1Job's three friends now fell silent. They were talked out, stymied because Job wouldn't budge an inch—wouldn't admit to an ounce of guilt.
AMP
1So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes .
MSG
2Then Elihu lost his temper. (Elihu was the son of Barakel the Buzite from the clan of Ram.) He blazed out in anger against Job for pitting his righteousness against God's.
AMP
2But Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became indignant. His indignation was kindled and burned and he became upset with Job because he justified himself rather than God .
MSG
3He was also angry with the three friends because they had neither come up with an answer nor proved Job wrong.
AMP
3Elihu's anger burned against Job's three friends because they had found no answer , and yet they had condemned Job and declared him to be in the wrong .
MSG
4Elihu had waited with Job while they spoke because they were all older than he.
AMP
4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because the others were years older than he.
MSG
5But when he saw that the three other men had exhausted their arguments, he exploded with pent-up anger.
AMP
5And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouths of these three men, he burned with anger.
MSG
6This is what Elihu, son of Barakel the Buzite, said:"I'm a young man,and you are all old and experienced. That's why I kept quietand held back from joining the discussion.
AMP
6Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite said, "I am young, and you are aged; For that reason I was anxious and dared not tell you what I think.
MSG
7I kept thinking, 'Experience will tell. The longer you live, the wiser you become.'
AMP
7"I thought age should speak, And a multitude of years should teach wisdom.
MSG
8But I see I was wrong—it's God's Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise humaninsight possible.
AMP
8"But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
MSG
9The experts have no corner on wisdom;getting old doesn't guarantee good sense.
AMP
9"Those abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may the elders understand justice.
MSG
10So I've decided to speak up. Listen well!I'm going to tell you exactly what I think.
AMP
10"Therefore I say, 'Listen to me; I also will give you my opinion and tell you plainly what I think.'
MSG
11"I hung on your words while you spoke, listened carefully to your arguments. While you searched for the right words,
AMP
11"You see, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasons, While you pondered and searched out what to say.
MSG
12I was all ears. And now what have you proved? Nothing.Nothing you say has even touched Job.
AMP
12"I even paid close attention to you , Indeed, not one of you convinced Job , Not one of you supplied answers to his words.
MSG
13And don't excuse yourselves by saying, 'We've done our best. Now it's up to God to talk sense into him.'
AMP
13"Beware if you say, 'We have found wisdom; God thrusts Job down , not man .'
MSG
14Job has yet to contend with me.And rest assured, I won't be using your arguments!
AMP
14"Now Job has not directed his words against me , Nor will I answer him with arguments like yours.
MSG
15"Do you three have nothing else to say?Of course you don't! You're total frauds!
AMP
15"They (Job's friends) are dismayed and embarrassed, they no longer answer; The words have moved away and failed them," .
MSG
16Why should I wait any longer, now that you're stopped dead in your tracks?
AMP
16"And shall I wait, because they say nothing, But stand still and say no more?
MSG
17I'm ready to speak my piece. That's right! It's my turn—and it's about time!
AMP
17"I too will give my share of answers; I too will express my opinion and share my knowledge.
MSG
18I've got a lot to say,and I'm bursting to say it.
AMP
18"For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.
MSG
19The pressure has built up, like lava beneath the earth.I'm a volcano ready to blow.
AMP
19"My belly is like unvented wine; Like new wineskins it is about to burst.
MSG
20I have to speak—I have no choice.I have to say what's on my heart,
AMP
20"I must speak so that I may get relief; I will open my lips and answer.
MSG
21And I'm going to say it straight—the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
AMP
21"I will not be partial to any man ; Nor flatter any man.
MSG
22I was never any good at bootlicking;my Maker would make short work of me if I started in now!
AMP
22"For I do not know how to flatter, , My Maker would soon take me away.
