2prima che si esegua il decreto e quel giorno passi come la pula; prima che vi piombi addosso l' ardente ira del SIGNORE, prima che vi sorprenda il giorno dell' ira del SIGNORE!

2Before you are driven away,like chaff that disappears;Before there comes upon youthe blazing anger of the Lord;Before there comes upon youthe day of the Lord's anger.

3Cercate il SIGNORE, voi tutti umili della terra, che mettete in pratica i suoi precetti! Cercate la giustizia, cercate l' umiltà! Forse sarete messi al sicuro nel giorno dell' ira del SIGNORE.

3Seek the Lord,all you humble of the land,who have observed his law;Seek justice,seek humility;Perhaps you will be shelteredon the day of the Lord's anger.

4Perché Gaza sarà abbandonata e Ascalon ridotta a una desolazione; Asdod sarà cacciata in pieno mezzogiorno ed Ecron sarà sradicata.

4For Gaza shall be forsaken,and Ashkelon shall be a waste,Ashdod they shall drive out at midday,and Ekron shall be uprooted.

5Guai agli abitanti della regione costiera, alla nazione dei Cheretei! La parola del SIGNORE è rivolta contro di te, o Canaan, paese dei Filistei! «Io ti distruggerò al punto che non avrai più abitanti».

5Ah! You who dwell by the seacoast,the nation of Cherethites, the word of the Lord is against you!O Canaan, land of the Philistines,I will leave you to perish without an inhabitant!

6La regione costiera non sarà altro che pascoli, rifugi per pastori e recinti per greggi.

6You shall become fields for shepherds,and folds for flocks.

7Essa sarà un territorio per il resto della casa di Giuda; là porteranno le bestie al pascolo e la sera si coricheranno nelle case di Ascalon, perché il SIGNORE, loro Dio, li visiterà e li farà tornare dall' esilio.

7The seacoast shall belongto the remnant of the house of Judah;by the sea they shall pasture.In the houses of Ashkelonthey shall lie down in the evening.For the Lord their God will take care of them,and bring about their restoration.

8«Ho udito gli insulti di Moab e gli oltraggi dei figli di Ammon; hanno insultato il mio popolo e si sono ingranditi invadendo il suo territorio.

8I have heard the taunts uttered by Moab,and the insults of the Ammonites, When they taunted my peopleand made boasts against their territory.

9Perciò, com' è vero che io vivo», dice il SIGNORE degli eserciti, Dio d' Israele, «Moab diventerà come Sodoma e Ammon come Gomorra: una selva di ortiche, una salina, un deserto per sempre. Il resto del mio popolo li saccheggerà, il residuo della mia nazione li possederà».

9Therefore, as I live—oracle of the Lord of hosts—the God of Israel,Moab shall become like Sodom,the Ammonites like Gomorrah:A field of weeds,a salt pit,a waste forever.The remnant of my people shall plunder them,the survivors of my nation dispossess them.

10Questo accadrà per il loro orgoglio, perché hanno insultato e schernito il popolo del SIGNORE degli eserciti.

10This will be the recompense for their pride,because they taunted and boasted againstthe people of the Lord of hosts.

11Il SIGNORE sarà terribile verso di loro, perché annienterà tutti gli dèi della terra; tutte le nazioni lo adoreranno, da tutte le loro isole.

11The Lord shall inspire them with terrorwhen he makes all the gods of earth waste away;Then the distant shores of the nations,each from its own place,shall bow down to him.

12«Anche voi, Etiopi, sarete uccisi dalla mia spada».

12You too, O Cushites, shall be slain by the sword of the Lord.

13Egli stenderà la mano contro il settentrione e distruggerà l' Assiria, e ridurrà Ninive in una desolazione, in un luogo arido come il deserto.

13He will stretch out his hand against the north,to destroy Assyria;He will make Nineveh a waste,dry as the desert.

14Nel suo interno giaceranno greggi e animali d' ogni specie; anche il pellicano e il riccio abiteranno fra i suoi capitelli; si udranno canti di uccelli dalle finestre; la devastazione sarà sulle soglie, perché sarà spogliata dei suoi rivestimenti di cedro.

14In her midst flocks shall lie down,all the wild life of the hollows;The screech owl and the desert owlshall roost in her columns;The owl shall hoot from the window,the raven croak from the doorway.

15Tale sarà la città festante, che se ne sta sicura e dice in cuor suo: «Io, e nessun altro all' infuori di me!» Come mai è diventata un deserto, un covo per le bestie? Chiunque le passerà vicino fischierà e agiterà la mano.

15Is this the exultant city that dwelt secure,That told itself,"I and there is no one else"?How it has become a waste,a lair for wild animals!Those who pass by ithiss, and shake their fists!
