1In the first year of the reign of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream. What he saw as he slept in his bed terrified him—a real nightmare. Then he wrote out his dream:

1Durante o primeiro ano em que Belsazar foi rei de Babilônia, eu, Daniel, tive um sonho e, enquanto estava na minha cama, tive visões na minha mente. Ao acordar, anotei o mais importante do sonho. A seguir irei falar a respeito do que eu escrevi.

2"In my dream that night I saw the four winds of heaven whipping up a great storm on the sea.

3Four huge animals, each different from the others, ascended out of the sea.

4"The first animal looked like a lion, but it had the wings of an eagle. While I watched, its wings were pulled off. It was then pulled erect so that it was standing on two feet like a man. Then a human heart was placed in it.

4O primeiro parecia um leão com asas de águia. Enquanto eu olhava, as suas asas foram tiradas e ele foi levantado para que ficasse sobre dois pés como um homem. E foi lhe dada uma mente de ser humano.

5"Then I saw a second animal that looked like a bear. It lurched from side to side, holding three ribs in its jaws. It was told, 'Attack! Devour! Fill your belly!'

5Logo vi outro animal. Este segundo animal parecia um urso e um dos seus lados estava levantado. Tinha três costelas entre seus dentes e uma voz lhe dizia: — Fique em pé e coma toda a carne que você desejar.

6"Next I saw another animal. This one looked like a panther. It had four birdlike wings on its back. This animal had four heads and was made to rule.

7"After that, a fourth animal appeared in my dream. This one was a grisly horror—hideous. It had huge iron teeth. It crunched and swallowed its victims. Anything left over, it trampled into the ground. It was different from the other animals—this one was a real monster. It had ten horns.

7Logo depois vi na minha visão o quarto animal. Era um animal terrível, espantoso e de uma força impressionante. Tinha dentes de ferro e devorava várias criaturas. Destruía os ossos delas e pisoteava o que sobrava. Era muito diferente dos outros três animais e tinha dez chifres.

8"As I was staring at the horns and trying to figure out what they meant, another horn sprouted up, a little horn. Three of the original horns were pulled out to make room for it. There were human eyes in this little horn, and a big mouth speaking arrogantly.

8Eu estava olhando os chifres quando surgiu outro entre os dez que já tinha e quebrou três deles. Este novo chifre tinha olhos de ser humano e uma boca que louvava seu grande poder.

9"As I was watching all this,"Thrones were set in placeand The Old One sat down.His robes were white as snow,his hair was white like wool.His throne was flaming with fire,its wheels blazing.

9Enquanto olhava, apareceram alguns tronos e o Ancião venerável se sentou no seu trono. Sua roupa era branca como a neve; seu cabelo era branco como a lã pura. Seu trono era de fogo, e as chamas eram as suas rodas.

10A river of firepoured out of the throne.Thousands upon thousands served him,tens of thousands attended him.The courtroom was called to order,and the books were opened.

11"I kept watching. The little horn was speaking arrogantly. Then, as I watched, the monster was killed and its body cremated in a roaring fire.

12The other animals lived on for a limited time, but they didn't really do anything, had no power to rule.

13My dream continued."I saw a human form, a son of man,arriving in a whirl of clouds.He came to The Old Oneand was presented to him.

13Eu continuava com estas visões durante a noite. De repente, vi que saía do meio das nuvens alguém parecido com um ser humano. Chegou perto do Ancião venerável e foi apresentado a ele.

14He was given power to rule—all the glory of royalty.Everyone—race, color, and creed—had to serve him.His rule would be forever, never ending.His kingly rule would never be replaced.

14Foi dado a ele poder, glória e autoridade para que todos os povos, nações e línguas o sirvam. Seu domínio não terá fim e seu reino nunca será destruído.

15"But as for me, Daniel, I was disturbed. All these dream-visions had me agitated.

16So I went up to one of those standing by and asked him the meaning of all this. And he told me, interpreting the dream for me:

16Então cheguei perto de um dos que serviam ao Ancião venerável e lhe pedi que me explicasse tudo isso. Ele me explicou:

17" 'These four huge animals,' he said, 'mean that four kingdoms will appear on earth.

17— Os quatro animais representam quatro reis que vão governar na terra.

18But eventually the holy people of the High God will be given the kingdom and have it ever after—yes, forever and ever.'

18Mas os santos de Deus receberão o reino e governarão para sempre.

19"But I wanted to know more. I was curious about the fourth animal, the one so different from the others, the hideous monster with the iron teeth and the bronze claws, gulping down what it ripped to pieces and trampling the leftovers into the dirt.

19Eu queria saber o que representava o quarto animal, que era muito diferente dos outros. Esse animal era terrível, assustador e de uma força impressionante. Tinha dentes de ferro e garras de bronze. Ele devorava e triturava tudo, e pisoteava com as patas o que sobrava.

20And I wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that sprouted up while three of the original horns were removed. This new horn had eyes and a big mouth and spoke arrogantly, dominating the other horns.

20Queria saber o significado dos dez chifres da cabeça, e do último que surgiu e quebrou três dos dez chifres que já tinha. Este novo chifre tinha olhos de homem e uma boca que louvava o seu grande poder; seu tamanho era maior do que os outros.

21I watched as this horn was making war on God's holy people and getting the best of them.

21Enquanto eu olhava, esse pequeno chifre começou a lutar contra os santos de Deus e os derrotava.

22But then The Old One intervened and decided things in favor of the people of the High God. In the end, God's holy people took over the kingdom.

22Até que apareceu o Ancião venerável e favoreceu os santos do Deus Altíssimo. Por isso os santos derrotaram o monstro e se apoderaram do reino.

23"The bystander continued, telling me this: 'The fourth animal is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from the first three kingdoms, a monster kingdom that will chew up everyone in sight and spit them out.

23Então, aquele que me estava explicando disse: — O quarto animal é o quarto reino, que é diferente dos outros reinos. Devorará toda a terra, pisará nela e a destruirá.

24The ten horns are ten kings, one after another, that will come from this kingdom. But then another king will arrive. He will be different from the earlier kings. He will begin by toppling three kings.

24Os dez chifres representam os dez reis desse reino. Depois deles virá outro rei que será muito diferente dos outros. Esse novo rei tirará do poder três reis.

25Then he will blaspheme the High God, persecute the followers of the High God, and try to get rid of sacred worship and moral practice. God's holy people will be persecuted by him for a time, two times, half a time.

25Ele falará contra o Deus Altíssimo e causará dano e sofrimento aos santos de Deus. Também tratará de mudar a lei e os costumes. Os santos de Deus estarão sob seu poder durante três anos e meio.

26" 'But when the court comes to order, the horn will be stripped of its power and totally destroyed.

26Mas depois se fará justiça. Todo poder será tirado dele e o seu reino será totalmente destruído.

27Then the royal rule and the authority and the glory of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the people of the High God. Their royal rule will last forever. All other rulers will serve and obey them.'

27Quando isso acontecer, todo poder e todos os reinos da terra estarão nas mãos dos santos de Deus. Eles governarão para sempre e o reino deles não terá fim. Todos os governadores e todas as pessoas os respeitarão e estarão ao seu serviço.

28"And there it ended. I, Daniel, was in shock. I was like a man who had seen a ghost. But I kept it all to myself.
