God-Saves).

17Moisés os enviou para sondar a terra de Canaã e disse-lhes: Subi pelo Neguebe e atravessai as montanhas;

17When Moses sent them off to scout out Canaan, he said, "Go up through the Negev and then into the hill country.

18vede como é a terra e o povo que nela habita, se é forte ou fraco, se são poucos ou muitos.

18Look the land over, see what it is like. Assess the people: Are they strong or weak? Are there few or many?

19Vede como é a terra em que habitam, se é boa ou má; como são suas cidades, se acampamentos ou fortalezas;

19Observe the land: Is it pleasant or harsh? Describe the towns where they live: Are they open camps or fortified with walls?

20e como é a terra, se fértil ou não; se há árvores nela, ou não; e procurai colher alguns frutos dela. Aquela era a estação das primeiras uvas.

20And the soil: Is it fertile or barren? Are there forests? And try to bring back a sample of the produce that grows there—this is the season for the first ripe grapes."

21Então, eles subiram e sondaram a terra desde o deserto de Zim até Reobe, perto de Lebo-Hamate.

21With that they were on their way. They scouted out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob toward Lebo Hamath.

22E, subindo para o Neguebe, foram até Hebrom, onde viviam Aimã, Sesai e Talmai, filhos de Anaque. Hebrom foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoã, no Egito.

22Their route went through the Negev Desert to the town of Hebron. Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, descendants of the giant Anak, lived there. Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

23Depois foram até o vale de Escol e dali cortaram um ramo de videira com um único cacho, que dois homens trouxeram numa vara; e trouxeram também romãs e figos.

23When they arrived at the Eshcol Valley they cut off a branch with a single cluster of grapes—it took two men to carry it—slung on a pole. They also picked some pomegranates and figs.

24Aquele lugar foi chamado vale de Escol, por causa do cacho que os israelitas cortaram ali.

24They named the place Eshcol Valley (Grape-Cluster-Valley) because of the huge cluster of grapes they had cut down there.

25Ao fim de quarenta dias, eles voltaram de sondar a terra.

25After forty days of scouting out the land, they returned home.

26Ao chegarem, apresentaram-se a Moisés e a Arão, e a toda a comunidade dos israelitas, no deserto de Parã, em Cades; então relataram tudo a eles e a toda a comunidade e mostraram-lhes o fruto da terra.

26They presented themselves before Moses and Aaron and the whole congregation of the People of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They reported to the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

27E, prestando contas a Moisés, disseram: Fomos à terra à qual nos enviaste. Ela, de fato, dá leite e mel; e este é o seu fruto.

27Then they told the story of their trip:"We went to the land to which you sent us and, oh! It does flow with milk and honey! Just look at this fruit!

28Contudo o povo que habita nessa terra é poderoso, e as cidades são fortificadas e muito grandes. Vimos também ali os descendentes de Anaque.
MSG
28The only thing is that the people who live there are fierce, their cities are huge and well fortified. Worse yet, we saw descendants of the giant Anak.

29Os amalequitas habitam na terra do Neguebe; os heteus, os jebuseus e os amorreus habitam nas montanhas, e os cananeus habitam junto ao mar e ao longo do rio Jordão.

29Amalekites are spread out in the Negev; Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites hold the hill country; and the Canaanites are established on the Mediterranean Sea and along the Jordan."

30Então Calebe fez o povo calar-se diante de Moisés e disse: Temos de subir e nos apoderar dela, pois com certeza conseguiremos prevalecer contra ela.

30Caleb interrupted, called for silence before Moses and said, "Let's go up and take the land—now. We can do it."

31Mas os homens que haviam subido com ele disseram: Não conseguiremos subir contra aquele povo, porque é mais forte do que nós.

31But the others said, "We can't attack those people; they're way stronger than we are."
AS21
32Então, depreciaram diante dos israelitas a terra que haviam sondado: A terra por onde passamos para conhecê-la é uma terra que devora os seus habitantes; e todos os que vimos nela são homens de grande estatura.

32They spread scary rumors among the People of Israel. They said, "We scouted out the land from one end to the other—it's a land that swallows people whole. Everybody we saw was huge.

33Também vimos ali os nefilins (pois os descendentes de Anaque procedem dos nefilins); e éramos como gafanhotos aos nossos próprios olhos e também aos olhos deles.

33Why, we even saw the Nephilim giants (the Anak giants come from the Nephilim). Alongside them we felt like grasshoppers. And they looked down on us as if we were grasshoppers."
