1Three days later Esther dressed in her royal robes and took up a position in the inner court of the palace in front of the king's throne room. The king was on his throne facing the entrance.

1Passaram-se três dias, Ester vestiu seus trajes de rainha e foi ao pátio interior do palácio do rei, que fica em frente ao salão do rei. Xerxes estava sentado em seu trono, na grande sala real, de frente para a entrada principal.

2When he noticed Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased to see her; the king extended the gold scepter in his hand. Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter.

2Quando viu a rainha Ester ali no pátio, teve misericórdia dela e estendeu-lhe o cetro de ouro que tinha na mão em sinal de atenção. Então Ester se aproximou e tocou a ponta do cetro.

3The king asked, "And what's your desire, Queen Esther? What do you want? Ask and it's yours—even if it's half my kingdom!"

3Então o rei lhe indagou: “Que é o que tens, rainha Ester? Dize-me, pois, o que desejas, e ainda que seja metade do meu reino, te darei!”

4"If it please the king," said Esther, "let the king come with Haman to a dinner I've prepared for him."

4Contudo Ester lhe respondeu: “Se for teu agrado, ó rei, venha hoje com Hamã ao banquete que eu lhe preparei!”

5"Get Haman at once," said the king, "so we can go to dinner with Esther."So the king and Haman joined Esther at the dinner she had arranged.

5Então o rei imediatamente exclamou: “Depressa, trazei Hamã para que atendamos ao pedido de Ester!” E assim, o rei e Hamã foram ao banquete que Ester havia planejado e mandado preparar.

6As they were drinking the wine, the king said, "Now, what is it you want? Half of my kingdom isn't too much to ask! Just ask."

6Enquanto saboreavam o bom vinho do palácio, o rei perguntou uma vez mais a Ester: “Mas, o que de fato queres que eu te faça? Dize-me e serás atendida. Qual é o desejo do teu coração? Até a metade do meu reino te será dada!”

7Esther answered, "Here's what I want.

7Diante dessa palavra do rei, Ester rogou: “Aqui está, pois, a minha petição e o meu desejo:

8If the king favors me and is pleased to do what I desire and ask, let the king and Haman come again tomorrow to the dinner that I will fix for them. Then I'll give a straight answer to the king's question."

8Se é da vontade do rei demonstrar sua bondade e generosidade para comigo, e se lhe agradar atender e conceder o meu desejo, que o rei e Hamã venham também amanhã ao banquete que vou preparar em vossa homenagem. Então, naquele momento, terei minha resposta pronta e a apresentarei ao rei.”

9Haman left the palace that day happy, beaming. And then he saw Mordecai sitting at the King's Gate ignoring him, oblivious to him. Haman was furious with Mordecai.

9Naquele dia Hamã saiu alegre e satisfeito. No entanto, ficou irado quando percebeu que Mardoqueu, que estava junto à porta do palácio real, não se levantou nem demonstrou qualquer reverência diante da sua presença.

10But he held himself in and went on home. He got his friends together with his wife Zeresh

12"On top of all that," Haman continued, "Queen Esther invited me to a private dinner she gave for the king, just the three of us. And she's invited me to another one tomorrow.

12E disse mais Hamã, com arrogância: “Além disso, sou o único no império que a própria rainha Ester convidou para acompanhar o rei ao banquete que ela preparou em homenagem a Xerxes. Ela me convidou para comparecer também amanhã na companhia do rei.

13But I can't enjoy any of it when I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the King's Gate."

14His wife Zeresh and all his friends said, "Build a gallows seventy-five feet high. First thing in the morning speak with the king; get him to order Mordecai hanged on it. Then happily go with the king to dinner."Haman liked that. He had the gallows built.

14Então Zeres, sua esposa, e todos os seus amigos lhe deram o seguinte conselho: “Ora, manda fazer uma forca, com mais de vinte metros de altura, e logo pela manhã peça ao rei que Mardoqueu seja sumariamente enforcado nela. Depois alegra-te e vai com o rei para o banquete. Hamã gostou de ouvir aquela sugestão e, imediatamente, mandou que se construísse a tal forca.
