2Conviene que yo publique las señales y prodigios que ’Elaha ‘Il•laya ha hecho conmigo.

2It is my privilege to report to you the gracious miracles that the High God has done for me.

3"His miracles are staggering,his wonders are surprising.His kingdom lasts and lasts,his sovereign rule goes on forever.

4Yo Nabucodonosor estaba tranquilo en mi casa y floreciente en mi palacio.

4"I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home taking it easy in my palace, without a care in the world.

5But as I was stretched out on my bed I had a dream that scared me—a nightmare that shook me.

6Por esto mandé que vinieran ante mí todos los sabios de Babilonia, para que me mostraran la interpretación del sueño.

6I sent for all the wise men of Babylon so that they could interpret the dream for me.

7Vinieron, pues, magos, astrólogos, caldeos y adivinos, y referí el sueño delante de ellos, pero no me pudieron mostrar su interpretación,

7When they were all assembled—magicians, enchanters, fortunetellers, witches—I told them the dream. None could tell me what it meant.

8hasta que se presentó ante mí Daniel, cuyo nombre es Beltsasar, como el nombre de mi dios, y en quien mora el espíritu del Dios santo. Y referí mi sueño delante de él, diciendo:

8"And then Daniel came in. His Babylonian name is Belteshazzar, named after my god, a man full of the divine Holy Spirit. I told him my dream.

9Beltsasar, príncipe de los magos, ya que he entendido que el espíritu del Dios santo está en ti, y que ningún misterio se te esconde, he aquí las visiones del sueño que he tenido; declárame ahora su interpretación.

9" 'Belteshazzar,' I said, 'chief of the magicians, I know that you are a man full of the divine Holy Spirit and that there is no mystery that you can't solve. Listen to this dream that I had and interpret it for me.

11As I watched, the tree grew huge and strong. Its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the four corners of the earth.

12Su follaje era hermoso y su fruto abundante, y había en él alimento para todos. Debajo de él hallaban abrigo las bestias del campo, y en sus ramas hacían morada las aves de los cielos, y de él se alimentaba toda carne.

12Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant—enough food for everyone! Wild animals found shelter under it, birds nested in its branches, everything living was fed and sheltered by it.

13Yo miraba en las visiones de mi cabeza mientras estaba en mi lecho, cuando he aquí un guardián santo descendía de los cielos,

13" 'And this also is what I saw as I was stretched out on my bed. I saw a holy watchman descend from heaven,

14y clamando a gran voz, dijo así: ¡Cortad el árbol y quitadle sus ramas, sacudid su follaje y derramad su fruto, y váyanse las bestias que están debajo de él, y las aves de sus ramas!

14and call out:Chop down the tree, lop off its branches,strip its leaves and scatter its fruit.Chase the animals from beneath itand shoo the birds from its branches.

15Pero dejad el tronco con sus raíces en la tierra, ligado° con ligaduras de hierro y bronce entre la hierba del campo, y con el rocío de los cielos sea bañado, y con las bestias comparta la hierba de la tierra.

15But leave the stump and roots in the ground,belted with a strap of iron and bronze in the grassy meadow.Let him be soaked in heaven's dewand take his meals with the animals that graze.

16Sea cambiada su mente de hombre,° y désele instinto de bestia, y pasen sobre él siete tiempos.

16Let him lose his mindand get an animal's mind in exchange,And let this go onfor seven seasons.

17La sentencia es por decreto de los guardianes, y la decisión por la palabra de los Santos, para que los vivientes reconozcan que Il•laya domina sobre el reino de los hombres, que lo da a quien le place y pone sobre él al más humilde de los hombres.

17The angels announce this decree,the holy watchmen bring this sentence,So that everyone living will knowthat the High God rules human kingdoms.He arranges kingdom affairs however he wishes,and makes leaders out of losers.

18Yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, vi este sueño. Tú, pues, Beltsasar, dirás su interpretación, porque ninguno de los sabios de mi reino han podido darme su interpretación, pero tú sí puedes, porque en ti mora el espíritu de los dioses santos.

18" 'This is what I, King Nebuchadnezzar, dreamed. It's your turn, Belteshazzar—interpret it for me. None of the wise men of Babylon could make heads or tails of it, but I'm sure you can do it. You're full of the divine Holy Spirit.' "

19Pero Daniel (cuyo nombre es Beltsasar), quedó atónito casi una hora, turbado por sus pensamientos. Entonces el rey habló y dijo: Oh Beltsasar, no te turben ni el sueño ni su interpretación. Respondió Beltsasar, y dijo: Señor mío, sea este sueño para tus enemigos, y su interpretación para los que te aborrecen.

19At first Daniel, who had been renamed Belteshazzar in Babylon, was upset. The thoughts that came swarming into his mind terrified him."Belteshazzar," the king said, "stay calm. Don't let the dream and its interpretation scare you.""My master," said Belteshazzar, "I wish this dream were about your enemies and its interpretation for your foes.

20El árbol que has visto, que crecía y se hacía fuerte, y cuya copa llegaba a los cielos, y se extendía a todos los confines de la tierra,

20"The tree you saw that grew so large and sturdy with its top touching the sky, visible from the four corners of the world;

21cuyo follaje era hermoso y su fruto abundante, en que había alimento para todos, debajo del cual moraban las bestias del campo, y en cuyas ramas anidaban las aves de los cielos,

21the tree with the luxuriant foliage and abundant fruit, enough for everyone; the tree under which animals took cover and in which birds built nests

22eres tú mismo, oh rey, que creciste y te hiciste fuerte, pues tu grandeza creció hasta llegar hasta los cielos, y tu dominio hasta los confines de la tierra.

22—you, O king, are that tree."You have grown great and strong. Your royal majesty reaches sky-high, and your sovereign rule stretches to the four corners of the world.

23Y en cuanto a lo que vio el rey, un guardián santo que descendía de los cielos y decía: Cortad el árbol y destruidlo, dejad en la tierra el tronco con sus raíces, ligado con ligaduras de hierro y bronce entre la hierba del campo y con el rocío de los cielos sea bañado, y con las bestias del campo sea su porción, hasta que pasen siete tiempos sobre él,

23"But the part about the holy angel descending from heaven and proclaiming, 'Chop down the tree, destroy it, but leave stump and roots in the ground belted with a strap of iron and bronze in the grassy meadow; let him be soaked with heaven's dew and take his meals with the grazing animals for seven seasons'

24ésta es la interpretación, oh rey, y la sentencia de Il•laya, que ha venido sobre mi señor el rey:

24—this, O king, also refers to you. It means that the High God has sentenced my master the king:

25Te echarán de entre los hombres, y con las bestias del campo será tu morada, y con hierba del campo te apacentarán como a los bueyes, y con el rocío de los cielos serás bañado; y pasarán siete tiempos sobre ti, hasta que reconozcas que ’Elyón tiene dominio en el reino de los hombres, y que lo da a quien Él quiere.

25You will be driven away from human company and live with the wild animals. You will graze on grass like an ox. You will be soaked in heaven's dew. This will go on for seven seasons, and you will learn that the High God rules over human kingdoms and that he arranges all kingdom affairs.

26Y en cuanto a la orden de dejar el tronco del árbol con sus raíces en la tierra, significa que tu reino te quedará firme, después que hayas reconocido que los cielos son los que gobiernan.

26"The part about the tree stump and roots being left means that your kingdom will still be there for you after you learn that it is heaven that runs things.

27Por tanto, oh rey, acepta mi consejo: redime tus pecados con justicia, y borra tus iniquidades mostrando misericordias para con los oprimidos, por si tal vez pueda haber una prolongación de tu tranquilidad.

27"So, king, take my advice: Make a clean break with your sins and start living for others. Quit your wicked life and look after the needs of the down-and-out. Then you will continue to have a good life."

29Al cabo de doce meses, paseando en el palacio real de Babilonia,

29Just twelve months later, he was walking on the balcony of the royal palace in Babylon

30el rey habló diciendo: ¿No es ésta la gran Babilonia que yo edifiqué para morada real con la grandeza de mi poder, para gloria de mi majestad?

30and boasted, "Look at this, Babylon the great! And I built it all by myself, a royal palace adequate to display my honor and glory!"

31Aún estaban estas palabras en la boca del rey, cuando una voz cayó de los cielos: Oh rey Nabucodonosor, a ti se te habla. El reino te es quitado.

31The words were no sooner out of his mouth than a voice out of heaven spoke, "This is the verdict on you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your kingdom is taken from you.

32Serás apartado de entre los hombres, y tu habitación será con las bestias del campo. Te apacentarán como a los bueyes, y siete tiempos pasarán sobre ti, hasta que reconozcas que Il•laya tiene el dominio en el reino de los hombres, y lo da a quien Él quiere.

32You will be driven out of human company and live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like an ox. The sentence is for seven seasons, enough time to learn that the High God rules human kingdoms and puts whomever he wishes in charge."

33Y en la misma hora se cumplió la palabra sobre Nabucodonosor, y fue apartado de entre los hombres, y comía hierba como los bueyes, y su cuerpo se humedecía con el rocío de los cielos, hasta que su pelo creció como plumas de águila, y sus uñas como las de las aves.

33It happened at once. Nebuchadnezzar was driven out of human company, ate grass like an ox, and was soaked in heaven's dew. His hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a hawk.

34Pero al fin del tiempo, yo Nabucodonosor alcé mis ojos a los cielos, y mi razón me fue devuelta. Entonces bendije a ’Elyón, y alabé y glorifiqué al que vive para siempre, cuyo dominio es dominio sempiterno, y su reino por todas las edades.

34"At the end of the seven years, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked to heaven. I was given my mind back and I blessed the High God, thanking and glorifying God, who lives forever."His sovereign rule lasts and lasts,his kingdom never declines and falls.

35Life on this earth doesn't add up to much,but God's heavenly army keeps everything going.No one can interrupt his work,no one can call his rule into question.

36En aquel mismo tiempo me fue devuelta mi razón y la majestad de mi reino, y mi dignidad y mi grandeza volvieron a mí, y mis consejeros y mis grandes me buscaron, y fui restablecido en mi reino, y me fue añadida una preeminente grandeza.

36"At the same time that I was given back my mind, I was also given back my majesty and splendor, making my kingdom shine. All the leaders and important people came looking for me. I was reestablished as king in my kingdom and became greater than ever.

37Ahora yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo y engrandezco y glorifico al Rey de los cielos, porque todas sus obras son verdaderas y justos sus caminos, y Él puede abatir a aquellos que andan con soberbia.

37And that's why I'm singing—I, Nebuchadnezzar—singing and praising the King of Heaven:"Everything he does is right,and he does it the right way.He knows how to turn a proud personinto a humble man or woman."
