1Os efraimitas se reuniram e atravessaram o Jordão em direção a Safon. Disseram a Jefté: “Por que foste combater os amonitas sem nos chamar para irmos contigo? Vamos queimar-te junto com tua casa”.

1The men of Ephraim mustered their troops, crossed to Zaphon, and said to Jephthah, "Why did you go out to fight the Ammonites without letting us go with you? We're going to burn your house down on you!"

2Jefté lhes respondeu: “Eu e o meu povo tivemos grandes conflitos com os amonitas. Eu vos pedi socorro, mas não me livrastes de suas mãos.

2Jephthah said, "I and my people had our hands full negotiating with the Ammonites. And I did call to you for help but you ignored me.

3Percebendo que não me salvaríeis, arrisquei minha vida: ataquei os amonitas e o SENHOR os entregou a meu poder. Por que subistes hoje para combater contra mim? ”

3When I saw that you weren't coming, I took my life in my hands and confronted the Ammonites myself. And God gave them to me! So why did you show up here today? Are you spoiling for a fight with me?"

4Então Jefté reuniu todos os homens de Galaad para lutar contra Efraim. Os homens de Galaad derrotaram os de Efraim, porque disseram: “Vós os galaaditas sois uns fugitivos de Efraim”. ( Galaad fica no meio de Efraim e de Manassés. )
