1In the first year of the reign of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream. What he saw as he slept in his bed terrified him—a real nightmare. Then he wrote out his dream:

1No primeiro ano de Belsazar, rei de Babilônia, teve Daniel, na sua cama, um sonho e visões da sua cabeça. Então escreveu o sonho, e relatou a suma das coisas.

2"In my dream that night I saw the four winds of heaven whipping up a great storm on the sea.
ARA
2Falou Daniel, e disse: Eu estava olhando, numa visão noturna, e eis que os quatro ventos do céu agitavam o Mar Grande.

3Four huge animals, each different from the others, ascended out of the sea.
ARA
3E quatro grandes animais, diferentes uns dos outros, subiam do mar.

4"The first animal looked like a lion, but it had the wings of an eagle. While I watched, its wings were pulled off. It was then pulled erect so that it was standing on two feet like a man. Then a human heart was placed in it.

4O primeiro era como leão, e tinha asas de águia; enquanto eu olhava, foram-lhe arrancadas as asas, e foi levantado da terra, e posto em dois pés como um homem; e foi-lhe dado um coração de homem.

5"Then I saw a second animal that looked like a bear. It lurched from side to side, holding three ribs in its jaws. It was told, 'Attack! Devour! Fill your belly!'

5Continuei olhando, e eis aqui o segundo animal, semelhante a um urso, o qual se levantou de um lado, tendo na boca três costelas entre os seus dentes; e foi-lhe dito assim: Levanta-te, devora muita carne.

6"Next I saw another animal. This one looked like a panther. It had four birdlike wings on its back. This animal had four heads and was made to rule.

6Depois disto, continuei olhando, e eis aqui outro, semelhante a um leopardo, e tinha nas costas quatro asas de ave; tinha também este animal quatro cabeças; e foi-lhe dado domínio.

7"After that, a fourth animal appeared in my dream. This one was a grisly horror—hideous. It had huge iron teeth. It crunched and swallowed its victims. Anything left over, it trampled into the ground. It was different from the other animals—this one was a real monster. It had ten horns.

7Depois disto, eu continuava olhando, em visões noturnas, e eis aqui o quarto animal, terrível e espantoso, e muito forte, o qual tinha grandes dentes de ferro; ele devorava e fazia em pedaços, e pisava aos pés o que sobejava; era diferente de todos os animais que apareceram antes dele, e tinha dez chifres.

8"As I was staring at the horns and trying to figure out what they meant, another horn sprouted up, a little horn. Three of the original horns were pulled out to make room for it. There were human eyes in this little horn, and a big mouth speaking arrogantly.

8Eu considerava os chifres, e eis que entre eles subiu outro chifre, pequeno, diante do qual três dos primeiros chifres foram arrancados; e eis que neste chifre havia olhos, como os de homem, e uma boca que falava grandes coisas.

9"As I was watching all this,"Thrones were set in placeand The Old One sat down.His robes were white as snow,his hair was white like wool.His throne was flaming with fire,its wheels blazing.

9Eu continuei olhando, até que foram postos uns tronos, e um ancião de dias se assentou; o seu vestido era branco como a neve, e o cabelo da sua cabeça como lã puríssima; o seu trono era de chamas de fogo, e as rodas dele eram fogo ardente.

10A river of firepoured out of the throne.Thousands upon thousands served him,tens of thousands attended him.The courtroom was called to order,and the books were opened.

10Um rio de fogo manava e saía de diante dele; milhares de milhares o serviam, e miríades de miríades assistiam diante dele. Assentou-se para o juízo, e os livros foram abertos.

11"I kept watching. The little horn was speaking arrogantly. Then, as I watched, the monster was killed and its body cremated in a roaring fire.

11Então estive olhando, por causa da voz das grandes palavras que o chifre proferia; estive olhando até que o animal foi morto, e o seu corpo destruído; pois ele foi entregue para ser queimado pelo fogo.

12The other animals lived on for a limited time, but they didn't really do anything, had no power to rule.

12Quanto aos outros animais, foi-lhes tirado o domínio; todavia foi-lhes concedida prolongação de vida por um prazo e mais um tempo.

13My dream continued."I saw a human form, a son of man,arriving in a whirl of clouds.He came to The Old Oneand was presented to him.

13Eu estava olhando nas minhas visões noturnas, e eis que vinha com as nuvens do céu um como filho de homem; e dirigiu-se ao ancião de dias, e foi apresentado diante dele.

14He was given power to rule—all the glory of royalty.Everyone—race, color, and creed—had to serve him.His rule would be forever, never ending.His kingly rule would never be replaced.

14E foi-lhe dado domínio, e glória, e um reino, para que todos os povos, nações e línguas o servissem; o seu domínio é um domínio eterno, que não passará, e o seu reino tal, que não será destruído.

15"But as for me, Daniel, I was disturbed. All these dream-visions had me agitated.

15Quanto a mim, Daniel, o meu espírito foi abatido dentro do corpo, e as visões da minha cabeça me perturbavam.
MSG
16So I went up to one of those standing by and asked him the meaning of all this. And he told me, interpreting the dream for me:

16Cheguei-me a um dos que estavam perto, e perguntei-lhe a verdadeira significação de tudo isso. Ele me respondeu e me fez saber a interpretação das coisas.

17" 'These four huge animals,' he said, 'mean that four kingdoms will appear on earth.
ARA
17Estes grandes animais, que são quatro, são quatro reis, que se levantarão da terra.
MSG
18But eventually the holy people of the High God will be given the kingdom and have it ever after—yes, forever and ever.'
ARA
18Mas os santos do Altíssimo receberão o reino e o possuirão para todo o sempre, sim, para todo o sempre.
MSG
19"But I wanted to know more. I was curious about the fourth animal, the one so different from the others, the hideous monster with the iron teeth and the bronze claws, gulping down what it ripped to pieces and trampling the leftovers into the dirt.

19Então tive desejo de conhecer a verdade a respeito do quarto animal, que era diferente de todos os outros, sobremodo terrível, com dentes de ferro e unhas de bronze; o qual devorava, fazia em pedaços, e pisava aos pés o que sobrava;

20And I wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that sprouted up while three of the original horns were removed. This new horn had eyes and a big mouth and spoke arrogantly, dominating the other horns.

20e também a respeito dos dez chifres que ele tinha na cabeça, e do outro que subiu e diante do qual caíram três, isto é, daquele chifre que tinha olhos, e uma boca que falava grandes coisas, e parecia ser mais robusto do que os seus companheiros.

21I watched as this horn was making war on God's holy people and getting the best of them.
ARA
21Enquanto eu olhava, eis que o mesmo chifre fazia guerra contra os santos, e prevalecia contra eles,

22But then The Old One intervened and decided things in favor of the people of the High God. In the end, God's holy people took over the kingdom.
ARA
22até que veio o ancião de dias, e foi executado o juízo a favor dos santos do Altíssimo; e chegou o tempo em que os santos possuíram o reino.

23"The bystander continued, telling me this: 'The fourth animal is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from the first three kingdoms, a monster kingdom that will chew up everyone in sight and spit them out.

23Assim me disse ele: O quarto animal será um quarto reino na terra, o qual será diferente de todos os reinos; devorará toda a terra, e a pisará aos pés, e a fará em pedaços.
MSG
24The ten horns are ten kings, one after another, that will come from this kingdom. But then another king will arrive. He will be different from the earlier kings. He will begin by toppling three kings.

24Quanto aos dez chifres, daquele mesmo reino se levantarão dez reis; e depois deles se levantará outro, o quál será diferente dos primeiros, e abaterá a três reis.

25Then he will blaspheme the High God, persecute the followers of the High God, and try to get rid of sacred worship and moral practice. God's holy people will be persecuted by him for a time, two times, half a time.

25Proferirá palavras contra o Altíssimo, e consumirá os santos do Altíssimo; cuidará em mudar os tempos e a lei; os santos lhe serão entregues na mão por um tempo, e tempos, e metade de um tempo.

26" 'But when the court comes to order, the horn will be stripped of its power and totally destroyed.
ARA
26Mas o tribunal se assentará em juízo, e lhe tirará o domínio, para o destruir e para o desfazer até o fim.
MSG
27Then the royal rule and the authority and the glory of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the people of the High God. Their royal rule will last forever. All other rulers will serve and obey them.'

27O reino, e o domínio, e a grandeza dos reinos debaixo de todo o céu serão dados ao povo dos santos do Altíssimo. O seu reino será um reino eterno, e todos os domínios o servirão, e lhe obedecerão.

28"And there it ended. I, Daniel, was in shock. I was like a man who had seen a ghost. But I kept it all to myself.

28Aqui é o fim do assunto. Quanto a mim, Daniel, os meus pensamentos muito me perturbaram e o meu semblante se mudou; mas guardei estas coisas no coração.
