1Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation that hath no shame;

2before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of Jehovah come upon you, before the day of Jehovah's anger come upon you.

2e se volte a Deus antes de que seja destruída e arrastada como a folha ao entardecer. Retorne antes de que a fúria do SENHOR destrua você, antes de que o dia da fúria do SENHOR chegue até você.

3Seek ye Jehovah, all ye meek of the earth, that have kept his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.

3Escutem todas as pessoas humildes que obedecem a Deus. Procurem pelo SENHOR e peçam ajuda a ele. Procurem a justiça e a humildade. Assim talvez poderão se salvar no dia em que o SENHOR mostrar a sua fúria.

4For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

4“Pois Gaza será abandonada e Ascalom será destruída. Os moradores de Asdode serão expulsos ao meio-dia e Ecrom será expulsa.

5Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines; I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.

5Nações que vivem perto do mar, povo de Creta, o SENHOR tem uma mensagem contra vocês!” O SENHOR diz: “Canaã, terra dos filisteus, farei desaparecer todos os seus moradores e você ficará vazia.

6And the sea - coast shall be pastures, with cottages for shepherds and folds for flocks.

6As cidades perto do mar virarão campos abandonados com uns poucos pastores e rebanhos.

7And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed their flocks thereupon; in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for Jehovah their God will visit them, and bring back their captivity.

7Depois, essa terra pertencerá aos sobreviventes de Judá. As pessoas de Judá levarão os seus rebanhos a esses campos e, durante a parte da tarde, descansarão nas casas de Ascalom”. Sofonias diz: “O SENHOR, seu Deus, prestará auxílio a elas e lhes devolverá o que tiver sido tirado delas”.

8I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.

8O SENHOR diz: “Eu ouvi os de Moabe e Amom insultando o meu povo. Ouvi as suas zombarias e insultos. Escutei como ficavam alegres por terem tirado o território de Judá.

9Therefore as I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall make a prey of them, and the remnant of my nation shall inherit them.

9Por isso, com a mesma certeza de eu ser o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, Deus de Israel, juro que Moabe e os amonitas serão destruídos por completo, da mesma forma que eu destruí Sodoma e Gomorra. Sua terra será como um campo cheio de espinhos, coberto com sal para que vire ruína. Os sobreviventes do meu povo ficarão com a sua terra”.

10This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Jehovah of hosts.

10Sofonias diz: “Essas pessoas foram arrogantes, insultaram e maltrataram o povo do SENHOR Todo-Poderoso. Mas elas serão castigadas por tudo isso.

11Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the nations.

11O SENHOR Todo-Poderoso fará com que elas fiquem com muito medo, porque destruirá os seus deuses. Então cada um dos moradores da costa se inclinará onde estiver para adorar a Deus”.

12Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.

12O SENHOR diz: “Também vocês, etíopes, serão mortos com a minha espada”.

13And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like the wilderness.

13Sofonias diz: “O Senhor estenderá sua mão em direção ao norte e destruirá Assíria. Ele destruirá Nínive e a converterá num deserto.

14And herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the pelican and the porcupine shall lodge in the capitals thereof; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar-work.

14Então todos os animais selvagens entrarão nessa cidade. As corujas e os corvos passarão a noite entre suas ruínas. As vozes que entrarão pelas janelas serão as dos corvos. Essas aves de cor negra serão as que acordarão as pessoas.

15This is the joyous city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none besides me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

15Isso será o que restará dessa alegre cidade, a cidade que se sentia tão segura, a que se achava a mais importante. Nínive virará um lugar deserto. Será o lugar de descanso dos animais selvagens. Toda pessoa que passar por ali ficará surpresa ao ver aquela cidade, fará gestos com as mãos e assobiará”.
