1Corá, filho de Isar, neto de Coate, bisneto de Levi, reuniu Datã e Abirão, filhos de Eliabe, e Om, filho de Pelete, todos da tribo de Rúben, encheram-se de arrogância,

1Getting on his high horse one day, Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, along with a few Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—

2e insurgiram-se contra Moisés, juntamente com duzentos e cinquenta israelitas, príncipes da congregação, líderes respeitados e que haviam sido nomeados membros do concílio.

2rebelled against Moses. He had with him 250 leaders of the congregation of Israel, prominent men with positions in the Council.

3Ajuntaram-se, pois, contra Moisés e Arão, exclamando-lhes: “Basta! Toda a comunidade e todos os seus membros são consagrados, e o SENHOR está no meio deles. Por que, então, vos exaltais acima da assembleia de Yahweh?”

3They came as a group and confronted Moses and Aaron, saying, "You've overstepped yourself. This entire community is holy and God is in their midst. So why do you act like you're running the whole show?"

4Moisés, ouvindo isso, ajoelhou-se, encostando o rosto rente ao chão.

4On hearing this, Moses threw himself facedown on the ground.

5Depois ergueu-se e replicou a Corá e a toda a sua comunidade: “Amanhã cedo Yahweh fará conhecer quem é dele e qual é o homem consagrado que permitirá aproximar-se dele. Aquele que Ele fizer aproximar-se dele, esse é aquele que Ele escolheu!

5Then he addressed Korah and his gang: "In the morning God will make clear who is on his side, who is holy. God will take his stand with the one he chooses.

6Portanto, fazei isto: tomai os incensários de Corá e de toda a sua congregação,
MSG
6"Now, Korah, here's what I want you, you and your gang, to do: Tomorrow, take censers.
KJA
7ponde neles fogo e, amanhã, deitai sobre o fogo o incenso, perante o SENHOR. Aquele que Yahweh escolher, esse é o homem que lhe é consagrado. E agora, filhos de Levi, basta!”
MSG
7In the presence of God, put fire in them and then incense. Then we'll see who is holy, see whom God chooses. Sons of Levi, you've overstepped yourselves!"

8E acrescentou Moisés a Corá: “Ouvi, também, ó levitas!

8Moses continued with Korah, "Listen well now, sons of Levi.
KJA
9Acaso é muito pouco para vós que o Deus de Israel vos haja separado da congregação de Israel, trazendo-vos para perto dele, a fim de fazerdes o serviço do Tabernáculo do Eterno, colocando-vos diante desta comunidade para ministrardes em seu favor?

9Isn't it enough for you that the God of Israel has selected you out of the congregation of Israel to bring you near him to serve in the ministries of The Dwelling of God, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?

10Ele te chamou para perto dele, tu e contigo todos os teus irmãos levitas, e agora ambicionais também o sacerdócio?

10He has brought you and all your brother Levites into his inner circle, and now you're grasping for the priesthood too.
KJA
11Vós conspirastes contra Deus, tu e a tua assembleia: quem é Arão, para que murmureis contra ele?”

11It's God you've ganged up against, not us. What do you have against Aaron that you're bad-mouthing him?"

12A seguir Moisés mandou chamar Datã e Abirão, filhos de Eliabe. Mas eles retrucaram: “Não iremos!
MSG
12Moses then ordered Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, to appear, but they said, "We're not coming.
KJA
13Porventura, não te basta nos ter tirado de uma terra onde manam leite e mel para nos fazer morrer neste deserto? E ainda queres fazer-te príncipe e chefe sobre todos nós?
MSG
13Isn't it enough that you yanked us out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? And now you keep trying to boss us around!
KJA
14Além de tudo, tu não nos conduziste a uma terra onde manam leite e mel, tampouco nos deu uma herança de campos e vinhas! Pensas que podes cegar os olhos de toda esta população? Ora, de modo algum iremos!”
MSG
14Face it, you haven't produced: You haven't brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, you haven't given us the promised inheritance of fields and vineyards. You'd have to poke our eyes out to keep us from seeing what's going on. Forget it, we're not coming."

15Então Moisés ficou extremamente irado e rogou ao SENHOR: “Não aceites a oblação, a oferta dessas pessoas. Jamais fiz mal a qualquer um deles, nem mesmo tirei deles um jumentinho sequer!”

15Moses' temper blazed white-hot. He said to God, "Don't accept their Grain-Offering. I haven't taken so much as a single donkey from them; I haven't hurt a single hair of their heads."

16E Moisés falou a Corá: “Tu e toda a tua congregação vinde amanhã, a fim de vos colocardes diante de Yahweh, tu, e eles todos. Arão também estará lá.

16Moses said to Korah, "Bring your people before God tomorrow. Appear there with them and Aaron.
KJA
17Cada homem tomará seu incensário, nele depositará incenso e o apresentará diante de Yahweh. Serão duzentos e cinquenta incensários ao todo. Tu e Arão, igualmente, apresentareis cada um o seu incensário!”

17Have each man bring his censer filled with incense and present it to God—all 250 censers. And you and Aaron do the same, bring your censers."

18Assim, cada um deles pegou seu incensário, acendeu o incenso, e se postou com Moisés e com Arão à entrada da Tenda do Encontro.
MSG
18So they all did it. They brought their censers filled with fire and incense and stood at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. Moses and Aaron did the same.

19Corá decidiu reunir todos os seus seguidores à entrada da Tenda do Encontro, incitando-os contra Moisés e Arão; quando, de repente, a glória de Yahweh revelou-se diante de toda a comunidade.
MSG
19It was Korah and his gang against Moses and Aaron at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. The entire community could see the Glory of God.

20E o SENHOR preveniu Moisés e Arão:

20God said to Moses and Aaron,

21“Apartai-vos deste povo, pois vou exterminá-lo agora mesmo!”
MSG
21"Separate yourselves from this congregation so that I can finish them off and be done with them."
KJA
22Então Moisés e Arão prostraram-se com a face rente à terra e clamaram: “Ó Deus, Deus que a todos concede a vida, ficarás tu irado contra toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel quando um só homem pecou?”

22They threw themselves on their faces and said, "O God, God of everything living, when one man sins are you going to take it out on the whole community?"

23Ao que o SENHOR ordenou a Moisés:

23God spoke to Moses:

24“Fala a este povo e comunica-lhe: Afastai-vos das tendas de Corá, Datã e Abirão!”
MSG
24"Speak to the community. Tell them, Back off from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram."
KJA
25Imediatamente Moisés levantou-se e dirigiu-se para onde estavam Datã e Abirão, e os anciãos, as autoridades de Israel, o seguiram.
MSG
25Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram. The leaders of Israel followed him.
KJA
26E Moisés advertiu o povo: “Suplico-vos, separai-vos das tendas desses homens ímpios e não toqueis em nada daquilo que lhes pertence, para que não sejais também partícipes de todos os pecados que eles cometeram!”
MSG
26He then spoke to the community: "Back off from the tents of these bad men; don't touch a thing that belongs to them lest you be carried off on the flood of their sins."

27Então o povo se afastou das imediações das tendas de Corá, Datã e Abirão. Nesse momento, Datã e Abirão haviam saído e estavam em pé, à entrada de suas tendas, junto com suas mulheres, seus filhos e suas crianças pequenas.

27So they all backed away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram by now had come out and were standing at the entrance to their tents with their wives, children, and babies.

28Foi quando Moisés exclamou: “Nisto conhecereis que foi o próprio Yahweh que me enviou para realizar todos esses feitos e que não os fiz por mim mesmo:

28Moses continued to address the community: "This is how you'll know that it was God who sent me to do all these things and that it wasn't anything I cooked up on my own.

29se estas pessoas morrerem de morte natural, atingidas pela sentença comum a todos os seres humanos, então não foi o SENHOR que me enviou.
MSG
29If these men die a natural death like all the rest of us, you'll know that it wasn't God who sent me.
KJA
30Entretanto, se o SENHOR fizer acontecer algo extraordinário, inusitado; se a terra abrir sua boca e os engolir, toda essa gente ímpia juntamente com seus pertences, e se descerem vivos ao Sheol, sabereis com certeza que essas pessoas desprezaram a Yahweh!”

30But if God does something unprecedented—if the ground opens up and swallows the lot of them and they are pitched alive into Sheol—then you'll know that these men have been insolent with God."

31E aconteceu que, assim que Moisés acabou de pronunciar todas essas palavras, o chão se abriu bem debaixo dos pés deles,

31The words were hardly out of his mouth when the Earth split open.

32a terra como que abriu sua imensa mandíbula e os tragou vivos; eles, suas famílias e mais todos os seguidores de Corá com todos os seus bens.

32Earth opened its mouth and in one gulp swallowed them down, the men and their families, all the human beings connected with Korah, along with everything they owned.

33Desceram vivos à sepultura, juntamente com tudo o que possuíam; em seguida a terra fechou-se sobre eles, e pereceram, desaparecendo do meio da grande assembleia.

33And that was the end of them, pitched alive into Sheol. The Earth closed up over them and that was the last the community heard of them.

34Diante do pavor dos seus gritos, todos os demais filhos de Israel que se encontravam ao redor deles, fugiram desesperados, exclamando: “Misericórdia! Que a terra não nos engula também!”

34At the sound of their cries everyone around ran for dear life, shouting, "We're about to be swallowed up alive!"

35No mesmo instante o SENHOR mandou fogo e consumiu os duzentos e cinquenta homens que ofereciam incenso.

35Then God sent lightning. The fire cremated the 250 men who were offering the incense.

36O SENHOR falou a Moisés e ordenou:

36God spoke to Moses:

37“Dize a Eleazar, filho do sacerdote Arão, que recolha os incensários do meio dos restos fumegantes e espalhe as brasas, pois os incensários são santos.
MSG
37"Tell Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, Gather up the censers from the smoldering cinders and scatter the coals a distance away for these censers have become holy.
KJA
38Visto que foram trazidos diante da presença do SENHOR e estão consagrados, que o metal deles seja transformado em lâminas para recobrir o altar. Assim, servirão de sinal para os filhos de Israel!”
MSG
38Take the censers of the men who have sinned and are now dead and hammer them into thin sheets for covering the Altar. They have been offered to God and are holy to God. Let them serve as a sign to Israel, evidence of what happened this day."

39Eleazar, o sacerdote, juntou os incensários de bronze que haviam sido apresentados pelos que foram consumidos pelo fogo. Os incensários foram batidos e serviram de revestimento do altar,

39So Eleazar gathered all the bronze censers that belonged to those who had been burned up and had them hammered flat and used to overlay the Altar,

40exatamente como Yahweh tinha dito por intermédio de Moisés. Isso foi realizado como memorial para todos os filhos de Israel, a fim de que ninguém que não fosse descendente de Arão queimasse incenso diante do SENHOR, para não incorrer na punição que Corá e seus seguidores sofreram.

40just as God had instructed him by Moses. This was to serve as a sign to Israel that only descendants of Aaron were allowed to burn incense before God; anyone else trying it would end up like Korah and his gang.

41Contudo, no dia seguinte, todo o povo de Israel começou a reclamar contra Moisés e Arão, murmurando: “Fizestes perecer o povo do SENHOR!”

41Grumbling broke out the next day in the community of Israel, grumbling against Moses and Aaron: "You have killed God's people!"

42Quando, porém, o povo se ajuntou novamente contra Moisés e Arão, eis que eles se voltaram para a Tenda do Encontro; repentinamente a nuvem a cobriu e a glória do SENHOR surgiu.

42But it so happened that when the community got together against Moses and Aaron, they looked over at the Tent of Meeting and there was the Cloud—the Glory of God for all to see.

43Então Moisés e Arão se dirigiram para a frente da Tenda do Encontro,

43Moses and Aaron stood at the front of the Tent of Meeting.

44e o SENHOR avisou a Moisés:

44God spoke to Moses:

45“Ide! Saí do meio dessa congregação e, em um só momento, os aniquilarei a todos!” Contudo, eles imediatamente se atiraram sobre seus rostos em terra.
MSG
45"Back away from this congregation so that I can do away with them this very minute."They threw themselves facedown on the ground.
KJA
46Em seguida, Moisés pediu a Arão: “Toma o incensário, põe nele fogo do altar e em cima o incenso, e vai depressa à congregação, a fim de realizar o ritual de propiciação pelos pecados deste povo, porquanto partiu grande ira da presença do SENHOR e a mortandade já começou entre o povo!”

46Moses said to Aaron, "Take your censer and fill it with incense, along with fire from the Altar. Get to the congregation as fast as you can: make atonement for them. Anger is pouring out from God—the plague has started!"

47Arão procedeu exatamente como Moisés lhe pedira e correu para o meio da assembleia. A epidemia, de fato, já havia iniciado seu trabalho entre o povo. Contudo, Arão ofereceu o incenso e realizou o sacrifício de expiação pelos pecados do povo.

47Aaron grabbed the censer, as directed by Moses, and ran into the midst of the congregation. The plague had already begun. He put burning incense into the censer and atoned for the people.

48Arão colocou-se entre os mortos e os vivos, e a praga cessou!
MSG
48He stood there between the living and the dead and stopped the plague.
KJA
49Foram catorze mil e setecentas pessoas que morreram atingidas por aquela praga, sem contar os que haviam morrido por causa da revolta de Corá.

49Fourteen thousand seven hundred people died from the plague, not counting those who died in the affair of Korah.
KJA
50Quando acabou a epidemia, Arão retornou para a entrada da Tenda do Encontro, onde Moisés o aguardava.
MSG
50Aaron then went back to join Moses at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. The plague was stopped.
