1Toda a comunidade dos israelitas chegou ao deserto de Zim no primeiro mês. O povo habitou em Cades, onde Miriã morreu e foi sepultada.

1In the first month, the entire company of the People of Israel arrived in the Wilderness of Zin. The people stayed in Kadesh.Miriam died there, and she was buried.

2Como não havia água para o povo, eles se ajuntaram contra Moisés e Arão.
MSG
2There was no water there for the community, so they ganged up on Moses and Aaron.

3E o povo desentendeu-se com Moisés, dizendo: Quem nos dera tivéssemos morrido quando nossos irmãos morreram diante do SENHOR!

3They attacked Moses: "We wish we'd died when the rest of our brothers died before God.

4Por que trouxestes a comunidade do SENHOR a este deserto, para morrermos aqui com os nossos animais?
MSG
4Why did you haul this congregation of God out here into this wilderness to die, people and cattle alike?
AS21
5E por que nos fizestes sair do Egito, para nos trazer a este lugar horrível, lugar onde não há semente, nem figos, nem vinhas, nem romãs, nem mesmo água para beber?
MSG
5And why did you take us out of Egypt in the first place, dragging us into this miserable country? No grain, no figs, no grapevines, no pomegranates—and now not even any water!"

6Então Moisés e Arão afastaram-se da assembleia e foram até a entrada da tenda da revelação e prostraram-se com o rosto em terra; e a glória do SENHOR lhes apareceu.

6Moses and Aaron walked from the assembled congregation to the Tent of Meeting and threw themselves facedown on the ground. And they saw the Glory of God.

7E o SENHOR disse a Moisés:

7God spoke to Moses:

8Pega a vara e reúne a comunidade, tu e teu irmão Arão. Falareis à rocha diante do povo, para que ela dê suas águas. Tirarás água da rocha e darás de beber à comunidade e aos seus animais.

8"Take the staff. Assemble the community, you and your brother Aaron. Speak to that rock that's right in front of them and it will give water. You will bring water out of the rock for them; congregation and cattle will both drink."

9Então, Moisés pegou a vara de diante do SENHOR, conforme este lhe havia ordenado.

9Moses took the staff away from God's presence, as commanded.
AS21
10Moisés e Arão reuniram a assembleia diante da rocha, e Moisés lhes disse: Rebeldes, ouvi agora! Será que vamos tirar água desta rocha para vós?
MSG
10He and Aaron rounded up the whole congregation in front of the rock. Moses spoke: "Listen, rebels! Do we have to bring water out of this rock for you?"

11Então Moisés ergueu o braço e bateu na rocha duas vezes com a vara, e saiu muita água, e a comunidade e os seus animais beberam.

11With that Moses raised his arm and slammed his staff against the rock—once, twice. Water poured out. Congregation and cattle drank.

12E o SENHOR disse a Moisés e a Arão: Não fareis esta comunidade entrar na terra que lhes dei, porque não acreditastes em mim, não santificando-me diante dos israelitas.

12God said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you didn't trust me, didn't treat me with holy reverence in front of the People of Israel, you two aren't going to lead this company into the land that I am giving them."

13Estas são as águas de Meribá, pois ali os israelitas confrontaram o SENHOR, que neles se mostrou santo.

13These were the Waters of Meribah (Bickering) where the People of Israel bickered with God, and he revealed himself as holy.

14De Cades, Moisés enviou mensageiros ao rei de Edom, dizendo-lhe: Assim diz teu irmão Israel: Tu sabes de toda a luta que temos enfrentado;

14Moses sent emissaries from Kadesh to the king of Edom with this message: "A message from your brother Israel: You are familiar with all the trouble we've run into.

15como nossos pais desceram ao Egito, onde habitamos muito tempo; e como os egípcios nos maltrataram, a nós e a nossos pais.
MSG
15Our ancestors went down to Egypt and lived there a long time. The Egyptians viciously abused both us and our ancestors.
AS21
16E, quando clamamos ao SENHOR, ele ouviu a nossa voz e mandou um anjo que nos tirou do Egito. Agora estamos em Cades, cidade da fronteira das tuas terras.

16But when we cried out for help to God, he heard our cry. He sent an angel and got us out of Egypt. And now here we are at Kadesh, a town at the border of your land.

17Deixa-nos passar pela tua terra. Não passaremos pelos campos, nem pelas vinhas, nem beberemos a água dos poços. Iremos pela estrada real, não nos desviando nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, até que tenhamos atravessado as tuas terras.

17"Will you give us permission to cut across your land? We won't trespass through your fields or orchards and we won't drink out of your wells; we'll keep to the main road, the King's Road, straying neither right nor left until we've crossed your border."

18Mas Edom lhe respondeu: Não passarás por minhas terras; do contrário, sairei com a espada contra ti.

18The king of Edom answered, "Not on your life. If you so much as set a foot on my land, I'll kill you."
AS21
19Mas os israelitas insistiram: Subiremos pela estrada real; e, se eu e o meu gado bebermos da tua água, pagarei por ela. É apenas isso; deixa-me somente passar a pé.
MSG
19The People of Israel said, "Look, we'll stay on the main road. If we or our animals drink any water, we'll pay you for it. We're harmless—just a company of footsore travelers."

20Mas Edom respondeu: Não passarás. E saiu contra eles com muita gente bem armada.
MSG
20He answered again: "No. You may not come through." And Edom came out and blocked the way with a crowd of people brandishing weapons.
AS21
21Assim, Edom não permitiu que Israel passasse por suas terras. Por isso, Israel se desviou dele.
MSG
21Edom refused to let them cross through his land. So Israel had to detour around him.
AS21
22Depois de partir de Cades, toda a comunidade dos israelitas chegou ao monte Hor.
MSG
22The People of Israel, the entire company, set out from Kadesh and traveled to Mount Hor.
AS21
23E o SENHOR falou a Moisés e a Arão no monte Hor, na fronteira da terra de Edom:

23God said to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor at the border of Edom,
AS21
24Arão será recolhido a seu povo. Ele não entrará na terra que dei aos israelitas, pois fostes rebeldes contra a minha palavra nas águas de Meribá.
MSG
24"It's time for Aaron to be gathered into the company of his ancestors. He will not enter the land I am giving to the People of Israel because you both rebelled against my orders at the Waters of Meribah.

25Toma Arão e seu filho Eleazar e faze-os subir ao monte Hor.
MSG
25So take Aaron and his son Eleazar and lead them up Mount Hor.
AS21
26Depois, tira as vestes de Arão e coloca-as em seu filho Eleazar, porque Arão será recolhido e ali morrerá.
MSG
26Remove Aaron's clothes from him and put them on his son Eleazar. Aaron will be gathered there; Aaron will die."
AS21
27E Moisés fez conforme o SENHOR lhe havia ordenado. Eles subiram ao monte Hor diante dos olhos de toda a comunidade.
MSG
27Moses obeyed God's command. They climbed Mount Hor as the whole congregation watched.
AS21
28Moisés despiu Arão de suas vestes e colocou-as em seu filho Eleazar; e Arão morreu no alto do monte. Depois disso, Moisés e Eleazar desceram.
MSG
28Moses took off Aaron's clothes and put them on his son Eleazar. Aaron died on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29Quando toda a comunidade viu que Arão estava morto, toda a casa de Israel chorou por ele durante trinta dias.

29The whole congregation, getting the news that Aaron had died, went into thirty days of mourning for him.
