1Eu, Nabucodonosor, vivia tranqüilo em minha casa, feliz no meu palácio.

2It is my privilege to report to you the gracious miracles that the High God has done for me.

3"His miracles are staggering,his wonders are surprising.His kingdom lasts and lasts,his sovereign rule goes on forever.

4"I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home taking it easy in my palace, without a care in the world.

4Vieram os magos, os adivinhos, os astrólogos e os feiticeiros. Contei-lhes o sonho, mas eles não foram capazes de interpretá-lo.

5But as I was stretched out on my bed I had a dream that scared me—a nightmare that shook me.

6I sent for all the wise men of Babylon so that they could interpret the dream for me.

7When they were all assembled—magicians, enchanters, fortunetellers, witches—I told them the dream. None could tell me what it meant.

8"And then Daniel came in. His Babylonian name is Belteshazzar, named after my god, a man full of the divine Holy Spirit. I told him my dream.

8A tal árvore cresceu e ficou forte, chegando o seu topo até o céu, e sua copa se alargou até o extremo da terra.

9" 'Belteshazzar,' I said, 'chief of the magicians, I know that you are a man full of the divine Holy Spirit and that there is no mystery that you can't solve. Listen to this dream that I had and interpret it for me.

9Folhagem bonita e frutos com fartura, nela havia alimento para todos! Debaixo dela tinham sombra os animais silvestres e em seus galhos se aninhavam as aves do céu! Dela se alimentava todo ser vivo.

10" 'This is what I saw as I was stretched out on my bed. I saw a big towering tree at the center of the world.

10Ia eu observando as imagens que em minha cabeça se formavam, quando apareceu um vigia santo descido do céu.

11As I watched, the tree grew huge and strong. Its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the four corners of the earth.

11Em alta voz ele gritou: ‘Cortai a árvore! Cortai seus ramos! Arrancai as folhas! Derrubai os seus frutos! Fugi, feras, de sua sombra! Fugi, pássaros, de seus galhos!

12Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant—enough food for everyone! Wild animals found shelter under it, birds nested in its branches, everything living was fed and sheltered by it.

12Deixai no chão, porém, o tronco com as raízes numa corrente de ferro e de bronze, no meio da grama do pasto. Que ele seja orvalhado pelo sereno do céu, tenha o mesmo destino que os animais silvestres e a erva rasteira.

13" 'And this also is what I saw as I was stretched out on my bed. I saw a holy watchman descend from heaven,

13O coração humano lhe seja tirado e um coração de animal lhe seja dado. Sete eras por ele hão de passar.

14and call out:Chop down the tree, lop off its branches,strip its leaves and scatter its fruit.Chase the animals from beneath itand shoo the birds from its branches.

14Está resolvido no decreto dos vigias, o que decide é a palavra dos santos, para que todo ser vivente reconheça que é o Altíssimo quem manda nos impérios humanos e põe como rei a quem ele quer. Seja ele mais humilde dos homens, querendo, o Altíssimo o põe nas alturas’.

15But leave the stump and roots in the ground,belted with a strap of iron and bronze in the grassy meadow.Let him be soaked in heaven's dewand take his meals with the animals that graze.

15Foi esse o sonho que tive eu, o rei Nabucodonosor. Tu, agora, Baltasar, vais dar-me a interpretação deste sonho. Nenhum sábio do meu império foi capaz de dar-me a interpretação, mas tu podes, porque tens o espírito dos deuses santos”.

16Let him lose his mindand get an animal's mind in exchange,And let this go onfor seven seasons.

16Daniel, que se chamava também Baltasar, ficou uma hora apavorado, as idéias fervilhando. Disse-lhe o rei: “Baltasar, não deixes que este sonho ou o seu significado te apavorem. ” Baltasar respondeu: “Meu senhor, que o sonho valha para os teus inimigos, que o seu significado seja para os teus adversários!

17The angels announce this decree,the holy watchmen bring this sentence,So that everyone living will knowthat the High God rules human kingdoms.He arranges kingdom affairs however he wishes,and makes leaders out of losers.

17Tu, ó Rei, viste uma árvore muito grande e forte. Seu topo atingia o céu e a copa podia ser vista do mundo inteiro.

18" 'This is what I, King Nebuchadnezzar, dreamed. It's your turn, Belteshazzar—interpret it for me. None of the wise men of Babylon could make heads or tails of it, but I'm sure you can do it. You're full of the divine Holy Spirit.' "

18Sua folhagem era bonita e tinha frutos suficientes para alimentar todo o mundo. À sua sombra viviam os animais silvestres e nos ramos aninhavam-se as aves do céu.

19At first Daniel, who had been renamed Belteshazzar in Babylon, was upset. The thoughts that came swarming into his mind terrified him."Belteshazzar," the king said, "stay calm. Don't let the dream and its interpretation scare you.""My master," said Belteshazzar, "I wish this dream were about your enemies and its interpretation for your foes.

19Pois bem, essa árvore és tu, ó Rei, tão grandioso, tão magnífico! A tua grandeza, ó Rei, é tal que alcança até o céu, e teu poder vai até os confins do mundo.

20"The tree you saw that grew so large and sturdy with its top touching the sky, visible from the four corners of the world;

20Tu, ó Rei, viste também um vigia santo que descia do céu e dizia: ‘Derrubai a árvore, destruí-a! No chão, porém deixai só o tronco com as raízes, numa corrente de ferro e bronze, no meio da grama do pasto. Que ele seja orvalhada pelo sereno do céu e tenha o mesmo destino que os animais silvestres. Sete eras por ele hão de passar.

21the tree with the luxuriant foliage and abundant fruit, enough for everyone; the tree under which animals took cover and in which birds built nests

21Eis a explicação, ó Rei: Aqui estão os decretos do Altíssimo que dizem respeito a ti, ó Rei, meu senhor:

22—you, O king, are that tree."You have grown great and strong. Your royal majesty reaches sky-high, and your sovereign rule stretches to the four corners of the world.

22Tu, ó Rei, serás tirado da companhia dos homens e obrigado a morar com os animais silvestres. Capim, como aos bois, é o que lhe darão para comer. Tu, ó Rei, terás de viver no sereno e sete anos hão de passar até que o rei aprenda que é o Altíssimo quem manda nos impérios dos homens e dá o poder a quem ele quer.

23"But the part about the holy angel descending from heaven and proclaiming, 'Chop down the tree, destroy it, but leave stump and roots in the ground belted with a strap of iron and bronze in the grassy meadow; let him be soaked with heaven's dew and take his meals with the grazing animals for seven seasons'

23Mandaram deixar o tronco com as raízes. Significa que o teu império ficará de pé, desde que tu, ó Rei, reconheças que é o Céu quem manda.

24—this, O king, also refers to you. It means that the High God has sentenced my master the king:

24Neste sentido, ó Rei, te seja agradável o meu conselho: paga teus pecados praticando a compaixão e repara tuas faltas cuidando dos pobres. Talvez assim tua felicidade possa durar”.

25You will be driven away from human company and live with the wild animals. You will graze on grass like an ox. You will be soaked in heaven's dew. This will go on for seven seasons, and you will learn that the High God rules over human kingdoms and that he arranges all kingdom affairs.

26"The part about the tree stump and roots being left means that your kingdom will still be there for you after you learn that it is heaven that runs things.

27"So, king, take my advice: Make a clean break with your sins and start living for others. Quit your wicked life and look after the needs of the down-and-out. Then you will continue to have a good life."

29Just twelve months later, he was walking on the balcony of the royal palace in Babylon

29Serás tirado da companhia dos homens para morar com os animais silvestres. Deverão alimentar-te com capim como se fosses um boi; e sete anos deverão passar até que aprendas que é o Altíssimo quem manda nos impérios dos homens e dá o poder a quem ele quer”.

30and boasted, "Look at this, Babylon the great! And I built it all by myself, a royal palace adequate to display my honor and glory!"

30Na mesma hora essa palavra se cumpriu para Nabucodonosor. Ele foi retirado do meio das pessoas, passou a comer capim como boi e a ficar no sereno. Seu cabelo ficou comprido como penas de águia e as unhas cresceram como unhas de passarinho.

31The words were no sooner out of his mouth than a voice out of heaven spoke, "This is the verdict on you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your kingdom is taken from you.

31“Terminada aquela fase, eu, Nabucodonosor, levantei os olhos para o céu e a consciência me voltou. Passei, então, a bendizer o Altíssimo e a glorificar Aquele que vive eternamente. Seu poder é eterno, seu domínio atravessa as gerações!

32You will be driven out of human company and live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like an ox. The sentence is for seven seasons, enough time to learn that the High God rules human kingdoms and puts whomever he wishes in charge."

32Os habitantes do mundo diante dele nada valem, ele trata como quer os astros do céu e os habitantes do mundo. Ninguém há que resista à sua mão ou possa perguntar-lhe: ‘Que fizeste? ’

33It happened at once. Nebuchadnezzar was driven out of human company, ate grass like an ox, and was soaked in heaven's dew. His hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a hawk.

34"At the end of the seven years, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked to heaven. I was given my mind back and I blessed the High God, thanking and glorifying God, who lives forever."His sovereign rule lasts and lasts,his kingdom never declines and falls.

35Life on this earth doesn't add up to much,but God's heavenly army keeps everything going.No one can interrupt his work,no one can call his rule into question.
