1In the first year of the reign of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream. What he saw as he slept in his bed terrified him—a real nightmare. Then he wrote out his dream:

1No primeiro ano do reinado de Baltazar na Babilônia, Daniel teve um sonho. Imediatamente escreveu as imagens que lhe povoaram a mente enquanto dormia. Assim começa:

2"In my dream that night I saw the four winds of heaven whipping up a great storm on the sea.

2Isto falou Daniel: “Durante a noite eu tive esta visão: os ventos dos quatro cantos do mundo reviravam o mar imenso.

3Four huge animals, each different from the others, ascended out of the sea.
CNBB
3Quatro feras enormes foram surgindo, então, do meio do mar, cada uma diferente da outra.

4"The first animal looked like a lion, but it had the wings of an eagle. While I watched, its wings were pulled off. It was then pulled erect so that it was standing on two feet like a man. Then a human heart was placed in it.

4A primeira parecia um leão, só que tinha asas de águia. Estava eu olhando, quando lhe arrancaram as asas e suas patas foram se erguendo do chão, ficando ela de pé como gente. E deram-lhe um coração humano.

5"Then I saw a second animal that looked like a bear. It lurched from side to side, holding three ribs in its jaws. It was told, 'Attack! Devour! Fill your belly!'

5Apareceu outra fera. Tinha a figura de um urso. Estava de pé sobre duas patas e tinha na boca entre os dentes três costelas. Disseram-lhe: “Avante, come bastante carne! ”

6"Next I saw another animal. This one looked like a panther. It had four birdlike wings on its back. This animal had four heads and was made to rule.

6Depois vi uma outra fera, parecida com um leopardo. Só que tinha nos lombos quatro asas de pássaro e tinha também quatro cabeças. Foi-lhe dada autoridade.

7"After that, a fourth animal appeared in my dream. This one was a grisly horror—hideous. It had huge iron teeth. It crunched and swallowed its victims. Anything left over, it trampled into the ground. It was different from the other animals—this one was a real monster. It had ten horns.

7Em seguida, em minhas visões noturnas, vi a quarta fera. Era medonha, terrível e muito forte. Tinha enormes dentes de ferro, comia e esmagava tudo e macetava com os pés o que sobrava. Era diferente das outras feras, porque tinha dez chifres.

8"As I was staring at the horns and trying to figure out what they meant, another horn sprouted up, a little horn. Three of the original horns were pulled out to make room for it. There were human eyes in this little horn, and a big mouth speaking arrogantly.

8Estava eu observando esses chifres, quando do meio deles surgiu um outro chifre pequeno. Por causa dele, três dos outros chifres foram arrancados. Nesse chifre havia olhos humanos e uma boca que dizia arrogâncias.

9"As I was watching all this,"Thrones were set in placeand The Old One sat down.His robes were white as snow,his hair was white like wool.His throne was flaming with fire,its wheels blazing.

9Eu continuava olhando: tronos foram instalados e um ancião se assentou, vestido de branco igual à neve, cabelos claros como a lã. Seu trono era uma labareda de fogo com rodas de fogo em brasa.

10A river of firepoured out of the throne.Thousands upon thousands served him,tens of thousands attended him.The courtroom was called to order,and the books were opened.

10Corria um rio de fogo, nascido diante dele. Havia milhões a seu serviço, inumerável multidão de pé diante dele. Os juízes se assentaram e os livros foram abertos.

11"I kept watching. The little horn was speaking arrogantly. Then, as I watched, the monster was killed and its body cremated in a roaring fire.

11Eu continuava olhando. No meio do vozerio e das arrogâncias que aquele chifre gritava, vi que aquela fera estava sendo morta, seu cadáver despedaçado e atirado ao fogo para queimar.

12The other animals lived on for a limited time, but they didn't really do anything, had no power to rule.

12Quanto às outras feras, seu poder foi retirado, mas foi-lhes concedido um prolongamento da vida até certo tempo e momento.

13My dream continued."I saw a human form, a son of man,arriving in a whirl of clouds.He came to The Old Oneand was presented to him.

13Em imagens noturnas tive esta visão: Entre as nuvens do céu vinha alguém semelhante a um filho do homem. Chegou até perto do ancião, foi levado à sua presença.

14He was given power to rule—all the glory of royalty.Everyone—race, color, and creed—had to serve him.His rule would be forever, never ending.His kingly rule would never be replaced.

14Foi-lhe dada a soberania, a glória e a realeza. Todos os povos, nações e línguas hão de servir-lhe. Seu poder é um poder eterno, que nunca lhe será tirado e sua realeza é tal, que jamais será destruída!

15"But as for me, Daniel, I was disturbed. All these dream-visions had me agitated.

15Eu, Daniel, senti-me com o espírito perturbado em meu interior. As visões de minha mente deixavam-me apavorado.

16So I went up to one of those standing by and asked him the meaning of all this. And he told me, interpreting the dream for me:

16Aproximei-me de um dos presentes para perguntar o que era mesmo tudo aquilo. E ele falou comigo, dando-me a explicação completa:

17" 'These four huge animals,' he said, 'mean that four kingdoms will appear on earth.

17‘As quatro feras enormes são quatro reis que surgirão na terra.
MSG
18But eventually the holy people of the High God will be given the kingdom and have it ever after—yes, forever and ever.'
CNBB
18Os que vão receber a realeza são os santos do Altíssimo. Quando tomarem posse do reino, será para sempre e pelos séculos dos séculos’.

19"But I wanted to know more. I was curious about the fourth animal, the one so different from the others, the hideous monster with the iron teeth and the bronze claws, gulping down what it ripped to pieces and trampling the leftovers into the dirt.

19Depois eu quis saber da quarta fera, que era diferente das outras, medonha, com enormes dentes de ferro e unhas de bronze, que comia, pisava e esmagava o resto com os pés.

20And I wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that sprouted up while three of the original horns were removed. This new horn had eyes and a big mouth and spoke arrogantly, dominating the other horns.

20Perguntei também sobre os dez chifres que havia em sua cabeça e daquele outro que foi aparecendo e fazendo cair os outros três que lhe estavam mais próximos e que tinha olhos e boca que proferia arrogâncias, e tinha uma envergadura maior que a das outras feras.

21I watched as this horn was making war on God's holy people and getting the best of them.

21Observando, vi que esse chifre fazia guerra contra os santos e os vencia,

22But then The Old One intervened and decided things in favor of the people of the High God. In the end, God's holy people took over the kingdom.

22até que veio o Ancião para fazer justiça aos santos do Altíssimo. Chegou a hora, e os santos tomaram posse do reino.

23"The bystander continued, telling me this: 'The fourth animal is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from the first three kingdoms, a monster kingdom that will chew up everyone in sight and spit them out.

23Ele explicou: “A quarta fera é um quarto reino que vai surgir na terra e que será diferente dos outros reinos. Vai devorar o mundo inteiro e, depois, vai pisar e esmagar.

24The ten horns are ten kings, one after another, that will come from this kingdom. But then another king will arrive. He will be different from the earlier kings. He will begin by toppling three kings.

24Os dez chifres são dez reis que hão de surgir neste reino e depois dele surgirá aquele outro, diferente dos dez primeiros, e que vai derrubar três reis.

25Then he will blaspheme the High God, persecute the followers of the High God, and try to get rid of sacred worship and moral practice. God's holy people will be persecuted by him for a time, two times, half a time.

25Ele proferirá arrogâncias contra o Altíssimo e perseguirá os seus santos. Vai pretender modificar o calendário e a própria lei de Deus. Em suas mãos os fiéis serão entregues por um período e mais dois períodos e mais a metade de um período.

26" 'But when the court comes to order, the horn will be stripped of its power and totally destroyed.
CNBB
26O tribunal, porém, vai se instalar e retirar o seu poder, ele será destruído e aniquilado até o fim.

27Then the royal rule and the authority and the glory of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the people of the High God. Their royal rule will last forever. All other rulers will serve and obey them.'
CNBB
27A soberania, o poder e a grandeza de todo o reino que debaixo do céu existe serão entregues ao povo santo do Altíssimo. O seu reino será um reino eterno, e toda autoridade há de venerá-lo e prestar-lhe obediência’”.

28"And there it ended. I, Daniel, was in shock. I was like a man who had seen a ghost. But I kept it all to myself.

28Aqui termina o assunto. Eu, Daniel, fiquei confuso em meus pensamentos, empalideci e guardei tudo na memória.
