1Os homens de Rúben e de Gade possuíam muito gado. Quando viram a terra de Jazer e de Gileade e perceberam que a região era adequada para o gado,

1The families of Reuben and Gad had huge herds of livestock. They saw that the country of Jazer and Gilead was just the place for grazing livestock.

2dirigiram-se a Moisés, ao sacerdote Eleazar e aos líderes da comunidade e lhes falaram:

2And so they came, the families of Gad and of Reuben, and spoke to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the congregation, saying,

3Atarote, Dibom, Jazer, Ninra, Hesbom, Eleale, Sebã, Nebo e Beom,

3"Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon

4a terra que o SENHOR conquistou à frente da comunidade de Israel é terra para gado, e os teus servos têm gado.
MSG
4—the country that God laid low before the community of Israel—is a country just right for livestock, and we have livestock."

5E acrescentaram: Se encontramos favor aos teus olhos, que esta terra seja dada como propriedade aos teus servos, e não nos faças atravessar o Jordão.

5They continued, "If you think we've done a good job so far, give us this country for our inheritance. Don't make us go across the Jordan."

6Moisés respondeu aos homens de Gade e de Rúben: Ficareis sentados aqui enquanto vossos irmãos vão à guerra?

6Moses answered the families of Gad and Reuben: "Do you mean that you are going to leave the fighting that's ahead to your brothers while you settle down here?

7Por que desanimais o coração dos israelitas, para que não entrem na terra que o SENHOR lhes deu?

7Why would you even think of letting the People of Israel down, demoralizing them just as they're about to move into the land God gave them?

8Assim fizeram vossos pais, quando os enviei de Cades-Barneia para ver a terra.
MSG
8That's exactly what your ancestors did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to survey the country.

9Quando eles subiram até o vale de Escol e viram a terra, desanimaram o coração dos israelitas, para que não entrassem na terra que o SENHOR lhes tinha dado.

9They went as far as the Valley of Eshcol, took one look and quit. They completely demoralized the People of Israel from entering the land God had given them.

10And God got angry—oh, did he get angry! He swore:

11Certamente, os homens que saíram do Egito, de vinte anos para cima, não verão a terra que prometi com juramento a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó! Porque não perseveraram em seguir-me;

11'They'll never get to see it; none of those who came up out of Egypt who are twenty years and older will ever get to see the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They weren't interested in following me—their hearts weren't in it.

12None, except for Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua son of Nun; they followed me—their hearts were in it.'

13Assim, a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra Israel, e ele os fez andar errantes pelo deserto durante quarenta anos, até desaparecer toda aquela geração que havia feito o mal aos olhos do SENHOR.

13"God's anger smoked against Israel. He made them wander in the wilderness for forty years, until that entire generation that acted out evil in his sight had died out.

14E agora vós, uma geração de pecadores, vos levantastes em lugar de vossos pais para fazer aumentar ainda mais o furor da ira do SENHOR contra Israel.

14"And now here you are, just one more mob of sinners stepping up to replace your ancestors, throwing fuel on the already blazing anger of God against Israel.

15Se deixardes de segui-lo, ele também tornará a deixá-los no deserto; assim destruireis todo este povo.

15If you won't follow him, he'll do it again. He'll dump them in the desert and the disaster will be all your fault."

16Então eles se aproximaram dele e disseram: Construiremos aqui currais para o nosso gado, e cidades para os nossos filhos;

16They came close to him and said, "All we want to do is build corrals for our livestock and towns for our families.

17nós, porém, nos armaremos, e iremos depressa à frente dos israelitas, até os levarmos ao seu lugar; e os nossos filhos ficarão nas cidades fortificadas, por causa dos habitantes da terra.

17Then we'll take up arms and take the front lines, leading the People of Israel to their place. We'll be able to leave our families behind, secure in fortified towns, safe from those who live in the land.

18Não voltaremos para nossas casas até que cada israelita esteja de posse da sua herança.
MSG
18But we won't go back home until every Israelite is in full possession of his inheritance.
AS21
19Porque não herdaremos com eles do outro lado do Jordão, nem mais adiante, visto que já possuímos a nossa herança deste lado do Jordão, ao oriente.

19We won't expect any inheritance west of the Jordan; we are claiming all our inheritance east of the Jordan."

20Então Moisés lhes respondeu: Se fizerdes isso, se vos armardes para a guerra diante do SENHOR,

20Moses said, "If you do what you say, take up arms before God for battle
AS21
21e cada um de vós atravessar armado o Jordão diante do SENHOR, até que ele tenha expulsado os seus inimigos de diante dele,

21and together go across the Jordan ready, before God, to fight until God has cleaned his enemies out of the land,
AS21
22e a terra esteja subjugada diante do SENHOR, então, sim, voltareis e estareis sem culpa diante do SENHOR e de Israel; e esta terra será vossa propriedade diante do SENHOR.

22then when the land is secure you will have fulfilled your duty to God and Israel. Then this land will be yours to keep before God.

23Mas, se não fizerdes isso, estareis pecando contra o SENHOR; e estai certos de que o vosso pecado vos atingirá.

23"But if you don't do what you say, you will be sinning against God; you can be sure that your sin will track you down.
AS21
24Edificai cidades para vossos filhos e currais para vossas ovelhas; e cumpri o que dissestes.
MSG
24So, go ahead. Build towns for your families and corrals for you livestock. Do what you said you'd do."

25Então os homens de Gade e de Rúben disseram a Moisés: Teus servos farão como meu senhor ordena.
MSG
25The families of Gad and Reuben told Moses: "We will do as our master commands.
AS21
26Nossos filhos, nossas mulheres, nossos rebanhos e todo o nosso gado ficarão nas cidades de Gileade;
MSG
26Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will stay behind here in the towns of Gilead.
AS21
27mas os teus servos passarão, todos armados para a guerra, para guerrear diante do SENHOR, como diz o meu senhor.
MSG
27But we, every one of us fully armed, will cross the river to fight for God, just as our master has said."

28Então Moisés deu ordem a respeito deles ao sacerdote Eleazar, e a Josué, filho de Num, e aos líderes das casas paternas nas tribos dos israelitas;
MSG
28So Moses issued orders for them to Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the ancestral tribes of the People of Israel.

29e disse-lhes: Se os homens de Gade e de Rúben atravessarem convosco o Jordão, todos armados para a guerra diante do SENHOR, e a terra for subjugada diante de vós, então lhes dareis como propriedade a terra de Gileade.

29Moses said, "If the families of Gad and Reuben cross the Jordan River with you and before God, all armed and ready to fight, then after the land is secure, you may give them the land of Gilead as their inheritance.

30Porém, se não passarem armados convosco, terão propriedade entre vós na terra de Canaã.
MSG
30But if they don't cross over with you, they'll have to settle up with you in Canaan."

31Os homens de Gade e de Rúben responderam: Faremos assim como o SENHOR disse a teus servos.

31The families of Gad and Reuben responded: "We will do what God has said.

32Passaremos armados diante do SENHOR para a terra de Canaã e teremos a posse de nossa herança deste lado do Jordão.
MSG
32We will cross the Jordan before God, ready and willing to fight. But the land we inherit will be here, to the east of the Jordan."

33Assim, Moisés deu aos homens de Gade e de Rúben, e à meia-tribo de Manassés, filho de José, o reino de Siom, rei dos amorreus, e o reino de Ogue, rei de Basã: a terra com suas cidades e os respectivos territórios ao redor.

33Moses gave the families of Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan—the land, its towns, and all the territories connected with them—the works.

36Bete-Ninra e Bete-Harã, cidades fortificadas; e construíram também currais de ovelhas.

36Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran as fortified cities; they also built corrals for their animals.

37E os homens de Rúben reconstruíram Hesbom, Eleale e Quiriataim;

37The Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,

38e Nebo e Baal-Meom (mudando seus nomes), e Sibma. E deram outros nomes às cidades que reconstruíram.

38also Nebo and Baal Meon and Sibmah. They renamed the cities that they rebuilt.

39E os descendentes de Maquir, filho de Manassés, foram a Gileade e a tomaram, expulsando os amorreus que estavam lá.

39The family of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it, and drove out the Amorites who lived there.

40Moisés deu a terra de Gileade a Maquir, filho de Manassés, que habitou ali.
MSG
40Moses then gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh. They moved in and settled there.

41E Jair, filho de Manassés, conquistou os povoados da região e os chamou de Havote-Jair.
MSG
41Jair, another son of Manasseh, captured some villages and named them Havvoth Jair (Jair's Tent-Camps).
AS21
42Nobá também conquistou Quenate com seus povoados e a chamou Nobá, segundo seu nome.

42Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding camps. He renamed it after himself, Nobah.
